Part 4: Iagador
Iagador breathed in deeply. The sea air welcomed him. He had smelled it for an entire two years. He had started here, at this exact spot on his giant track around the Northern Continent, always following the sea. His trip would have taken longer if he had also followed the mountains, but Iagador had decided against it and hitched a ride on an electric. That experience alone had been worth his entire trip. They had run into a thunder storm on their way to the East and Iagador had seen the Electric feed. It would be something he would never forget.
Iagador started walking the sandy road back to the Cities. Like most of the Lyrianese he had lived in those large park-like cities. He had enjoyed living there, but there had always been the need to explore, to learn more. Now that he had seen the entire coastline of the Northern Continent he felt he would be satisfied for some time to come. But as sure as the sun rose every day Iagador knew that maybe only a few years down the road he would feel that urge again... and that time he might do the inland, or the mountains or the forest. Places enough to wander around.
Iagador broke into a short run. Those treks were still years away. For now he would be happy just to be able to take a bath, rest a while and read some books. His long black hair trailed behind him in the wind and his dark, almost black eyes scanned the ground in front of him. He hadn't sprained an ankle yet and he was hard pressed to keep it that way.
Iagador reached home about half an hour later. He lived alone at what had been an outer edge of the City in the West. Today he lived almost in the center of it. many young people had settled themselves in the West in the comfortable houseblocks surrounded by gardens. The white buildings still looked the same as on the day he had left them, but some minor details had changed.
The roses in Ms Kaela's garden were now red in stead of white and he didn't recognise some of the kids playing in the streets. Little girls and boys about the age of 6 that had still been toddlers when he had left the City. But not everything had changed. Ms Kaela herself was still sitting on a bench below a willow tree, feeding ducks and smiling at the children. And there were some of his neighbours walking in the park. A few new marriages had happened, but not many he didn't know about. Dragon mail was rather precise and swift when it came to delivering.
Finally Iagador reached his own flat and opened the door. His room was as he had left it, only his mother had gotten in now and again to clean it.
"Surprise!"
Iagador jumped. His mother, a well preserved 54-year old stepped from behind a closet and smiled at him.
"Mom... How did you know I was coming?"
"I've had the people around here trained to spot you. Some of the children rushed to me and gave me just enough time to get here. It's so good to see you, son."
"It's good to see you too mom."
Iagador hugged his mother and immediately excused himself for the state in which his clothes were.
"No problem!" she smiled, "I'll just wash these and then you can have dinner at my place."
"Mom!" Iagador yelled, "Calm down. I can wash my own clothes... though I won't say no to dinner."
"I'll see you at seven." his mother said as she stepped out the door.
"Sure thing."
Iagador closed the door and undressed himself to take a long soaking in his bathtub. Considerate as ever he found the tub already filled with hot water. Iagador made a mental not to thank his mother about it that night. He had no problem with carrying buckets of water and heating them, but finding it done was heavenly.
After his bath Iagador dressed himself in new clothes, took a book and headed out. It was time for some heavy relaxing in nature. Iagador wandered through the park avenues, easily finding his way to a strip of grass that was reserved for relaxation. The smell of grass was almost like new to him and he enjoyed it greatly. It had rained that morning he noticed. The benches were still moist but the sun had already dried the grass. Stretching himself Iagador looked around to see who else was in the park.
