Part 5: Lattio
Lattio was mumbling silent curses as he entered the field reserved for duelling. He had reserved it months ago... but what did that matter if today no-one showed to play? They had all quit the club gone to the next rage. Surfing! Of all things!
Lattio shook his head. Duelling was a noble sport, something you did for life. It was a theory, a way of living. Like surfing could ever surpass duelling. Lattio snorted. There was no chance that it would catch on. Lattio only hoped that within a month or two his friends would come back.
Making a bow to the air, Lattio practiced a few of his blows. He soon gave up though, there was no feedback when you were fighting air. Besides, what did you hit when you hit air? It wasn't as fulfilling as pointing the thin point of his blade at one of the red points of the suit of his adversary.

After a few of these frustrating questions Lattio turned, the sun hitting his short carrot-coloured hair and his firey red eyes. Anyone standing a few feet away would think his eyes were burning from within, smouldering ashes of a terrifying fire. Of course this was just something that happened when the sun shone into his eyes. Most of the time they were a dark deep red, like bright blood.
Lattio sighed and decided to just go home and mope in his room. Maybe he could even have some fun with his younger brothers... They hadn't found out about the surfing yet. It was better for him if they didn't though. It would be just like his brothers to go around telling people he didn't like water. Maybe that was an understatement. Lattio hated water. Not for bathing, but the thought of being surrounded by gallons and gallons of water filled with creatures he couldn't se was rather terrifying. And on a more basic level he felt like it would kill him.
Lattio hoped that basic level meant something about his dorment psychic powers. Almost everyone had those, but not as much as a single burst of power had revealed itself to him. It wouldn't have been that big a deal, but his little brothers all had major things going on. Complete domination of a single element. But not Lattio...
Lattio decided to just go sit and think on the grassy field outside the duelling field. maybe he would gain some strength by focussing. Maybe not... One thing he knew for sure though was that he was not going home earlier than he had told his mother he would be home.
Coming outside Lattio bumped into and odd trio. They were fighting, trying to keep someone from running. But that didn't mean they could just bump into people and get going without apologising. Lattio really wasn't in the mood.
"Fools!" he yelled, still lingering a bit in the archaic way of thinking from his duelling practice. Though that hadn't worked out swell. The thought of it just made him angrier.
"Sorry." the youngest men said.
"Why don't you look where you're going." the woman said.
"Eyrien... don't start." Ryan asked.
"Darn! He's getting away!" Eyrien yelled.
"Who?" Lattio asked.
"Qatar!" Eyrien yelled after the somwhat overweight man in his late twenties that was fleeing. She started to run behind him yelling things like "Stop!" and "Hold him!"
That left Ryan and Lattio standing outside.
"I'm really sorry." Ryan said again, "Eyrien can be blunt and egocentric."
"Is she your girlfriend?"
"As if... she told me this morning I couldn't buy a scarf because she wanted it. I haven't gotten rid of her since."
"Shouldn't you follow her?"
"I guess she will just find me again like she always does. But yeah... maybe I should start running just so she won't get upset and read another thing I don't want her too."
"She's a telepath?!"
"Yes!"
"Maybe I'll come along." Lattio said. Maybe the telepath couldtell him if he had any powers. It was worth the shot... plus she owed him an apology.
