Parent Information
For this clutch the sands were occupied by 5 gem dragonesses. Two of
the dragonesses are mated, the other 3 donated their eggs. Those eggs were
fertilised with the genetic material of all 7 gem dragons currently residing on
Lantessama Isle, supplemented with regular dragon DNA.
Though not a native species, the small, serpentine dragons have
lived long enough on Lantessama Isle that they're known by most of it's
residents. They're only about 4 feet long, but they boast quite powerful magic. The
magic of these 7 Gem dragons combined has started to influence the Isle itself.
Lately, dragons born on the isle seem to be coloured differently from before.
Gem-tones and patterns seem to become more common each day.
With all that magic and the extra DNA in play, gem dragons hatched in this clutch might not have
the traditional Gem Dragon Colours, please also check out the new Lantessama
Colours as they might make an early appearance.

Hatching
Story
Spring sunlight warmed the sands that lay nestled in between the three
Lantessama mountains. The 5 Gem dragonesses had shared the sands amicably,
each surrounded by her own eggs while the two male Gem dragons fluttered
about, guarding the eggs from unwanted attention. Friendly visitors
however had been allowed and even encouraged to come closer to the eggs as
the dragonesses whispered among themselves about which candidates might be
liked by which growing dragon foetus. The finders had ventured out,
messages had been sent throughout the nexus and a varied group of
candidates had found their way to Lantessama to try out for the small,
winged snake dragons. There were humans of course, but also dragons, furry
humanoids and magical beings. Some had already bonded before and were accompanied
by their dragons while others were just starting out on the journey that
was dragon-rearing.
The sun had just reached it's zenith, it's warm light shining down
directly on the sands when the Gem dragons starting the telltale hum of
imminent hatchings. The sound was picked up by dragons all over the island
and not a soul was left to wonder about the event that was about to
happen. Candidates rushed to the sands and spectators drew closer, joining
the happy ambiance of the celebration. The first festival to occur in more
than a decade was certainly a good omen for the years to come.
Many of the eggs were cracking while other hatchlings seemed to be taking
their sweet time to start the process of hatching. As people watched with
bated breaths, one of the eggs shattered and the first of the clear
white-blue hatchlings emerged. The hatchling was strong though, determined
and quick to act as it rushed toward the armorsmith Aries.
"I'll grow up to help you, I'll do my
best." the hatchling said and wrapped itself around the
man's broad chest and shoulders, lettings it's wings dangle down on one
side of the smith's chest.
Spectators whispered and gasped. Not only wouldn't they know the
hatchling's colour until it was adult, they also wouldn't know it's name
or gender. But at least some of their personality would be revealed by the
way they acted when they bonded.
Before the consternation could get out of
hand, the male Gem dragons roared and strengthened by their sires' cries,
some of the eggs around Ada and Wain rocked harder, clashing into each
other and thus breaking the shells. Causing the hatchlings to spill out in
a tangle of tails and wings.
The last to spill out managed to come out on top, rolling down from the
tangle of it's siblings. It shook it's head, raised it's body and chirped musically, showing off it's sleek lines and powerful wings. This hatchling
might act a bit vain but it certainly looked strong and smart. The
hatchling kept chirping, waiting for the person it wanted to bond to get
the message. It was Iribel with her
flurry of firelizards who knew it's her dragonet, as she knew so many
more things that were hard to explain. The small winged snake purred and
scurried toward it's bond, crawling on her outstretched arm.
"You took your time." It
said, "You should act more on your
instincts."
"Oh, Lir." the woman sighed, thinking about how hard it is when
all your life you've been shunned for having a talent or curse,
"Let's just wait for Lilune to join us."
"We can't hide much from you."
the hatchling replied.
The bottom most hatchling managed to crawl out of the heap, leaving it's
siblings to struggle on. It seemed to be on the small side, but it was
very quick and agile, spinning itself in a spiral to get a look at all the
candidates before slowing in front of Aries.
Lashing it's tail at the other hatchling that clung to Aries' neck, it
secured a spot on the smith's arm where the hatchling settled, resting
it's head on his shoulder. Contented it purred and whispered:
"I'll be the gem to sharpen all your tools, Aries."
Three dragonets were still struggling, but suddenly one of them managed to
launch itself from the ground. The small serpentine dragon zipped through the
air in an impressive show of aerial acrobatics and seemed to enjoy all the
oohs and ahhs that sounded from the audience. After a short flourish that
could only be described as the flying equivalent of a bow, the hatchling
returned it's attention to the candidates and chose Reva
Felinus for itself. The wild-haired hacker/thief looked up as
the hatchling dropped right down on her head with little to no
consideration for it's bond.
"You look fun," the
hatchling said as it wrapped it's tail around her neck, keeping careful
balance on the girl's head, "and
comfy."
With only two of the slender dragonets left in the pile, they quickly
sorted themselves out and slid forward over the sands. They seemed to
chatter among themselves a bit, keeping the candidates in suspense over
what was happening. Finally the one that was slightly larger and sturdier
moved out first. Slowly and calmly the dragonet zigzagged it's way across
the sands toward the group of jewel thieves. Taking it's time to smell
each of them, it finally settled on Kolya
Krystallos, climbed up and settled around the man's
mid-section.
"You seem like just my kind of guy." the
dragonet said and yawned, eyes falling shut as it drifted off into sleep.
That left the smaller one on the sands. After it's sibling had impressed,
it followed it's own path. Eager to learn it looked at each of the
candidates, trying to gauge what knowledge they might possess and who of
them could teach it the most. In the end, it went to the group of
mosasaurs, and got close to the brow-coloured, opal-studded Uyata
who loved science and history.
"I'd like to join you to study. And I don't mind hot and dry
environments." the winged snake said and hopped on Uyata's back to
find a comfy place to watch the rest of the hatching from.
Spurned on by the growing tension, small talons and snouts started poking
through the egg shells, giving people a view of more crystal clear
dragonets trying to force their way out. A wing broke through, knocking
over a few of the other eggs, and as the hatchling tumbled out of it's
egg, it knocked over quite a few more eggs. The hatchling shook it's head
and looked around. It gave a happy shriek as it locked eyes with Lerya
and hovered close to the foxtail healer. The hatchling took great care as
it landed, making certain not to harm the girl or tear her clothing. Lazily it yawned and snuggled closer,
basking in the contact.
"I love you already, I'm certain I can help
with the healing."
Some of the disturbed eggs settled back into quivering,
but three hatching dragonets had gotten the push they needed to finally
break free from their shells. One pricked it's tail through the bottom,
launching itself into the air and crashing it's shell completely on
impact. The hatchling rolled in a straight line and only stopped when it
hit Kyrrha, the dependable nexus
backpacker. Looking up with intelligent eyes, the little winged
snake made a few showy gestures before finally saying the mysterious
words:
"Why, I was meant to come on your
path."
The second smashed it's head through the shell of it's egg and headbutted
the third that had already managed to get a wing out. Both crystal clear
hatchlings seemed to like each other instantly and they headed toward the
musical magicians that were standing on one end of the sands. Chittering,
the two seemed to talk among themselves and while the one headed toward Proteus
looked to be the more outgoing one, with a boisterous and loud
nature, the one headed toward Klebsiella
was certainly not a slouch either. It seemed to intuitively know
what the other dragonet wanted to do and let it shine. Gently it
slithered up Klebsiella's outstretched arm and listened as the other
dragonet said:
"Proteus, we'll change the world
together."
"Klebsiella, I'll help you support these two." the
other one added.
One of the next to poke through it's
shell, was a dainty little dragonet with delicate features
and a mysterious air to it. It rose a bit higher so people could
see it above all the rocking and tearing and finally locked eyes with Iribel.
Gently the gem dragonet swayed toward the waiting woman and smiled before
it spoke: "I've been dreaming of you."
The next egg to hatch did so with a bang, raining shards down on the
neighbouring eggs and hitting quite a few as it was launched out of the
confining space. With a
short and triumphant cry that announced it's arrival with the appropriate
regal air, the dragonet did a quick loop before it hurried toward it's
chosen bond. The pale-skinned, blonde jewel thief Primula
Felinus stood worrying on the side, wondering about what would
happen with her siblings on this alien world. As the dragonet got closer,
it started singing again, a sweet and happy sound that seemed to wash all
those thoughts away. Hovering in front of her, it stared deep into her
eyes and thought: "Life's too beautiful to
worry, they won't be alone anymore after this day either."
Three eggs had been knocked together by the singing hatchlings
triumphant exit and because of it their shells had weakened considerably.
One of them crumbled and the clear hatchling inside slithered between the
broken shards. Flapping it's large wings to dry them, the dragonet took to
the sky and landed next to Corkon, the
grumpy mosasaur who liked to collect blue things. Purely by chance he'd
met a likeminded human on Lantessama and had promised to keep in touch
with Finder Saranna to occasionally exchange items and get together to
talk about all things blue. Carefully and a bit shy, the
dragonet commented quietly:
"I promise I'm blue and not ruby red!"
Out popped a small and cute hatchling. Maybe it was good
luck that it's egg had been knocked over because this hatchling looked
like it could never have broken the shell by itself. Though now that it was
out. It wasted no time running around. No, it was on a mission and it knew
just who to go to. It flew in a direct line to Kolya
Krystallos, the teal-skinned cook slash martial artist with the
multi-coloured hair that attracted the dragonet at first sight.
"I love you." it just said
plainly and settled on his shoulders, it's head resting on his above his
blinded eye as if it was a promise to keep watch on that side.
The third and last egg from that group hatched a curious and outgoing
dragonet that squeaked excitedly as it flew towards the waiting
Lian Mini dragons. It swept down next to Sajiir
and clutched the small dragon's neck.
"I like to try out new things too. Let's go
explore!"
Nelaeryn, the
cynical elf that was touring the nexus with Kyrrha and Braegan had been
watching the hatching intently. His good observational skills had him
notice a small egg that had yet to show signs of hatching. At last it
quivered and then went back to being silent. It's dam, Gold Wain, also
sensed the perilous condition of the hatchling and keened, not knowing
what to do. Nelaeryn took charge and kneeled down next to the egg, tapping
the egg with the back of his knife until it broke. The hatchling inside
was tired and frail, but it's strong mental touch was
distinct and loving as it sent out his gratitude: "I'll
stand by your side."
Three eggs from two different clutches hatched in rapid succession
and the hatchlings looked at each other to determine which one would go
first. After a short mental discussion one of them moved toward the
candidates. It seemed to be wild and unrestrained as it
prowled toward Citrobacter, the quiet
and very restrained musical magician that enjoyed knitting and all things
yarn. As the dragonet neared the man of it's choice, it lunged and
playfully swatted at the piece of yarn that hung loose from it's bond's
pocket.
"I can't resist your yarn."
it purred.
The two remaining eggs that had both hatched from Veralite's clutch,
nodded to each other and each took off into an opposite direction. The
long, slender and elegant hatchling drifted slowly toward Braegan
and took the time to form it's words, making certain to be eloquent
and thoughtful as it said: "Together
we will make your nation prosper."
The other hatchling, a shorter, rounder snake with stubby wings and
a sunny disposition headed for Aranicola
and crooned as she picked it up and stroked it's head.
"Can you make me pretty?" it
asked
Attention veered back to Wain's clutch as one of her eggs
burst open with a loud pop. The dragonet that exited the remnants of it's egg
was dignified. Without looking back it floated across the sands, easily
avoiding obstacles, eggs and debris. Holding it's head up high and proud,
it told Limaidua, the winged diamond
mosasaurus: "I see that you have what it takes to be a true and just
leader. I'd like to help you."
Another of Wain's eggs was rocking heavily and as growing lines appeared on
it's surface and connected, a loud crack announced that the shell had finally had enough. The hatchling inside hopped out of the remains of it's prior
home and curiously looked about. It's eyes darted left and right as it tried to
take in everything at once. Eagerly it smelled the air, listened to the sounds
and took in the colours and the feeling of the sand. It instantly fell in love
with the world and wanted to see more. Which is why it would not come as a
surprise that it headed to Lapinus, the
white bunny space navigator who'd already travelled quite a bit.
"Let me join you on your travels, I'm certain
we'll get along. And I can probably help with the maintenance of your ship"
As Ada stretched her wings, she tipped over one of her eggs and it rolled away
from her, crashing into another egg from the nearby clutch of Gartass. The two
eggs split open and the hatchlings fell out. One of them, seemed a bit ill,
probably the hatchlings that had done the rolling. It cried pitifully and seemed
a bit too dizzy to move. Before she knew what she was doing and maybe pushed a
bit by her other bonds singing, Primula Felinus
walked onto the sands and headed for the hatchling, that getting a closer look,
seemed to sparkle in the light of the sun.
"It's good you came, I'm so lucky."
the hatchling sighed as it was picked up and carried away in the arms of it's
bond.
The other hatchling had not suffered as much in the collision and it was free to
move away from the broken shards. Slithering over the sands, wings folded back,
the dragonet reached the edge of the sands and looked at the candidates. It
seemed quite friendly and open as it winked at a few of the candidates. But it
was Yaima Kardunn that was the one it wanted
to bond with. And the hatchling had it's reasons, reasons it wouldn't share just
yet. Speaking it's mind would reveal too much. No Yaima'd have to wait just a
bit longer.
"You've got a cool tail, and these engines, can I eat them? and...."
the hatchling ranted. Apparently keeping quiet was something it didn't do
well.
Ine'Aqua'Eet, the guardian
snake from the Abstract Destiny felt oddly proud to see all these small
snakes hatch and bond. As a similar being he could relate to what they all
felt. Suddenly a cool, seductive and refreshing touch
reached his brain. And Ine'Aqua'Eet turned around to see a small winged
snake hovering at his side. The dragonet rumbled softly and told
him:
"I'll be proud to carry part of your name in
the future."
At the same time, Sodalis was locking
gazes with another hatchling that had managed to sneak up to him. This playful
and endearing little creature was looking for fun and hoped
it would find it with the musical magician that liked to be outdoors.
"I want to see the forests in your
world." it said and happily landed on the man's shoulder.
The hatching was well on it's way now and Kutoth,
the founder of the Refugium who had funded a trip for several of the
Refugium residents to journey to Lantessama for this event, had been
watching a single egg in Jade Gartass' clutch. It was maybe a bit smaller
than all the other eggs, but it felt more real to him, like it had a substance
to it that added an extra layer. He found himself drawn to that particular
egg and wondered if maybe it was true that some people just knew which egg
was theirs. He held his breath as cracks appeared in the egg, slowly the
fissures in the smooth surface extended, twisted and widened. And then
suddenly the egg was gone and in it's place sat a graceful dragonet
that gazed directly toward the founder. Kutoth felt like he was being scrutinised
and measured. But then from the distance, the dragonet spoke in his mind
as it approached him.
"We have lots of time to get to know each
other."
Two eggs in Ada's clutch rocked violently, knocking together,
causing one of them to roll away, hitting an egg in Veralite's clutch. The
hatchlings broke from their shells simultaneously and looked up in wonder
as they stared at each other. The two that had rolled into each other
seemed to be particularly fond of each other, and as they linked tails,
they flew toward Arsenophonus, the
bohemian musician with a flair for key changes.
"I'd love to sing with you."
the first, a fast-thinking, fast-acting and self-assured
dragonet sang to the magician
"I'd like to see your home."
the second, a quiet but intense dragonet said, "It
looks so interesting in your mind."
The remaining hatchling from Ada's clutch had it's eyes on
another hatchling as well, but that particular one had already bonded. And
to an amazing candidate. Which was why this little firecracker
hatchling felt only happiness as it swooped toward Nelaeryn
and his first bond.
"Do you have room for one more?" it
asked, "I'd like to join you on your
travels."
Until this point in time, none of the eggs around
Derastall
had hatched. The regal dragoness was however not worried. She knew sometimes
eggs just needed a little push... literally. Nudging the largest egg in her
clutch, she tipped it over and it hit the sands, splitting neatly in half. Out
dropped a hatchling that hissed as it hit the floor and rolled a couple of feet.
Looking up defiantly, it shot into the air, swooped around over the candidates'
heads and roared. A sound so small a creature shouldn't be able to make. This
hatchling would most likely not do as it was told, would probably not be easy to
rear but would certainly help protect it's bond. As it dropped down, pulling to
a stop just in time to avoid hitting Lerya,
showing just how much it could control it's movements, the gem hatchling grinned
and said:
"Nice to meet you. I think I can help you with some of your problems."
Another of Derastell's eggs hatched, maybe the hatchling did not want to be
pushed and had decided action was of the essence. As the gem dragonet's tail
pushed through the shell, the little creature inside shimmied out and hopped up,
some shards still lodged on it's head and wings. Shaking itself like a dog, the
dragonet crooned with pleasure and innocently gawked at the waiting candidates,
taking it's sweet time to decide. Finally it slithered across the sands,
apparently skipping as it lifted it's tail and wings in an odd fashion, but
clearly enjoying the feel of the sand, the sun and the wind. The hatchling made
it's way toward Shreeah and asked:
"Why would you ever run out of money?"
cocking it's head it grinned, "You can just make
some."
Miara, the tactful
Lian Mini from Clan Akelara, watched with big eyes as all these tiny
dragonlings found their way in the world. She yearned to take one for
herself. Trembling slightly, she felt her emotions intensify as a foreign
consciousness touched the edges of her mind. The contact was calm, profound
and felt wise, a thing she had not expected from a creature that
had just hatched. But there it was, waiting, without obligation. But she
took the plunge and opened up her mind.
"Thank you for letting me join you."
the dragonet said quietly and sat down right beside her.
Kyrrha, stroking her little bond
suddenly felt the little creature tense in her hands.
"What's wrong?" she asked.
"I'm waiting." it said.
"For what?"
"For me." the answer came as
an egg from Gartass' clutch sprang open. The hatchling within took to the
sky and seemed very energetic as it settled down next to the other
dragonet that had already found a place in her arms and heart. This new
hatchling smiled brightly as it added:
"I want to travel too."
One of the eggs in Ada's clutch quivered, stilled and then
rocked as it's inhabitant thrust it's wings through the shell, using it's
claws to shatter the material that bound it. Rising up it swayed a bit as
if dancing in the air, going left and right, back and forth. Having
trouble making a decision, the hatchling finally took the plunge
and dove toward Klebsiella. As the
powerful dragonet hovered in front of her it hummed and waited
expectantly. Finally Klebsiella smiled and added a few noted to the
dragonet's tune.
"Continue!" the dragonet
demanded.
"Later silly." Klebsiella said, "wait until the
hatching's finished".
Gorve was starting to get
a bit bored with the hatching. Crystal clear dragonet after crystal clear
dragonet hatching and bonding had been exciting at first, but by this time the
purple dragon whorling had had her fill. Maybe she should go look up that
Evilness plant dragon again. Although the dragoness had not been interested in
visiting the greenhouse with Geda at first, meeting up with that delightful
mischievous fellow had made her days at Lantessama quite enjoyable. Together
they'd played several games of hide and scare the residents, they'd even
exchanged the hydroball ball with a water plant seed that had hatched right in
the middle of the match. That had been such fun.
A soft pull on her tail had her waking up from her pleasant memories. And there
it was, right behind her was a little stealthy gem dragonet that smiled
with glee to have been able to sneak up on her. Practically jumping with
the joy of the game the hatchling said:
"I got you! I got you! Can we play again?"
Geda, meanwhile was busy looking into the
bright eyes of his own bonded gem dragon. The hatchling that had sought him out
was on the larger side with relatively small wings and seemed to prefer
climbing over flying. But despite it's awkward movement, the dragonet
radiated warmth and happiness at having found someone likeminded,
as it said:
"I want to visit your jungle and see all these
tropical plants and flowers. Please take me with you."
The next hatchling to emerge was a brawny snake with a
powerful body and large wings. It seemed not at all tired from breaking
free and had energy to spare a few quick laps of the sands, greeting the
adult gem dragons and even spiralling up to look at the attending dragons
with curious eyes. Next it soared down and headed for the
candidates, knowing already which one it had to seek out. The hatchling
went toward Ine'Aqua'Eet and said:
"You are like me. You like to serve a
greater purpose. I'll go with you."
Erwinia stood cradling her
brown firelizard. The excitement of all the little impressions had her
heart thundering and having something small and alive to hold on to helped
her focus as the sequences of the hatching crashed in her mind, sounding
like beautiful music. She just knew she'd be able to create better music
after having experienced this. Suddenly a bubbly and outgoing
presence enveloped her, feeling both warm and exciting.
"I want to make that music with you."
the hatchling spoke into her mind.
As the dragonets scurried, flew or floated across the
sands, they'd caused tremors all over the sands that spurned on other eggs
to hurry up and hatch. One such egg cracked open and as the dragon inside
spilled out, it had to wait for a bit to regain it's strength. That last
spurt of activity had tired it out and now it seemed to lack the strength
to get up. Other hatchlings hatched around it and made their moves.
Two of those seemed to race toward the same group of people, neither of
them wanting to give in. They launched into the air and flew the last
remaining feet until they reached the candidates. One of them, a sturdy
and outspoken hatchling that shrieked for attention and made sure everyone
had their eyes on it and not it's sibling, headed for Isra
Charalambos. Hissing to all others that tried to reach for it,
it settled on it's chosen's purple shoulder and hissed:
"Only you will do. You're the only one
who'll be able to keep up with me."
The other hatchling was more slender than the first, maybe a bit longer
with larger wings. As the first had made it's -loud- choice, the second
had calmed down and now looked positively relaxed as it hovered close to Ammon
Felinus and settled down carefully on the boy's shoulders.
Flapping until it found it's balance it said: "I'm
so happy you're mine. We'll go far together."
Another egg from Veralite's clutch hatched, the dragonet taking
it's sweet time hovering above the sand, seemingly shrouded in a dustcloud
before the strange wind that had caused that spectacle settled down. And
then the dragonet just made it's way to the candidates. Looking plain
and demure if not for the slight twinkle in it's eye that gave away
that this dragonet also liked to be a bit mischievous when the
opportunity presented itself, the winged snake floated toward Uyata
and quietly plopped down beside her other gem dragon.
"Pleased to make your acquaintance."
it said, "I trust we'll all get along."
Finally the tired snake dragonet had recovered enough to launch
into the air. It flew straight and sure, without a doubt choosing to bond
to Lapinus, the white bunny kin.
Friendly and outgoing it landed on the space navigator and gestured,
barely being able to contain himself.
"I know that took too long, but I'll train hard to become stronger.
And then we can travel the stars together." it said excitedly.
Zybir, the ruby Lian Mini dragon
watched the two other Lian dragons with their new bonds. Not many eggs
were left, would there be a bond for him in this clutch? Or would he have
to wait for a future clutch. He was neither impatient nor frustrated, but
felt a soft ache in his heart as he watched the contentment on his
fellows' faces. A sudden noisy yell caught his attention and as he turned
to the sands, he saw a hatchling thundering toward him, the hatchling was small
but feisty, with a passionate look in it's eye.
"I'm sorry I made you wait."
it said, "You're already so amazing I knew
it had to be you."
Zybir's bond had knocked over a couple of eggs in his mad dash
forward and two dragonets emerged on the sands. The first was a small
hatchling that looked dashing and radiant as it flapped it's
wings and headed toward Aranicola who
waited on the edge of the sands with her other dragonet. The umbrella she
usually carried to avoid getting sunburned, was shoved into her
boyfriend's hands and she stretched out her free arm to make room for her
second bond.
"No we're complete." the hatchling
said and snuggled close, it's eyes falling closed.
The other dragonet was a playful sort. It slithered toward the
candidates and winked to Zta who was
waiting with her dragon Bhikuth at the edge of the mountains.
"Can you guess what colour I'll be?"
it asked, "I love riddles and rhyming
and thee."
One hatchling cut it's tail on a particularly sharp
piece of shell as it was hungrily making it's way to the
candidates. With a short squeak of pain, it drew up it's tail and waved it
in front of it's face with a bit of a shocked expression. Keeping it's
tail away from the sand, it hovered toward the candidates and let itself
fall in the waiting arms of Lindine, a
long-haired, white unicorn shifter.
"We'll fix that in no time. You're so smart to keep it away
from the dirt."
"You don't lie." the
hatchling said and snuggled a little closer to it's new bond.
Proteus made way for the next
hatchling that approached their group. Morganella hadn't impressed yet and
Proteus was certain the energetic and friendly-seeming
dragonet was meant for her but was surprised when instead the little snake
latched on to him and snuggled closer to his other bond.
"Don't tell me what to do."
it yawned, "I can make my own choices
and I want you."
The hatching was reaching the end, only a handful of eggs
were left and the sun was well on it's way across the sky. The light had
turned more mellow than bright and this suited the next hatchling to pierce
through it's shell. Quietly it had been waiting for just the right time to make
an appearance. Patience was after all a virtue it felt was worth the
effort.
During the hatching it had quietly chipped at it's shell, meticulously making
indentations, and now with one final tap, the shell folded away around it.
Pleased with the aesthetic effect, the dragonet chirped to draw attention, rose
up from the sands and flew to Shreeah. The
winged snake ruffled her black and white fur and took it's place next to the
other hatchling, quickly nuzzling their snouts as they got to know each other.
"I'll join to keep you safe... and stylish."
the hatchling spoke before settling back to enjoy what remained of the
event.
The next to last of Derastall's eggs hatched and the hatchling, a
good-sized dragonet that crawled out with a determined look in it's
eye and a stubborn streak to match, made it's way to Braegan.
It flew down next to the other hatchling and confided to the Lunari man:
"I just love all your glitter and sparkles.
I think it makes you look amazing."
Another egg from Veralite's clutch hatched and the
dragonet zipped below it's mother's wings and after one last caress
from her tail, it departed toward the candidates. Feeling a bit uncertain,
it stopped at the edge of the sands, a bit unwilling to leave the warmth
behind. But then it suddenly swooped forward, launching itself onto the
back of Limaidua the mosasaur, nearly
knocking off the other hatchling already resting there. Nervously
clutching the other one so it wouldn't fall, the dragonet stammered:
"I'm sorry, I just don't like the cold!"
In the commotion of the previous impression, a suave and
self-assured dragonet had hatched. Seeking not to be in the
spotlight, it sought out the last of the magical musicians, Morganella,
instead and quietly said:
"I'll make certain to power-up your
performances from the shadows."
Eukith
felt worried as nearly all the eggs had hatched and still she hadn't
bonded. From her vantage point on top of her brother Tiax, she only spotted
one more egg. A cute, dotted one that she'd had her eyes on since the
hatching started. Well, it was also the egg that was closest to her and so
she had the best view of it. Wishing with all her might, she wanted it to
be hers. Maybe by the strength of her wishing, a spiderweb pattern was
starting to form on the surface and Eukith gasped as she saw a clawed wing
poke through. The hatchling broke through, using it's weight to break free
and make it's appearance in the world. To Eukith the dragonet could only
be described as beautiful because the moment they locked eyes she
knew it was hers. And immediately her own web of connections and
relationships started to grow as the supportive presence of the gem
dragon entered her mind and brought with it a promise: "More.
Much more"
The absolute last egg hatched and the hatchling seemed a bit surprised
that it was last. After all it had wanted to be among the first, but maybe
taking that little nap right before breaking through had been a mistake.
But it had been so comfy and that humming had been so comforting.... But
well, no use crying over spilled milk. The hatchling decided that bonding
last was in itself an honour. For it would stay in people's memories. So
off it sped toward the waiting candidates. All of them had already bonded,
but the numerous bonds with two gem dragons proved that the gem dragons
weren't all that possessive. The winged snake zeroed in on Isra
Charalambos, a passionate woman who decided where people went
and the hatchling liked that duty.
"I want to lead the way with you."
it said and settled next to it's bonds other hatchling who'd settled down
a bit but still managed to say:
"As long as you can keep up with me."
"Oh I will."
