Sparky was hanging round the fires again. Silversmith understood that fire had a hypnotic pull on a lot of people but it was dangerous. Especially for nymphs who dried out quickly. The young, tanned nymph had been visiting a lot lately. They probably were thinking of apprenticing at their shop. Time would tell if they had it in them to work with precious metals, gems and glass. Silversmith themselves had been here for the last 4 years. One day they'd been the teen staring at the fire. Or in their case, the rows of precious metal chains and settings. As their name suggested, Silversmith preferred silver, but they could also work with gold, copper and some others.
"Keep safe." they told Sparky, "If you can wait for a bit then I can show you some things."
"I can wait!" the younger nymh said eagerly.
Sparky loved the hot air and the sound of the fire. They were 90% certain that they'd start working here. Their other options were the fire department or the police. But each time they saw the finished jewellery in the shop front, their heart tightened with delight. To be able to make something so pretty would be amazing. Although when people asked they claimed that working with the fire was the main attraction.
Sparky felt their fingers twitch, wanting to touch the tools that were leftnext to the fire. But they'd promised to wait.
Although just a little...
But before anything could happen, the door flew open and Seaglass sped inside.
"Look what I found!" they called.
The flashy golden-skinned nymph with long green hair and the boho-style clothes never did anything quiet or calm. And today they'd heard of something so amazing that they could not keep it to themselves. They'd been working at the shop for 3 years now, specialising in anything glassy. They loved creating little paper weights and beads with swirling colours and fluid forms.
When Seaglass had the attention of those present, they continued:
"They're financing off-world apprenticeships to those under 25! Anyone interested can apply!"
Some nymphs, mostly those older than 25, turned back to their work, but a handful crept closer, looking at the poster in Seaglass' hands.
"Why would they do that?" Sparky asked.
"To network, build connections and generally to get us out into the Nexus. When we return, we'd be an asset to Nidus Caelestis."
"Just for that?"
"They might have some extra incentives." Silversmith agreed.
"What?"
"Dragons." Silversmith said after a short pause.
They pointed to the list of places they could visit. Each and every one of them offered dragon adoptions. They were always looking for candidates, bonders, aspirants. The names they called the young people showing promise were multitude. Silversmith was quite certain that they were right though.
"Wouldn't that be amazing!" Sparky called, almost bursting out of their skin.
"Do dragons like glass?" Seaglass wondered.
"Would we be able to work with dragons in tow? Where would we live?" Silversmith added.
"Way to dash our dreams." Seaglass retorted but they were not really mad.
"Hey, you can dream. I'm just stating problems."
"I can make glass anywhere."
"Maybe we should think this through."

A few days had gone by, but the posters advertising the exchange program were everywhere. All the young nymphs were talking about the opportunity. Plenty were considering venturing out into the Nexus for a couple of years. They could learn a lot, would not need to worry about money and they could always return. In fact, they were being counted on to return.
"Hey, are you here for the sign up too?" Sparky asked when they recognised Silversmith and Seaglass.
"Yeah, I can't wait to go out there. Maybe I can visit one of those dormant volcanoes and go look for glass." Seaglass said excitedly.
"I've been thinking I can probably pick up some new designs at different cultures." Silversmith agreed.
"I just want to go see the dragons." Sparky confessed, feeling a bit self-conscious.
"There's no harm in that." Silversmith assured them.
The three of them conversed while they waited and slowly the line moved. One by one they were admitted to the office where they were questioned about their hopes and wishes. After everyone had been through, they waited in a lounge until their places were announced.
"Hey!" Sparky noted, "We're going to the same place!"
"Plenty of water around Twoarth." Silversmith agreed, "A lot of the others are headed there too."
"So I guess we're going to meet sea dragons." Seaglass added.
"They're probably safer for us." Silversmith noted.
"I hope they can still breathe fire. Or zap lightning." Sparky pouted.
