Hatching 16
Spectral
Kindraimanth
and Red Firestorm Arekith
by Kitsuneko
Kindraimanth was not a friendly dragon under the best
of circumstances, but when she had been rudely awakened in the middle of
the night, she was downright cranky.
The rainbow purple dragoness growled as a faint glow woke her up. Then she
blinked, as she saw two slightly irritated looking hatchling sitting just
beyond her muzzle. The glow was coming from one of the hatchlings; he was
a bright, fiery yellow-orange colour, and his striped firestorm wings
glowed with a faint light. His brother was a less spectacular opal, what
Kindraimanth knew as a white.
"You'd
think she
would have
the good
grace
to alert
the rest
of the
Isle
before
we
hatched.
She is our
mother,
after
all."
The first dragon said crankily.
His opal brother snorted and came to their mother's defense.
"Oh,
come on, T'jaroth. Kin't ya see 'at she was sleepin'? T'was probly yer
fancy glowin' lights 'at woke 'er up'n the firs' place."
He said with a strange accent.
The first dragon glanced at his brother drolly.
"I told
you already,
my name
is Tijaruoth.
Get it?
TI-JA-RU-OTH!"
The opal blissfully ignored him.
"'Ell? Aren' ya
gonna call th'candidates?" He
questioned Kindraimanth.
She lifted her head, and her warning bugle echoed through the hatching
sands and throughout the rest of Lantessama. Slowly, the candidates began
to walk into the sands. Tijaruoth was the first to find his bond, and he
ran straight up to Meylan, chattering excitedly. "Meylan!
Hey, Meylan,
I'm your
dragon.
I'm Tijaruoth.
What? Oh!
I'm a
Rain
of Fire!
Cool, huh?"
Meylan agreed with his new bond as they walked off to eat.
The opal brightened as two more boys strode into the sands. Oen was
technically the one who was standing for the clutch, but it was Conel that
the opal headed to.
'"Ey,
Conel! Ya kin't get rid o'me 'at easy! M'name's Tebeidanth".
He pronounced the name carefully, so the recorders would be sure to get it
right, and they left.
A third dragon crouched in the shadows, near the shards of Tajiruoth's
shell. His body rippled in dark shades, but he had the same firestorm
wings as his twin. He went largely unnoticed, and most people never even
realized that the dark-skinned dragon had shared an egg with the brighter,
more flambuoyent Tijaruoth.
One candidate, however, did notice. The alien Bleep walked over to the
hatchling, curious. "What are you doing over
here?"
The hatchling looked up at him and seemed to relax with a shrug.
"Nothing
now, I
guess. I'm
Meteorstorm
Rashaelith,
Bleep. Will
you be
my rider?"
Bleep, surprised at his unintended bonding, agreed and they
left the sands together.
It was right about the same time as Rashaelith's unnoticed hatching that
Kindraimanth lifted her wings away from a sixth egg she had hidden below
her body. The egg was small, pale white and moving wildly. It took little
jumps through the air, finally hitting his mother's front paw. At that the
egg burst open and a Firestorm marked, silver male dragon sat on the
sands, shaking his head, whirling away the sand that had fallen on him.
Looking with his strangely coloured golden eyes, the hatchling looked over all
the candidates, but finally pointed toward one with black hair and strange
amber eyes, "Sol!
You are
mine.
My name
is Soleil."
Two more eggs began to rock, and the first of them broke up with a loud
crack, spilling a spectral-hided male onto the sandy ground. The other egg
cracked, revealing another set of twins, this time two females. The first
twin had a glistening, creamy-gold body with pink-orange wingsails. Her
sister, though she had the same creamy hide as her twin, boasted darker,
blood-stained wings.
The brighter female moved first to her chosen, and sat looking up at
Orina's face. "Orina, I am
yours. It is I, Sunrise Kinarth."
Orina reached over to scratch the hatchling's eyeridge with a
smile.
The other female moved to another female candidate, Roni. "Kenoch
cannot control you anymore, mine. I, the Blood-Tipped
Vision of Hope dragon, Seacreth,
will be here to protect you now."
The spectral dragon had spent his time running hyperly around
the sands. Finally, he caught sight of one of the candidates and rushed
over to him. He stopped suddenly, spraying a wave of sand over his chosen.
He grinned sheepishly as Hielo was splashed with sand, the blue-green and
white fire lizard looking exasperated. "Oops,
sorry about
that, Hielo. Anyway,
I'm Denionsth!
Can we eat now?"
The last egg had not rocked at all since the beginning of the
hatching, and even now, it did not move at all. Kindraimanth crooned
worriedly, nudging the egg gently with her muzzle. She was relieved when
she felt a slight, answering wiggle from inside the egg. She crooned again
encouragingly. "Come
on
out now, little one. You can't
stay in there
forever."
Finally, a tiny, hairline crack appeared along the side of the
egg as it began to move with slightly more vigor. Kindraimanth crooned
encouragingly, and finally took the egg in her mouth and gently broke it
open so her child could escape.
A faintly glowing, glistening yellow-gold body dropped to the ground as
the hatchling creeled weakly. Kindraimanth lifted her daughter, gently
placing her between her front claws, and began to wash the sand from her
hide.
"Mother?
I, I don't feel
very good..."The hatchling
said with a cough.
Kindraimanth rumbled deep in her throat. "Don't
worry, little Barasth.
Let's go and eat, after you
get a good rest, you'll feel better."
Barasth nodded, and stumbled along beside her mother.
"This
one
is staying
with me." Kindraimanth
said to anyone who cared to ask, daring them to disagree. No one was
inclined to argue, anyway, and they left without further incident.

Note: Firestorm on Lantessama is a striped, faintly
glowing pattern on the hide of the dragon. Thus they give light in the
dark as a glowing dragon would (though not as noticeable)
