First Snow of Winter

Part 8: Time for Memories and Morals
Lityan appeared out of the elsewhere and followed the two men to the ground. At first she didn't know where she was, but soon the place became familiar enough. A small chill ran down her spine when she saw the icy white walls close above her head. It was a sight she hadn't seen since the avalanche 2 years ago and she found that it frightened her.
On the ground Lityan almost ran to her two friends and felt a little bit safer with three dragons and two men around her, even though she had had to climb down from Nizryth's reassuring height.
"Anyone remember where it was exactly?" Chaltyk asked.
"This way." Ysvelt said and started walking.
Lityan clutched Chaltyks arm and followed Ysvelt with him. Their dragons stood a little way of, more to the side of one of the walls. Lityan looked at her dragon and silently told her to fly up and sweep the parameters. It could never hurt to have the dragons up in the air where they were at their best. Besides nothing could happen to them in the cave... though Lityan couldn't really make herself believe that.
"Chaltyk... do you feel it?"
"What?"
"I don't know... something awful in the air."
"You're dreaming." Chaltyk told her, a grin on his face, "We passed here every year remember? There's nothing wrong."
"I just feel watched."
Before she could elaborate on the feeling Ysvelt stopped before them and looked at a faint crack in the icy wall. The edges were a dark blue scarring the white surface and a glimmer of bright blue shone out from the depth of the wall.
"This is it." he said, looking somehow smaller than he was. Lityan stepped a bit closer and placed her arm on his shoulder. She wanted to comfort him, but this was a problem she knew he wanted to deal with alone.
"We will wait outside." she said
"Aren't we ..." Chaltyk started to ask but Lityan quickly shut him up with a kick against his shin. The two of them watched Ysvelt go into the chasm, his reflection coming alive on all sides and then he just vanished.
"Why couldn't we go along?" Chaltyk asked.
"Because he needs some time with her."
"You talk as if she were still alive." Chaltyk said, "I don't think it's healthy."
"What would you do if you lost me?" she asked.
"It's bad luck to dare the fates."
"And me who thought you had left all the superstition behind."
"I thought so too. Apparently IceLand just inspires people to the supernatural."
"I have felt it too."
Their conversation was interrupted by Ysvelt who came running back. He was out of breath when he reached them, his face red from the cold. With a cold and ghostly look in his eye he stood quiet for a moment.
"What is it?"
"She... She isn't there." Ysvelt said, sagging his shoulders.
"Maybe IceLanders found her and took her with them." Lityan said, though she didn't believe that herself. it was bad luck to move a dead loved one. No-one would take her.
"Animals?" Chaltyk asked.
Ysvelt shook his head, "They would have left traces..."
"Then how..." Lityan asked.
"Oh my God..." Ysvelt suddenly called out, "She was alive!"
"We all searched for her pulse. We listened for breathing. She was death Ysvelt.
"Then where is she!" Ysvelt shouted angry.
