Hatching 32

Khargacroxeth gazed across the secluded area of the sands at the center of Lantessama Isle. As usual, not too many people were close as she preferred a quiet environment. Oftentimes a couple of humans or a few dragons had visited her and the green dragon with the rainbow wings had allowed it since she'd been assured that no-one would approach if she gave the command. Presath had taken to guarding the sands from a bit further away, his protective and loyal nature keeping him closer to the mother of this clutch than if it were a no-strings-attached mating. On the other hand, he wasn't as close as a true mate would be. Only time would tell where their feelings lay as both dragons were careful about who to allow power over their hearts.
A stirring in the eggs around her had
Khargacroxeth inspected them and she suddenly noticed the hairline fractures spreading across their surface.
"My eggs are hatching!" she called and bugled, alerting everyone to come.
She might not be able to bond but she was half Pernese and so was Presath which meant that her children would most likely need to bond at hatching. Luckily plenty of candidates had been found and even a few single dragons had gathered around. Though
Khargacroxeth expected that the humans that had been found would stand the most chance of impressing. There were a few Pernese-born candidates and some humans from other worlds. There were a couple of halflings too, a maned wolf from Port Utharus and a draconic Malakym from Kynn. Of these last Khargacroxeth had no idea what their chances were but variety was a good thing to have at a hatching.
The first egg and a dragon as red as his father with his mother's rainbow wings rolled out of the broken shards. The young male ruby stood up and rolled his shoulders, extended his wings and flicked his tail to try and dust himself off. But that was impossible and he finally made his way to Turner, the red-haired healer shapeshifter, and said:
"Help me get this sand off. It itches and I need to look accomplished!"
"Let's head toward the grass first,... Codruth." Turner suggested and then proceeded in rubbing his new dragon down.
Two eggs knocked together and cracked. A dark blue female and a purple male, both with rainbow-coloured wings go tangled in each other. It took a little while for them to sort out which limbs belonged to which and during that time, a dark green emerald male emerged from his egg and happily skipped to the towering viking man, Wilm. Unperturbed and unconcerned the opal-emerald hatching said:
"I'd like to meet your kids, they seem like a fun bunch."
At the mention of his children, Wilm grinned and his face softened: "Of course, Riberoth. As soon as we can leave I'll take you to them."
Almost right behind, the dark blue Lapis-Lazuli female with the multi-hued wings leaned against her chosen, the maned wolf Theresa who was standing on the far left, her ear with her magical hearing aid turned away from the commotion. The dragon nuzzled Theresa's fur and, eyes drooping closed, the dragoness did not utter words but the warmth of the bond and the need to explore took hold of Theresa who said:
"Imgeth needs to rest."
She then proceeded to scoop up the dark blue hatchling and carried her toward a more secluded spot where she sat down, supporting the hatchling's body as much as possible.
The purple amethyst hatchling had been just a bit slower than his sister, but he too had found a candidate to cling too. Although, in his case it was the stately silver-black-purple dragoness Heyluse. The hatchling, who was of a decent size, watched her bioluminescent patches glow with wide eyes. He seemed hypnotised but far from as tired as his sister had been.
"Might I know your name?" Heyluse asked him, snapping him out of his reverie.
"I'm Tusseth. Do you glow in a pattern?" the hatchling showed that he had in fact been paying close attention.
"If you can spot that algorhythm I'll give you a reward." Heyluse promised, pleased that her bond seemed to possess a keen mind and a thirst for knowledge.
A glassy blue male with radiant rainbow wings had observed the candidates and finally decided upon a bond. He headed toward the Pernese group of people. Emori saw the young male approach and felt certain this blue hatchling would bond his son. But alas, the hatchling had other plans.
"Why did you not apply for my clutch? You tried for so many others."
Feeling the disappointment in his bones, Emori really did not have an answer other than, "Aren't I too old to bond?"
Khargacroxeth bristled and allowed the man's fossile gem dragon Hysaul hint at the answer: "You'll preserve well."
The cook didn't know what hit him, but he clearly knew the name of the hatchling. His dragon. After taking a deep breath, Emori looked around apologetically and said: "Yormuth has chosen me."
Another green female hatched, this one a bit lighter than her sister. She spread her rainbow-coloured wings and took her time. She gazed at the candidates in front of her and when Falanait couldn't help but flash his nice grin, the jade-green hatchling caved. She was in fact happy and caring and the prickly youth charmed her into wanting to make his life better. To her he was so much more than he thought of himself.
"We'll be able to help a lot of people together.... eventually." she said.
"Why would I help them... Sevrynth?" Falanait replied, his ears turning quite red.
The next egg to hatch had been one of the bigger ones. No-one with a Pernese heritage was surprised to see a bronze hatchling crawl out of the shards. But when the topaz-coloured hatchling moved, it became clear that she was maybe not as normal as first appearances might suggest. She flapped her rainbow wings and moved toward the blue-scaled Malakym. His stance was arrogant, his ivory goat horns proud and looking sharp. But the bronze female was not easily scared and she knew her worth.
"I think we'll get along great... As long as you don't argue with me."
Jahen let out a laugh and replied: "I won't be making promises about that, Aperath."
One hatchling remained on the sands. A brown Tiger's Eye female with a delicate build and sleek features moved toward the last remaining candidate. Kimori had been a bit worried that he'd be left standing just as his father had all those times in his younger years. But locking eyes with the brown hatchling, he knew that would not be the case. She moved with purpose after all, and he was clearly her target. Still, the hatchling waited until she was close enough to tough his hands with her nose before introducing herself:
"My name is Hallieth. Sorry to have made you wait."
"I'll never mind waiting for you. I'm just happy you're here"
