The First Movement
Chapter 1: The Beginning of a Collision
Lahranne tediously brushed her hair in front of the large-sized mirror
that had always hung in her room. She wasn’t a vain person, far from it,
but she believed in looking presentable, a thing her mother had always
tried to teach her. Now, the youthful princess, would look as best as she
could for their upcoming 25th wedding anniversary. Lots of events had been
planned, from a gala dinner to a full-fledged fair with acrobats and aan
animal zoo to commemorate the event in Rayjiankel’s history as the most
elaborate feast held yet. A week to remember, not only the love of the two
current rulers, but also the prosperity they had brought to the land with
their gentil reign. It was true that Rayjiankel had flourished in the
recent years after Lahranne’s father, Unsen had become king but a large
portion of that had been due to her mother Illianne’s wide connections
with several merchant families who had supported one of their own trade to
rise to royalty.
"Are you ready Lahranne?" A familiar voice asked from the
adjacant room.
"Just a minute, Mezanine."
The brown-haired companion of the princess, tall and slender with dazzling
green eyes, and truly the blond blue-eyed princess’ best friend appeared
in the doorway that seperated their rooms. The two of them had been
together since Mezanine’s parent’s, Lahranne’s distant cousines, had
died in an ambush when they were returning home from a visit.
Guilt-stricken, Unsen had insisted on adopting the young orphaned girl
Mezanine, bringing her up almost as is she was his own flesh and blood.
Under the care of both Unsen and Illiane, and with Lahranne’s abundant
friendship, the young girl had blossomed from a shy, saddened girl, to an
extravagant, alluring beauty who had gotten more than one marriage
proposal already. As with all young girls their age, the two quickly
started conversing about the young noblemen who would attend the feast.
"I’m sure Lawrence is going to pop the question to you,
Lahranne." Mezanine said with a huge smile and rosy cheeks, "He
was looking at you all through last year’s banquet."
"You mean he was looking at you." Lahranne laughed, honestly she
didn’t care about Lawrence, or any other young man at the feast.
"Are you still dreaming about your childhood crush?" Mezanine
teased, "That boy is probably long gone by now and has forgotten all
about you."
"He promised he’d be back for me." Lahranne pouted,
"Besides, he was so sweet, giving me his toy when I had
fallen..."
"From the tree you weren’t supposed to climb in..."
"and gave me a kiss to forget about the pain..."
"Which you didn’t feel at all since I had broken your fall..."
Lahranne sighed, "I know he’ll be around for this event. I just
need to find him."
"You don’t even remember his name."
"I do!" Lahranne called, throwing a pillow at Mezanine, "It
was Ruben."
Mezanine couldn’t help but smile at the princess’ dreamy face. The two
of them had gotten through all of life’s events together and though they
were complete opposites in every aspect of character, they genuinly loved
each other like sisters. That’s why, mezanine thought, that Ruben better
come or I’ll track him down and kill him for breaking his promise.
Nobody would ever hurt Lahranne when she was around.
A hasty, hidden sound at the door, alerted the two of them that they weren’t
alone anymore.
"Enter." Lahranne called with her clear voice, waiting for
whoever was outside to open the door and step inside.
