Ryan and Lemath

HATCHING
Ryan stepped into the hatching cavern and waited. He wiped his hands on his shirt to dry the sweat that he was feeling. This felt like a very important time in his life. Inside the hatching cavern Gold Yuneth eyed the candidates for her eggs. Apparently she didn't mind him standing because she didn't give him a second look. 
Relieved Ryan waited as the eggs hatched and hatchlings impressed. A bronze hatchling emerged from it's egg and strode toward him without a doubt.
"I'm Lemath." the dragon told him.
"You're mine?" Ryan asked, feeling a bit overwhelmed.
"And you are mine." the hatchling nodded.
"Now take me to the food and they'll tell you what you need to know." Lemath directed.

ADULT
Lemath and Ryan studied the task at hand. They'd graduated from weyrling training with flying colours because they'd both been diligent students. And now they'd been asked to come back to help train newer bonded pairs. 
"So I have to just sit here and act injured?" Lemath asked.
Ryan spotted the hurt in his bond's words.
"Yeah, but it's for the greater cause. I know we wouldn't get ourselves in this situation. Remember we had to save the other rider before?"
"I do." Lemath answered.
"So suck it up and let yourself be helped. I hope we meet some interesting pairs so we can recommend them to the wingleader."
Lemath shrugged and waited. In the distance the first dragons appeared. They were led by a valiant female dragon. Lemath perked up and strained to get a better view.
"She looks good." he told Ryan.
"They haven't even gotten close enough to see how they'll help us." Ryan laughed.
"Oh, of course."
But the bronze dragon kept his eyes glued to that leading female and made up his mind to keep tabs on her. She wouldn't be rising at this age, but it wouldn't be that much longer and he wanted to be there. Who was he kidding? He wanted to win.
