Dragonstake 3
Xander helped Liz up the benches
for the Bipedra Hatching. They had a seat well in the back to keep away
from any possible violence that might occur. Though they hadn't seen much
of Raven these past days as they were all studying the new concepts and
life this planet had to offer, what they had seen from him had been
hopeful.
Liv had thought of him as a depressing loner when she had first seen him,
but on Cy Raven seemed to be quite sociable. Every time they saw him he
had another amusing story ready for them to hear, most of them about
Cerces and her ever-growing consternation about the lack of technology in
this 'Godforsaken blasted planet' as she liked to call Cy.
"Do you think Raven will impress?" Liv asked Xander.
"I hope for him he does... I don't think I would like being left
standing on these sands." he answered dreading the possibility that
even a man like Raven could be dead at the end of the hatching.
"They won't let anything happen to him." Liv said, at least
that's what I heard.
"I know, but he doesn't seem to be the type for one of these bipedras."
"Have you forgotten that he is a shifter?" Liv asked.
"I never knew you to be prejudiced." Xander said astonished.
What he said was true. He had known Liv from when they had both been
studying at the University. They were roughly the same age and divided
into the same living quarters, though the male dorm was a few flights of
stairs higher than the girl's. For as long as he had known Liv he had
liked her. Their friendship had deepened when they were both signed up for
the same colonisation-crew and they had been together for about 5 years
now and never had he known her to be prejudiced.
"I'm not!" she said, "But you have to admit he's done some
pretty illegal things with his ability."
"Like you have never used your status to get something done."
Xander said.
Liv wisely shut up. She had indeed used her status as colonist-biologist
to get things done faster... but the way Xander defended Raven was
suspicious. Liv knew Xander was different. He had never told her he was
gay in those exact words... but they had worked for years close together
and never had he even made a move. She had gotten more looks from old
Mechs than from Xander.
"Why are you smiling?" he asked.
"You like him." she said.
"Well he did get us of that planet and has been a friend to us for
these past months.." Xander started, hiding behind talk like was his
usual strategy. But from the look Liv gave him he knew he shouldn't try.
It was odd how they sometimes connected, but Xander was amazed that she
knew about his personal preference in love. He had never even made a
remark that could be interpreted as gay.
"Sure." Live said, smiling broadly.
"He's taken you know." Xander said.
"What? Has Raven got a plaid-wearing sissy better half somewhere in a
closet?" Liv asked.
Xander looked at her a bit irritated. He was rather uncomfortable to be
referred to as a plaid-wearing sissy. He only had one plaid shirt and that
was lightyears away. Rest assure that he would never buy one again if
there were stereotypes around.
"He's having a thing with that psychologist that came with him... the
one with the glasses." Xander said imitating Ovi.
"That's the first I've heard of it." Liv said trying to get
Xander to say he had at least thought of the possibility.
"Shh! It's starting!" Xander happily whispered back though his
cheeks were a shade more red than usual.
A few hours later the long hatching
was over. Bipedras had hatched, found mates and the pure Hydras had been
taken to be killed. Liv thought she could at least sleep a bit better
knowing those bloodthirsty dragons were gone.
"Raven!" Xander yelled when he saw the tall frame of their
friend.
Raven turned and smiled at them. He was standing in front of his new
partner, a black-red lightning striped 3-headed hydra by the name of
Corvosa.
"Did you see the hatching?"
"Hardly, we were far back so we wouldn't get eaten." Liv smiled,
"Is this one friendly?"
"Err... As friendly as can be expected I suppose. He is fed."
Raven shrugged.
"Do you know what Cerces got?" Xander asked.
"Yeah, she got a blue-gold icy one. It suits her personality like a
match made in heaven for as far I could see. She didn't see me of course.
I wouldn't want her to know that we are here."
"She might take vengeance." Liv shuddered and then overcame her
fear. "Can we help with Corvosa until we get our own. I'd love to get
some practice before I have my own." Liv said, "though mine
would have to be more cuddly."
Corvosa snorted and glared her down.
"Corvosa says he is cuddly and that you can touch him. He won't eat
you...he said nothing about nibbling though." Raven said avoiding the
small tail of the baby bipedra.
Liv carefully extended her hand to the top of Corvosa's middle head and
stroked him. His eyes closed and he started making a sound that resembled
snoaring.
"Guys." Liv smiled... "Always falling asleep, the lazy
bas*****"
"No swearing in front of my baby!" Raven said laughing.
"I doubt he'd hear it." Liv said patting Corvosa's head.
