Mind Pairing Record 10
Hueflox had retreated to the deep caverns. She and her
mate Gooruill had taken turns guarding the eggs but once they had shown
signs of hatching, Hueflox had ushered everyone out of the deep cavern. The
rain-variant drak was pretty chill but even she would keep to the traditions
around hatching. She very much wanted some alone time with her children
before sending them off into the world. Having been able to leave the deep
caverns she had come to know three of the four aspirants and Gooruill had
reported on her about the fourth. Which is how she was able to tell her
children about the people waiting to mind pair on the other side of the
door.
"Choosze wisssely, my children."
she told them, "Theze humanz will be withs you
for your life."
"The first to have come here isz a pirate.
He's ssmart and charming but will be a handful to keep up with. You'll
recognize him by hisss light red hair and hat. The szecond is a woman with
purple hair. Ssshe isss an archer and will not remain on Icarusz. Ssshe is
strong and open-minded and will treat you right. The thzird is a sssoldier
with a kind heart and a sssad paszt. He isss the one with the ssshort yellow
hair. The lassst, I've been told, isss a dark-haired man who likesz to guard
and travel. He isss asz good a talker asz the pirate but more rezsponsssible."
She'd taught her children what they needed to know, had told them about the
people waiting. Now all she could do was lead them out and hope they made
the right choice. Hueflox knocked on the heavy wooden doors and outside,
Gooruill stepped away from them and helped her and their knights to open up.
Proud but without airs, Hueflox stepped outside, followed by her four
children. They huddled in front of her in a messy row: a rain and day female
and a desert and earth male.
"Mallox!" the rain female
called out her name with the drakonian equivalent of a giggle and she sped
toward Frederico Scarlatti, the charming pirate.
"I" jussst love the pirate sztoriesss
Huemommy told uzs." the cheeky rain said and nudged her head
against Frederico's hands, hoping to get him toward the food faster.
The desert male straightened next and said his name: "Evoxll."
He then made his way toward Gar, the runic warrior and added: "I
want to sssupport you."
Third to step forward was the white-yellow day female. She gave a little
flourish before giving her name: "Kyullox."
She hurried toward Era, the female archer from WindChill, excited about
finding a knight and about the prospect of discovering not one but two - or
maybe even more - worlds.
"I want to sssee so many thingzs. Can you
ssshow me? Will you?"
Last to call out his name was the earth drakling: "Uivoxll."
He did not hurry since there really was no need. He'd known Dorian Walker
would be his. He was good at gambling, though he would later call it
'statistics' and was confident and stubborn.
"I will help you guard." he
told the vaulter human, "I'll watch your
back."
And with that the mind pairing ceremony was over and people headed over to
the waiting food tables and drink stands.
