Hatching 17
Rayant
Fiacha and Earth Quail
"My dearest honey poney.."
Quail said when he entered the room when the sun was rising. Fiacha, who
was a bit cranky from looking at the same spot of the cave for a very long
time already, woke up from her much needed sleep.
"What is it Quail?" She
asked harder than she had meant too.
"Everybody is angry with me these days. I’m
so useless!" Almost crying.
"Oh I’m sorry sweaty. It’s just.. I
haven’t seen daylight in a few days now.."
"Chimera too shouts at me…"
"It’s probably just hormones.."
"She doesn’t like me anymore!"
If Quail could, he would have been crying his eyes out about now.
"She still loves you…
She’s just having
a hard time, as do I. But what was it that you wanted to say to me?"
"Our babies are coming."
"I would have seen that myself."
Fiacha said in a motherly, soothing way. But then her rayant eyes saw that
the eggs were rocking softly.
"Oh they are
hatching." she whispered.
Because her bond and Quail’s were still sleeping, she called them by
waking up the whole isle with a thundering bugle that echoed from the
mountains..
When the sleepy bonds, too slow to Fiacha and Quail's liking, came with
their sleepy heads, the eggs were already showing some cracks. One even
showed the colour of the little dragoness inside. It was like the little
egg and it's treasure inside were burning brightly.
As soon as the little head popped out of the shell and the first little
cry of the flame dragon entered the world, everybody became silent. Quail
went to his little daughter, but stopped on the way when another dragon, a
yellow dragon from a place called Cy Dragonstake nuzzled the little flame.
"Hi!" It called out to her
new bond "My name is Feniks. Called after
the mysterious bird with flames and feathers and all that stuff."
A soft humming sound came from her throat.
"Well then Feniks. My name is Ranor. Lets
get you something to eat."
Together, yellow and fiery orange, left for the feeding tables at the edge
of the cave.
"What a good combination don’t you think
Honey?" Ivar, the bond of Fiacha said to his future wife.
Chimera, Quail’s bond, grumbled at Ivar. Making sure that he wouldn't
say a thing anymore during the rest of the hatching. He wondered what was
wrong. Sure she had her moments.. But could all this be caused by
hormones?
Back at the hatching ground, a faint rayant reflection filled the room
when the small male hatchling stretched his wings. With his head up high,
he walked straight to a young man. Oen, being the leader of a gang, grown
up on the streets.
"Are you worthy enough for me?"
The rayant asked the man in front of him called Oen.
"Maybe u cun’t live on da streets with
them p'itty wings."
"Perhaps.." He said and
bowed. "My name is Nightingale, Oen."
Oen too bowed for his equal.
With his arms crossed, Ilyas looked secretly to Yainja. He who had
recently been a master, was now just a sick puppy. He wondered how this
would all end. A dragon? He hoped that that would wake him from this
nightmare.
"Perhaps you
don’t want to wake up."
Looking around, startled, Ilyas turned towards a brown skinned dragon with
red streaks in it.
"Perhaps. But can you help me, Roodborstje?"
"Only if you
want to be saved."
"Then I think I won’t be saved after
all." Turning towards Yainja, he kissed her and then he
left with his new boned dragon, leaving behind a very stunned Yainja. Her
heart was still pounding from the wonderful kiss just a moment ago, so she
also didn’t see the dragon that was waiting patiently before her.
Touching her lips, her attention turned to the hatching again.
"Oh I’m sorry.." She said
when she saw the little black eyes of a white and black coloured dragon.
"That’s ok. In our line of business,
one has to be patient."
"They sure do." The female
thief smiled at her dragoness.
About halfway the hatching, Qauil looked with fatherly pride to their
small babies. He could not help but to feel bigger just by seeing what wonderful
offspring he and his mate had produced. He looked aside to Fiacha. She too
was watching with slightly wet eyes. Quail nuzzled Fiacha and slightly
purring, the next hatchling entered the world.
It was a cheerful dragon, with lots of colours like a rainbow. It skipped
around, or rather stumbled around her brothers and sisters. She finally
stopped at the feet of a large silver dragon. At first it seemed that the
dragon was looking over her. But then he playfully pushed a paw out and
she flung to his neck.
"Watch out that you don’t hurt yourself." He said with
a low voice to the dragoness.
"Oh but I am
strong and I’ll
never be defeated!"
She jumped towards him, but he stepped aside and she fell to the
ground. Quail showed his teeth and Fiacha made clear she didn’t like
this at all by shrieking.
The silver dragon bowed for both parents, and then helped his new mate
Gaai on her feet again.
"Bleep… I’m hungry.."
The rather round alien with black eyes said to the taller alien.
"You just have to wait a few more minutes
Blip." Bleep whispered back. "Look
another dragon is hatching".
It was a rain as the other dragon that they had first met when they came
here. Blip held his breath.
"Don’t forget to breath."
A soft male voice whispered in his head.
He gasped for breath and grinned at the male dragon.
"I won’t forget Sparrow."
"Now you have to go to the feeding ground. But don’t get into
trouble!" Bleep called after his brother Blip.
Dolmia looked around. Her fire lizard flew through the cave and circled
around one of the last two eggs. Dolmia walked slowly to it and then
knocked on the shell. It felt warm and it was hard.
"Hello? Anybody in there?"
Dolmia asked softly. Her fire lizard knocked with his little paw on the
shell too. As an answer to both knocks, the egg broke open revealing a
green winged black dragon.
"Yes I’m here." The little
dragoness whispered in her head. The little lizard chirped happily and
Dolmia’s step was even lighter then before when they left for the
feeding ground.
"The last egg…" Fiacha
whispered to Quail.
"I know honey.. We can always make
more."
Fiacha stroked her head softly against Quail’s. She was happy that she
had found such a wonderful dragon mate.
The last to receive his bond, was no man, nor alien. It was a brown
dragon. Waiting patiently for the egg to hatch, tapping his tail slowly. A
small brown head popped out of that one egg that held everyone's attention
and the brown dragoness purred towards the large brown dragon.
"Will I be just like you Ildroth?"
"That all depends on what you want Lijster."
Ildroth answered on her question.
"Oh.. Then I’ll be great! Just like
you." Stroking his side, they left, as the last pair, to
get some food.
"That was the last one Chimera. Will you
please tell me what’s wrong now?" Ivar
asked when his soon-to-be-wife still didn't look at him.
"Haven’t you noticed anything?"
Chimera took Ivar’s hand and laid it on her tummy. "Quail
and Fiacha aren’t the only ones that expanded their little family…"
