Zindrel had been
raised on Tris'hath with her parents and had just recently struck out on
her own. Some of her siblings had gone much earlier, seeking places and
communities where they could be welcome. The thought had never occurred to
Zindrel that the early bird would get the worm. Why eat worms when you
like fish better anyway?
Seeking a place to live, she found herself talking to strangers, asking
for information on large bodies of water on their home planets. Finally,
when talking to a distant aunt - or something equivalent - Zindrel had
learned about the water elves of Lot's Labyrinth. A whole community that
lived below the water's surface... and a lot of space to swim.
Zindrel agreed to make her home there, for now she was by herself but the
future might bring others.... to fill all that space.

Loch Hathian:
LochHathians, like their LochNexian
progenitors, are a sexually dimorphic species. Like the LochNexians, the
males sport a long fin beginning at the head and terminating at the end of
the tail. Unlike LochNexians, they bear the standard eye horns and
shoulder plates of their Hathian lineage.
The combination of Hathian and LochNexian bloodlines has created a rather
odd creature. While no other species can rival it for speed in water or
air, it is absolutely helpless on land. The thick leading edge of their
wings serves more as flippers than the traditional Hathian wing spar. Only
the lower portion, that closest to the body, is flexible and elastic much
like the Hathian membrane. While they are technically capable of walking
with their flipper-wings, they find the act incredibly uncomfortable. They
much prefer to stay in the water or in the air.
Colour: LochHathians come in a variety of muted shades that range
from off-white to earth shades, to dark slate. While they haven’t shown
all of the Hathian colours as of yet, there is potential for a greater
colour range with later generations. They also sport an illusory ripple
pattern across their scales, which helps them blend into their
surroundings beneath the waves.
Size: Hathians typically range from 40 to 80 feet in length thanks
in large part to their long tails. LochHathians are expected to be able to
match this size range, but whether or not they will continue to grow like
the LochNexians do has yet to be shown.
Speech: LochHathians inherited the telepathy of their Hathian
bloodline, and the musical vocalizations of their LochNexian bloodline.
The result is a species that loves to sing and adores a captive audience.
Even if it’s just mentally. Some have even been found to communicate only
in verse.
Growth: At birth, LochHathians are extremely vulnerable. While they
can make verbal noises at this age, telepathy doesn’t develop until around
a year old. During this first year, they must rapidly learn to hunt and
fend for themselves. While they are protected by their parents, there are
many predators under the water, where LochHathians make their nests. They
do not surface and begin testing their strength in the air until they
reach the yearling stage.
Naming: LochHathians are named by their Hathian parent. There is
some consideration given to the musical naming habits of the LochNexians,
but typically this name can be anything of the Hathian’s preference.
Abilities: Aside from the telepathy they will develop in their
"teen" years, they also have limited breath weapons. Limited because some
things just don't work underwater. What would have been a fire breath
weapon has become a super heated water spit attack. This jet of boiling
water can be fired with pinpoint accuracy at an incredible distance. Some
also posses an "inking" ability, which is just another spit attack, but
with an acidic cloud this time. They do not have perfect pitch.
Bonding: LochHathians do not need to bond, but can develop one
given a strong enough connection. This typically takes time, so bondings
prior to the yearling stage are extremely rare. LochHathians will
gravitate strongly toward being part of a family unit, be that of their
own kind or an adopted family. They tend not to like to be on their own.

Lot's Labyrinth:
Lot's Labyrinth is a large area that starts out as a coral reef and then
morphs into a labyrinthine series of
caverns. Young Ocean Fae have to spend some time in this area as a rite of
passage. While not all return, there are never any remains found inside,
leading to the belief that the Fates are truly governing the maze and
relocating some youths they find especially promising.
Ocean Fae start out as true hermaphrodites. While they grow and learn,
they start to form a sense of self that will only emerge completely after
they have undergone the Lot's Labyrinth trial. Though some fae identify
strongly with either the male or female gender, there are also plenty who
remain undecided even after they're considered adults. Though there is no
social gain or shame to get from remaining a hermaphrodite, the biological
side of things means that these individuals are usually less fertile than
the ones who pick a distinct gender because of hormonal imbalances.
