Welcome to
the Mystery Box!
This is the tale of a genius,
of a wondrous entity... of a psychedelic plushie. So what, I'm
crazy, but it happened. It's true! This plushie was made on a far
away planet. A planet people say called Lyria. It was a fluke
plushie really, no-one knows how it became sentient. But it did. Was
it the magic from the temple? from the creatures living in the
enchanted forest? Or was it a plot from the dark side? Who knows?
Fact is, it exists.
The story of how it got here is even more far sought and most likely
it is one of those stories people embellished on. No, I'll tell you
what I think happened. This planet Lyria didn't exist in a vacuum.
People got there through worm holes, through vortexes and by
magic... It's safe to assume not all of them stayed there after they
impressed a dragon. I think one of them took the plushie and brought
it to another planet. Maybe it received it's powers in the cross,
who can tell? Fact is after that first trip everywhere the plushie
went strange things happened.
It was lost by it's first owner and found by a ship's captain who
wanted to give it to his daughter. During his trip home the ship ran
in some serious trouble and only by a miracle did they reach safety.
At that time no-one suspected the plushie of course. They were just
lucky.
The captain went home, forgetting about the plushie in the rush. It
waited a year on the attic while he was on leave. In that year his
daughter, a small cheerful child became ill and faded. In what were
to be her last days the captain, for unknown reasons sought refuse
on the attic. There he saw the plushie, laying on top of a few
crates. Thinking it may be the last time he would see his daughter
smile he took down the plushie and gave it to her. She did smile,
and for many years after doctors wondered about her strange recovery
afterwards. A miracle they called it. But we know better now. The
plushie was the girl's companion until it was passed on to her
children and so forth. Her family was lucky those years, no
illnesses, no problems, no sudden deaths.
But there is always a time for leaving. And so it came that the
plushie again got lost in the universe. Twenty years later it
surfaced again between an alien tribe of low-intelligence creatures.
They lived in barren surroundings and no-one knew how they kept
themselves alive. Finding the plushie they suspected they had eaten
it's owner that must have crashed down not long before.
But we know better. The plushie finds who needs it.
The tribe was quarantined, probed and released in better settings
but monitored for any remaining cannibalistic tendencies. None were
seen. The plushie lay stocked in a government facility for years
until a scientist found it and smuggled it out to his children. An
uneventful period again for the plushie. The family moved a few
times and in one of them, they lost the crate containing the
plushie.
This is where we start. The box, sealed, with only a few blankets
and a plushie inside it disappeared and reappeared on a planet
lightyears away. There it was found by a wandering band of gypsies
who saw in the colourful patterns of the plushie one resembling an
old family crest. They kept it and prospered, once again rising to a
high status in the society.
But again the box after a while was lost... the plushie had done
it's job instead. But it was left with a question. Where to go now?
And that was when it picked up a signal. A sponsor-themed clutch.
Little pure creatures, like all the others had been, for it to
protect. Doing more then just keeping them safe, but also raising
them, being their guidance.
The plushie rejoiced and found it's way to the clutch through
several carrier holds and vortexes on a journey too magical to
explain to ones that don't yet fully believe. And now it's here...

Time did not
mean much to the plushie. But not too much time had gone by. Yet the
two charges it had picked up were thriving. The plushie had learned
in it's previous encounters that some setbacks were needed to help
stimulate children. So it gave but also held back. It could not
communicate, but both the lightly coloured drak and the darkly
coloured gryphon knew that the plushie would not deny their direct
requests.
"Icecream!" Impressionante begged.
"Strawberries on top!" Clouded Feather
of the Midnight added, already salivating at the thought.
The plushie considered this would not be too much of an indulgence
and suddenly two large helpings of icecream with strawberries
appeared.
"You're the best!" Impressionante
sighed, "If only you could talk."
"If only you could walk and fly!" the
gryphon added.
But some things could not be granted. To speak and walk and fly
would take up too much magic. So the plushie remained a spectator,
indulging small wishes and protecting from harm. Until one day the
time would come that they should part. In the back of it's mind,
already the plushie could hear the callings of others in need.
But just once it felt the need to give a message of parting:
"Fayre thee well, may your lives be filles with joy and prosperity.
And maybe one day we'll meet again..."
