STATS
Name: Scherf
Age: 23
Gender: Male
Species: Anthro-Nothosaur
Class: Mage

Description: Scherf is an unusually light reptilian humanoid. His long slender body and tail are covered in white scales. His eyes have a faint red tint and he sports horns on top of his head that look like antlers. It's a trait that often occurs in his family but is seldom seen outside of it. Scherf has a peculiarly long tongue that he often uses to freak people out with.
Personality: Scherf is crazy. He likes to act out and trick people. The more he can scare them, the better. He doesn't balk at bending the truth and loves telling tall tales, recounting urban legends and spreading ghost stories. If he were human he would be a proper goth with an unstable personality who takes his persona just that one step too far.
Skills: Scherf can create smoky illusions. If he's not careful he will even trick himself.
Hobbies: Scaring and tricking others.

HATCHING
The announcement that the Mermay Mini Frenzy was hatching came during one of the many events the Refugium had organised to entertain the waiting candidates and sponsors. About half the spectators and several members on either side of the hydroball court scrambled to get to where they needed to be, leaving the rest of the people to either follow to watch the big event or go home.
The hatching grounds were abuzz with more activity than usual. Only a few clutch parents were visible above the surf; the glenn dragon mother carefully guarding her nest of eggs, wreathed in seaweed and sat between the crags of a rocky outcrop. The asandus mother and her fiery mate, chasing around their clumsy-footed liveborn offspring as they nagged Zeskod for extra treats from the feeding tables. The other parents appeared as silhouettes or bobbing heads just above the surface of the water.
Though the parents were different species and had laid eggs at different times, somehow the hatchlings inside knew that the time was there to hatch or be left behind. One after the other the eggs started rocking as the race to find the optimal bond or sponsor began.
"There's not many eggs left," said Odlam, gently petting his own new bond. He cast a worried glance at Scherf. Scherf might be a bit off his rocker, but surely there was still a dragon for him? For his part, Scherf didn't seem particularly worried - distracted as he was by so many new faces to play pranks on.
"I heard there's a massive monster at the bottom of the water," said Scherf, grinning broadly. "I bet I could sneak up on her."
"That's a terrible idea," said Kakera with a frown.
"It's probably not even true," said Eclisse.
"I'm going to find out," Scherf cackled. Before anyone could stop him, he took off at a dive. The water grew darker and darker as he swam, peppered only by blinking artificial lights. He felt the rumbling of distant minds and knew something must be coming up. How deep could an ocean go on a space station, anyway?
A flash of orange blossomed a few meters away. Ahah! That must be it! Scherf swerved to follow it.
A minute later the glow disappeared, leaving him surrounded by inky blackness.
Scherf frowned. "I know you're heeere~"
Nothing replied.
Something slick and long brushed passed his leg. Scherf's heart hammered.
"Where are you?" he snapped.
The orange light burst in his eyes, followed by a quick nip to his shoulder. He gasped and flailed around until his fingers hit the smooth length of a warm body.
:: Chiasmodei :: cackled a voice in his mind. :: I knew I could spook you if I waited long enough. ::
Scherf's worry petered into raucous laughter. "You got me good!"

STATS
Name: Chiasmodei
Gender: Female
Species: Betta-Dragonfish Dragon
Adult Length: 16'
Color: Teal-Blue with Pink-Purple Fins
Abilities: Telepathy, Underwater Breathing, Distracting Eye, Teleportation, Eternal Patience, Hunter's Mark
Personality: Chias is the perfect little lackey for Scherf. She's upbeat but malicious and loves making terrible decisions. She shares her bond's love of trickery and tends to go a few steps too far- and always with a cunning smile. Her sadistic nature is only tameable by Scherf himself. Chias is quite submissive and always willing to follow orders, even if those orders are to back off or go help someone out of a mess she's caused. She feels no guilt for her actions but isn't entirely evil. Chias' is always willing to share her resources with those in need and is actually quite generous.

ADULTS
"Caught you!" Chias grinned as a stain of black surrounded an unsuspecting ocean biodome inhabitant.
Beside the Betta-Dragonfish, Scherf snickered and laughed so hard that tears came to his eyes. The victim of their joke looked a lot worse for wear and would probably need to get cleaned at the sick bay since the ink they'd use came from some octopus-like creature they'd pranked the day before. The stuff was sticky as slime and had a slight numbing effect that, to Scherf, felt quite nice but not everyone would agree.
Unbeknownst to the two, their days of leisure were over as the powers-that-be on the Refugium had lost their patience for the unruly duo. A metallic voice over the intercom demanded their presence at some nearby office. Of course they ignored the message but only half an hour later they were rounded up and brought before the big-wig himself.
"I have gotten more than a few complains about you two." Janardan said, "I don't feel letting the two of you stay here is an option."
Truly not understanding the gravity of the situation, Scherf asked: "So what? Are you going to kick us out."
"Indeed I am." Janardan smiled, "I'm happy that you grasp the situation so quickly."
"We'll just go home then." Scherf shrugged.
He'd rather not go back, but it was home and he would be able to return to his old life.
"That's the thing." Janardan told them, "We feel that would not hit home the message. No, we're sending you two on a mission. You'll have plenty of time to think about your actions on the way to the place you're going. Now hurry along and my people will give you your assignment. And don't try to leave on your own, you won't be let off without my approval."
Chias and Scherf exited the office and were escorted to their rooms by the security team  of Rawori and Koper who left no room for escape and did not fall for the innocent joke Scherf tried to pull.
"What do we do now?" Chias asked.
"Take up a hobby to do on board of the ship that'll bring us to our destination?" Scherf offered.
