Darkling Dawn

Ovi speeded on a rampage through space. She could feel something was wrong. Of course teleporting without setting coordinates might do that. She turned around and looked back. Nothing. Like there was nothing in front of her or even above her. Not that she could exactly see it, it was more of a feeling.
Finally, after what seemed hours, the telp passed by a viable planet. According to it's safety precautions it scanned the planet. It found no signs of mechanical devices, but it did find enough oxygen in the air and a good deal of vegetation.
Since the telp wasn't programmed to screen for lifeforms it passed right by the giant creatures that would have certainly be seen as hostile to anyone. In stead it stopped it's journey and dropped it's package off on a large valley.
Ovi opened her eyes and for a moment was dazed that she saw -that she could still see- colours and shapes and sizes. The planet she was one wasn't earth, but she hadn't expected to end up there. Why didn't they build these telps with an auto-way-back or something?
Ovi suddenly felt her stomach rumbling and realised it had been almost a day since she last had had food. Sadly her backpack hadn't survived the trip and food was not something she could retrieve from it.
Looking around to the fruit in the trees she wondered if it was edible. She went over to a tree and reached out..
"You must be hungry if you're willing to try that." a voice said.
"Actually I am." Ovi said feeling overly lucky for landing on an inhabited planet. She turned around and immediately wished she hadn't.
A large blue creature stood before her with whirling red eyes and teeth to snap her in two with one bite. She took several steps back, waiting for an opening to run to the forest were she prayed the large creature wouldn't follow her.
"Rigelth is hungry too, that's why I'm out here." the voice stated and then, "Hey! Where are you going?"
Ovi ran but was only a few paces away when she heard other steps behind her. She didn't know which way to turn and in stead ducked inside a small cave where she knew the creature wouldn't get to her. All the time she asked herself why the telp had landed her on a cannibalistic planet and what the statistics were for that to happen.
"Why are you afraid?" the now suspicious voice sounded.
"Are you wanted or something? What did you do?"
Ovi remained silent. Suddenly the light in the cave vanished and a now blue eye looked inside. Patterns of blue radiated all over the cave making her feel like she was under water.
"Rigelth wants you to know that he didn't mean to scare you." the voice said.
"Who are you!" Ovi yelled out.
"My name is C'rin. Can I know yours?"
"Ovianskina Lewin."
"What a mouthful. Can you come out? That talks a bit easier. I don't want to harm you... whatever you did."
Ovi slowly crawled out of the cave... it was hard to think bad of such a nice voice, though statistics told her that nice voices didn't correlate with nice behaviour. She carefully looked outside but refused to go any further than the cave entrance.
"Don't you know dragons don't hurt people?" the voice asked.
Ovi could now see that the voice belonged to a man about her age, maybe a bit younger with black hair and dark eyes.
"Dragons?" she dared to ask.
A flare of enlightenment lit across the man's face. "Oh you are from off world. Thos have been coming in more and more lately. Did you come from a dragon planet?"
"No."
"Right... or it wouldn't have been a very nice one would it. These dragons are very nice, but Rigelth was hungry, and now he's feeding so he'll be back to his old calm self in a few minutes."
Ovi nodded. It felt like she wasn't needed here... the man could be talking to himself for all she knew.
"Anyway, Rigelth got a good look at you and said I should take you to Darkling Dawn to get a chance to impress a dragon. We could really use some good new people to try."
Ovi got an image about people being eaten by the youngsters of these so called dragons -that by the way didn't look at all like the dragons she was used to from eating in the Chinese take-away houses.
D'rin saw the look on her face and added: "Nothing will happen to you! You get a chance of having a friend like my Rigelth with you."
Ovi shrugged. Statistics told her that she would be better of in the company of other humans... especially if they offered her a chance to enter their society. And she was still hungry of course.
C'rin clapped his hands when she came out and called back his dragon.
"You'll like it in Darkling Dawn. There's lot's of food and friendly people... and of course there's the dragons."
