STATS
Name: Farida
Gender: Female
Age: 23
Description:
Farida is a young woman of medium height and build. She has dark blond
hair that falls to her shoulders, brown eyes and fair skin. She often
wears earth-toned clothing as it suits her colouring and is practical.
Personality: Farida is down-to-earth and sensible. She has a
practical mind and is not someone who is easily taken by whimsy. She keeps
the greater good in mind but will not place it above her own wellbeing
(she's sensible not a martyr!). She believes in effort and experience as
being the way to reach fulfilment and as such doesn't like to be idle.
Family & Community: Part of a small farming community, Farida
knows not much of Alskyr. She doesn't mind this as she feels safe and
accomplished where she is. She knows everyone in her village and she is
known in the same way.
Pets: Clouded White-Black Trash Gryph Woemo (m) from
Birdie's Nest

STORY
Farida busied herself on the fields around the village.
She'd never left home so she could not verify the talk of travellers that
came with exotic stories of the many islands on Alskyr. She didn't feel
the need to anyway, she was perfectly content where she was. She had food,
clothes and she knew everyone in the village. The Caer and Aerie protected
them from dangers. She need not be a princess like in those stories her
grandmother had told her before bed. There would be no galivanting off
into forests wearing a bright hood, no eating lettuce from another's field
(without trading for it) and no jumping into wells. As if any sane person
would ever do such things.
A large shadow covered the ground and she couldn't miss the majestic
gryphon when she looked up. As protocol dictated, Farida returned to the
village. What tidings would the rider bring? Danger in the vicinity? A
change in rule? Farida joined the small crowd of gathered villagers and
listened to the chatter.
"Maybe they found out about John's distillery." one of the men whispered
before he was hushed up.
"Them louts from the Aerie wouldn't worry about that."
"Maybe they've heard about some robbers in the vicinity."
"What would they even hope to get from our tiny village?"
"I hope there's nothing wrong with the Arie Mother." one of the elderly
women worried.
Before the musings could get too wild, the gryphoner coughed for attention
and started:
"I was dispatched here to announce that a clutch of gryphon eggs is
available in Haven Aerie. Any who wish to try to bond can come to me."
Excited shouts and a lot of the younger folk hastily formed a line. Some
were chosen, others were rejected. Soon the ones who stood a chance would
be picked up to stay at the aerie. Some of those would return, others
would succeed. Farida really didn't pay it any mind.
But just a couple of days later, she was called out by one of the village
elders.
"You wanted to talk to me?" she asked when she approached the man. Though
bent and wrinkled, he was still very spry.
"I have a request."
When Farida did not reply, the elder continued:
"One of the young ones heading to the Aerie is very young. We'd appreciate
if someone sensible were to accompany him."
Farida connected the dots.
"And you want me to go along?"
"Preferably. You've got a good head on those shoulders and I know his
parents would be greatly relieved if they knew you would be with their
son. Especially to keep him out of trouble."
"Just who are we talking about?"
But Farida had a sneaking suspicion that proved to be true.
"Jemin."
Some days had gone
by and Farida now resided in one of the rooms of the Aerie. The roosts
where the gryphoners and their bonded gryphons lived, were on the other
side of the Aerie but she could still hear them. Wings fluttering, calls
made. The view from her window was amazing. Her chances to enjoy it rather
slim. Jemin proved to be a handful, even in an unfamiliar place.
One day she caught him sneaking a flitter egg. As she went to return it,
it hatched right before she could hand it back. A fluffy white-grey-black
clouded alis gryph sat in her hands and made eyecontact. Cold and hunger
ripped through her and she'd been told that there was no going back. After
a lesson in alis gryph care and envious stares from Jemin. Farida had
called her new pet "Woemo."

HATCHING
Looking around a bit uncomfortably as all she could do was
wait, Farida noticed Jemin's dirty shoes and clothes. Leave it to a young
teen to get dirty just minutes after he'd been dressed. She had no clue
where he'd found the mud since it hadn't rained in days. Either way, it
would not do to great the gryphons in such a manner. Farida inched closer
to tap Jemin on the shoulder.
But before she mananged that, a purple and violet owl-leopard gryphon kit
bumped into her legs.
"Mine! Hungry!" it squeaked.
Farida figured Jemin had just gone down on her list of priorities. She
just hoped someone else would help him.
