The team came back down, Ilandra and Ovi laying on stretchers, but conscious and looking okay. Rookie came behind them. His young face worried, the green of his eyes darkened by tension and his short black hair ruffled. When he saw Raven and Merxes he stopped and asked:
"Did we get him?"
"No, she got away, but we know who she is now."
"She?"
"You weren't with us on that case, but a little over two years ago IRS was hired to investigate a series of thefts in hospitals. Ivana Rickall, one of the nurses, stole drugs and medical supplies and sold them through a third party. She confessed and got two years. Apparently she's out and back in business." Raven said.
"But this is more profitable." Merxes said.
"And more thought out. She's not working alone." Raven noted and turned around grabbing his set of keys. "They won't try anything else tonight, not with the prototype gone… If you two go to the hospital to see how things are with Ovi and Ilandra, then I'll stay here the rest of the night."
"Ok." Rookie said while Merxes shook his head and started: "but.."
"They need you to report what happened." Raven said, terminating the conversation.
Merxes shrugged and let himself be dragged out by Ryan. Outside he turned toward the younger member and said: "Don't you know he's going to look for clues?"
"Of course. But I also know he works better on his own. Besides Ilandra and Ovi need us too. I don't know what happened in the lobby."
"He could have gone and left the clues to me." Merxes said.
"You're not half as good as he is when it comes to clues."
Merxes shut up and stepped into the minivan they had come with. "I'm driving." He said.
Ryan smiled and got in too, turning on the police scanner to find out to which hospital their partners had been taken.
Raven locked the doors after Rookie and Merxes had left and turned down the lights. He climbed the stairs and felt a strange feeling as he saw the bomb. It was gsimple but very effective and well put together.
Raven didn't linger long. Instead of walking in the ruined hallway, he went even higher and stepped out on the roof. No clues were left for the human eye. But that wasn't the only pair Raven could count on. He changed into his raven-form and watched closer. The deep cold black of his eyes not missing a thing.
The Raven flew around the building, looking at every angle, investigating every nook and cranny. And finally he found it. A clue that was all he could have hoped for. A smudge of dirt on the roof, some moss that was imprinted beyond human sight. A word.
"SOLIT."
Raven flew back to the roof and changed back. He knew enough. Solit was a construction company. He had never heard anything incriminating about the place, but it was a start. Raven walked down and placed himself behind the lobby desk again. He reached under the desk and found what he was looking for, the yellow pages.
