Mizuha Filidegembira and
Pool Alnahr
Mizuha swam a lazy lap around her eggs.
They were fine really. Plenty of dragons were keeping an eye out and it's
not like anything really dangerous was living in the shallow waters of the
Lantessama Isle bay. Now deeper in the oceans she'd keep her guard up, but
here? The white and blue dragoness got ready for a quick nap. there was
little else to do but wait anyway. Alnahr would be back soon and then they
could switch again.
A short while later, unusual currents awoke Mizuha. Opening one eye, her
hazy brain took a while to register what was happening. She wouldn't have
to switch places with Alnahr after all. She just hoped he'd get bach here
in time.
"Hatching!" she signaled,
"My eggs are hatching!"
She rose out of the waters and hung like a giant beacon above her eggs.
People startd gathering at the beach while sea dragons approached from the
deeper waters.
"I won't be long." her mate messaged
her and Mizuha relaxed.
About an hour later, the sea dragon eggs were still wobbling but everyone
who needed to attend was present. Plenty of candidates stood in the water
and several sea dragons and other water dwellers were prowling about.
With a hop, one of the eggs finally broke and a bright golden hatchling
swam up from the sea bottom. He was a combination of both parents, having
a ridge that ran from the top of his head to the tip of his tail, which
flared into two big fins. He had both flippered paws and large finsails.
And not surprisingly, he also had the whiskers that both his parents
posessed. The sand male made his way toward his intended in a laid-back
way, stopping to investigate some things that seemed fun. But finally he
stopped in front of Lewis Green.
"I very much like the things you like... although
I don't think books would agree with me."
"I'll see about getting you some audio books, Zwool." the Earth fisherman
promised.
Two more eggs imploded, creating a tiny whirlpool that got the two
hatchlings tangled. Alnahr had to help his two sons get sorted but
afterwards they quickly swam away. One headed for the shore while the
other, a bright salmon-red male, headed for the ocean. He seemed to be
struggling a bit, trying to move too many limbs in too many ways. But
Lessiona, the green coral dragon turtle, sped to his aid. The large sea
dragoness let the red hatchling rest while she gently floated on the
water.
"You have a lot to learn, Phorbek."
she chided gently, "But I guess you did well for
your first swim."
Meanwhile the very dark blue Abyss male had gotten close to
Zenoar, the Gremynian doctor. The man looked out of place in the water
with his pants rolled up and a too-stiff posture. Clearly he was not used
to the water. But Pruesby woud help him out.
"I'm happy you waited for me." Pruesby
said.
"I'm glad you came so quickly." Zenoar responded.
As if impatient, the last three eggs now all hatched in rapid succession.
A bright white female with blue fins who closely resembled her mother in
colouring, made for the easy-going water demon Vegrin. He was busy
transfiguring some pebbles into more precious metals and had caught her
attention. She had big eyes when she asked him:
"Can you teach me magic? I want to make pretty
things."
"We'll see, Fierme." he responded.
Another lightly coloured finkrat, this one with fins in an iridescent pink
and blue colour palette, headed straight for the large boulder where
singer Heart was entertaining the crowd with her music. The Sagan nymph
had been at Lantessama for a good time and had been hoping to get lucky in
this hatching. It seemed she'd been right not to doubt her chances.
"I love your music.
I don't think I
could live without it after
hearing it!"
the small female said dramatically.
"Then it's a good thing you can come home with me, Arlene." Heart replied.
That left the last hatchling, a rusty brown rock finkrat who managed to
crawl as close as she could to Ikemiq and took a good sniff of the fishy
odour the bird woman had about her.
"Marvelous!" she commented.
"Are you going to grow big and strong? I'm looking for someone big enough
to scare away the big fish." Ikemiq jested.
"Rawr!" the finkrat growled, letting
out a remarkably loud sound for one still so tiny,
"I'll be big!"
"That's good then, Temba."
With all the eggs hatched and the hatchlings bonded, the humans went to
enjoy the impromptu barbecue that awaited them. In the ocean, Alnahr
divided the fish he'd caught among those who lingered but was happy to see
that others also chipped in. The feast continued into the early hours of
morning, but hatchlings - and some candidates - didn't manage to stay
awake that long.

Gernoht
Calamare had taken great care to break
the news. Gernoht, her mate and bond, was after all a worrywart and he'd
no doubt be fearful of all that could go wrong. But it was something that
Calamare had wished for for a long time now. Though cut off from her home,
she had build a new one with Gernoht and now they would extend their
family.
"You wanted to tell me something?"
Gernoht asked Calamare.
The two of them lived in the seas around Lantessama Isle, in a cosy set of
caves and cliffs. Calamare could take on human form and she sometimes did
to barter for some items on the isle, but she was usually content to stay
in her draconic form. There were plenty of other sea dragons abound and
most of what they needed could be found in the water.
"We won't be alone much longer."
Calamare said carefully.
"Is it...?"
"We're expecting, yes." she said.
"That's wonderful!" Gernoht replied.
Calamare had not seen any doubts or concerns cross his facial features and
she relaxed.
"You know I'm not going to let you do anything
dangerous, right?"
"I figured as much." she grinned,
"I won't stop doing the things I like, but I'll
allow you to stay with me if it makes you feel better."
Calamare's abdomen grew larger and at
one point she wondered if she might become a whale. It seems that they'd
been blessed with more than one child. Gernoht worried of course, but the
two of them were surrounded by a lot of care. Experience nekrat mothers
visited her often. Zeni, the dragon Healer and Klip kept a close eye on
them, ready to intervene should it be necessary. But no complications
befell them and Calamare carried her children to term. She birthed a boy
with dark hide and yellow fins and the bright yellow eyes of his father
first. A daughter came next, her eyes were darker and her fins were a
rusty orange. Her third child was another boy, with lighter hide and the
same red fins that Calamare had.
Years passed and her children grew. Each of the three displayed a
different character and at times their home was filled with broadcasted
arguements as especially the eldest two, Zeb and Zhika, clashed. Zolu, her
third was a more quiet child, sometimes seeming much older than her years.
She'd been the first to communicate and she did so in a soft and feminine
voice. Zeb had been not much later, and he'd made it a point of honour to
be the first in everything since. Always studying and practicing. Zhika
had taken her sweet time, but then she was much more physical in her
interactions and was still the one who showed the most signs of affection.
Calamare and Gernoht did their best to teach them. Though exiled, her
children still possessed the gifts of her kind. They had functional magic
that meant they could do damage if they were not careful with it. They
were strong empaths and conversed effortlessly with telepathy. As
adolescents they started to learn to shapeshift and with it came the need
to learn to speak verbally. Gernoht lamented that he could not help his
children with that. But he was a patient teacher when it came to
teleporting and showing them how to use the knowledge of the nekrats and
their innate network. Though not purebreds, they were definitely part of
it.
More years sped by and the trio were young adults. Capable and ready to
head out on their own. Calamare stealed her heart, Gernoht was heartbroken
and a lubbering mess.
"You'll always have a home with us."
Gernoht sobbed.
"But it's your choice where to go. you could
travel or head to one of the many Nexus schools to study. We hear good
things of Caramaba, Zekira or the Academia Magica."
"No need to rush though." Gernoht
