'Scareh come here will you?' It was her mother calling
her in. Scareh closed her book and walked inside. She wondered what her
mother needed from her.
Scareh was the only daughter of a howshold of 6. She had 2 older brothers
who had learned her a lot. For instance not to be so girly.. She could
manage herself in trees as well as in the kitchens.
She loved to read. She didn't do anything else but read now that her 2
brothers were out of town. She missed them both.
'What is it mother?' Scareh entered the house and looked inside. All was
very clean and everything had it's place. She foudn it anoying from time
to time.. If anybody replaced something her mother would just freak.
There were strange people in their home.
'Say hi to Mister and misses Marquish. And their son Asgard.' Scareh
stopped at once. She knew that family. They were the richest family here,
and their son was a spoilled brad. Scareh pulled herself together and
walked up to the strange people. She bowed for them and looked down at the
floor. She knew that this was propper for a girl her age. Never look into
the eyes of your gest; esspecially when they are rich and better than you.
She repeated that line in her head as she looked at the dark brown floor.
'So this is the girl I'm going to marry?' Asgard walked up to her and
looked at her from tip to tows. Scareh feld like a big hammer crashed her
little world apart. Scareh looked up, forgetting about the rules and
asked: 'What?' She looked in disbelieve at her mother and father. They
were imbarrised that she had done this and because of her love for her
parents she looked back down muttering sorry.
'You will marry Asgard 3 days from now. Scareh felled that she had been
torchered and beatn half to death. She had always planned otherwise. Not
like this.. She stood still waiting till her geusts went away. Then she
ran away as fast as she could, crying her eyes out. She was angry at
herself for crying. That woouldn't make a change.. She had to do
something.. But what. She sat still in a dark place where nobody could see
she was wrong.
What’s the matter?’ She Heard
a soft low voice ask. Scareh didn't want to say anything.. She wished he
would just go away. But the boy asked
again: ‘Why are you crying? And don’t think I will leave you alone
until I know what is wrong..’
Scareh looked up. She looked at the boy who was
kneeling next to her. His brown eyes were standing concerned. And the rest
of his body was ready to attack. She had always been jalous at boys. They
had to go to school; could choose everything in there life..
‘My parents have decided that I am to be married to Asgard.’ She
covered her face again thinking of it made her cry some more.
’I’m sorry… Is there anything I can do for you?’
’There is nothing that can be done. I have to marry him and force myself
to marrie him.’ Scareh muttered between her tears.
’Don’t say that. There is always a way!’ He almost chouted.
’I shouldn’t have told you this.. I’m sorry.. I have to go now.
I’m really sorry that I bothered you with it.’ She stood up and wanted
to leave but the boy took
her arm and pulled her close to him. She
feld as if she was protected and started
to cry. It seemed that she couldn’t stop. But then after some time she
pulled herself out of his embrace and looked him staid in the eye.
’You are the son of the boatmen..’ She said. ‘Give me a ship and let
’It isn’t that simple.. Do you know how to sail?’
Scareh knew that she couldn't sail.. And that she would
be killed within a few days.
‘What am I going to do then?’ She asked in despair. ‘I’m not going
to marry Asgard. I will marry who I chose and who I love!’ She had
became angry with the world and everything in it. ‘I rather die then
give him children.’ She shivered by the thought.
He was silent for a moment. Then he asked for Scareh's
’My name? Why do you want to know my name?’
’Because I want to help you.. But I first want to know your name before
I tell my plan.’
’Scareh.’ She said, not completly shure
she should have told him her name.
’My name is Ulf. Now I will tell you my plan.’ He told her about his
wish and longing for adventure. And that she should come with him. He told her that he
wasn’t as bad as Asgard. And if she really wanted to get away that she
should have to trust him.
After a long conversation she agreed. Scareh seemed to be convinced.
’Come back here over 3 days, that morning. Say goodbye to your family
and take only what you need. No more.’
’Thank you Ulf. You’re my gaurdian angel...’ She kissed him on the
cheek. She felt much better as she vanisshed into the night. They had talked for many hours.
Scareh went home and went silently to bed. But her
mother had heard her come in and said: 'I hope you will behave better when
you marry him.' Scareh lost the only bit of hope she had from talking to
Ulf. He was the only one who understood her and would want to help her.
'I'm not going to marry him! Scareh yelled and ran upstairs to her room.
'You will Scareh. Just wait 3 days.' Scareh heard how she locked the door
of her room and went downstairs. She couldn't leave.. She was trapped! Her
only escape was the window; but she would plunge to her death if she
wanted to escape through there. There was no tree in the neighberhood so
she couldn't klimb that.. She
The night passed slowly into the day. She had made a
plan inside her head. She would tell her friend that she was captured by
her mother. That she couldn't leave. Her friend came in with her food and
Scareh quickly told her the plan. She agreed to help Scareh. She silently
sneaked outside. But as she left the house she saw Asgard. He must have
come For Scareh it flassed trough her head. If the boy Scareh was talking
about could help her... Marline,
Scareh's friend ran to Ulf and met him.
As Scareh watched Marline leave she saw Asgard.
He came ,after 5 minutes or so, through the door of her room and looked at
her. 'I heard you've been a naughty girl...' His grin was so filthy.
Scareh was frightened; but stil she found the power to run up to him and
swing her fist into his face. But as she did that Asgard ducked and took
her over his shoulder and outside. 'I will teach you to behave!' Asgard
was very angry and now Scareh was even more scared. He bounded her hands
together and covered her mouth.
Asgard took her to a little shed behind the house. He trew her onto the
floor and wanted to hit her. She rolled away so that Asgard's fist banged
against the floor. Scareh heard a loud crack. But Asgard didn't make a
Scareh crawled away from him and grabbed the first thing she could feel.
She swinged the object as hard as she could against his face. Scareh was
blinded by fear and rage. She stood there catching her breath with
something in her hand that dripped with Asgard's blood.
Asgard ran outside, locking the door and yelled: You will be my wife!’ You will marry me tomorrow!’
It was still for a moment. Then Scareh heard a loud
banging on the door. She crawled as fast as she could to the far end of
the room. She dropped the object in her hast. The door opened and she saw
Ulf standing there. She started to cry. She was so happy he had found her.
Everything would be ok now... He walked quickly to her. They had to move quickly now.. He picked her up and swung her over
his shoulder. She was shaking heavily. Ulf ran in to the woods near
the house and there waited a few seconds. He took the rope and piece of
cloth from her hands and mouth and then she hugged him. He covered her
with a blanked that he had taken with him. She looked with her blue eyes
to him. Ulf could see that she was grateful. But as she wanted to speak;
Ulf heard some footsteps in the forest.
’What are you doing here?’ Scareh knew that voice.
’Leave me alone!’ Scareh screamed. Ulf didn’t think; just picked her
up and ran out of the forest straight to the harbour.
When he got to the harbour Scareh was able to walk
herself. Ulf took her hand and guided her trough the village to the beach. Scareh saw the boats getting closer every step they
Ulf saw the ship he wanted. He ran into the water but then stopped. Scareh feld that she was held back by a man. She feld a knife
in her side.
’Come with me.. If they catch you…’ Ulf didn’t finish his
’Stop there!’ The man said.
’I wasn’t running anymore!’ Ulf said then remembering that the man
had a knife on Scareh.
’Don’t come any closer or …’ He pricked Scareh in her side. Scareh jumped softly asside.
Ulf hassitated for a few seconds.
’Who are you? I have seen you twice now..’
’I am somebody very powerful. You don’t need to know more!’
’Why? I have a right to know!’
’Why are you talking to me anywa…..’ The moving had stopped and had
hit the shadow man with a bottle.
’Run Ulf.. Take Scareh with you and make sure she’ll be alright. I’m
Ulf didn’t want to stay any longer. He nodded to her brother and grabbed
Scareh. He practically trew her in the boat. He went after her in the boat
and they left.
They had stopped in different towns for some food and
drinks. Then they went away from the shore and into the open sea.
‘Nobody has ever come back from such a trip..’ Ulf said to Scareh.
Scareh was better now, she was over the shock but she wouldn’t talk
about what had happened that night. Maybe it was for the better…
‘It doesn’t really matter.. We can’t go back. So we can better try
it.’ She smiled at Ulf.
A day went into a night and a night back into a day.
Time passed slowly as they went further into the open sea. We’re still
not death.. Ulf thought.
’I don’t think there will be an end to this trip..’ Scareh had said
one time looking over the boat to the horizon. As far as they could see
was sea, nothing more, nothing less.
A month had passed and they still hadn’t reached the
end of the world.
’And you were sure that there is an end to the world?’ Scareh asked
’I learned that yes.. But I wanted to find out..’ As he said that he
noticed that the current was becoming heavier. It was getting harder to
hold the ship in the right direction..
’Ulf! Look there!’ Scareh jelled. She seemed a bit scared. Ulf looked
at the direction she pointed and then he saw it too. The sea stopped
suddenly reviling a black hole. Ulf gathered his thought and strength with
his sailing; but it was too late… They were sucked into the black hole
and a fight would have been useless. Ulf jumped to Scareh and hold her
close; protecting her for what may come.
They were pulled out of the ship and were spinned around and around. Ulf
had opened his eyes for a few seconds and he had seen his ship, going
around and around too. Where were they going? Ulf pulled Scareh even
closer against him.
As suddenly as the black hole had started it stopped again. It was a light
and warm day, no clouds in the sky. Ulf and Scareh fell in another sea and
there ship fell on a island. It smashed against it and nothing remained of
the ship. Only wood and the sail. Ulf swam to the shore and pulled himself
on it, with Scareh.
Ulf screamed for help because she was looking so pail. He couldn’t do
anything. He had fail to protect her..
Out of nothing 2 large creatures appeared one was green; the other brown.
They landed almost next to Ulf and 2 people jumped off and ran towards
them. They had a funny dialect; but he could understand them. They were
saying that they were going to help. They pulled them from each other and
Ulf was seated on one of the creatures, the brown one; Scareh on the
But Scareh and her ride were going in another direction.. Ulf started to
fight with the person of his creature. He wanted to go with Scareh, but it
went black before his eyes. The rider had hit him so that he would be
Scareh didn't remember anything. She woke up one
morning. She felt that her wounds were healing and after looking around
with no clear eyesight; she saw a man sitting in a corner. At first she
thought it was Ulf; but as she looked better she saw another man. He
looked calm and wasn't really frighteing. He gave her a letter. It was a
letter from Ulf. She feld a warm felling as she read the letter.
I just want to let you know that I’m really sorry for leaving you. I
hope you will forgive me.. I fought for you; but they wouldn’t let me
go. So I hope you will find it in your hart to forgive me.
That was all he wrote to her. She asked for a piece of paper and started to write
something back. It seemed that he was feeling guilty for leaving her. She
had heard from the strange man that they had to hit Ulf.
Her handwriting was a bit shaky; but that was understandably, she
wasn’t trained like him.
My dearest Ulf,
How could I be mad at you? If it wasn’t for you I would be married to
Asgard and be miserable for the rest of my life. I’m very glad you
wanted to do this for me.
They have taken very good care of me. I’ve learned a lot in the past few
There are draks here and they listen to people!
It would be so great to have one of my own. I love them already.
There are only 5 real castles and 1 that is being made. So
I was wondering how it would be to make the total count of castle into 7 in
stead of 6.
Wouldn’t that be great?
We could do it on the island where our ship shattered. Let me know if you
It would mean so much for me.
He answered another
piece of paper his very short answer “Yes”. Also that he thought it
would be a wonderful idea.
Time passed slowly being alone. They talked by letter
and her handwriting improved much.
