STATS
Name: Odlam
Age: 24
Gender: Male
Species: Anthro-Nothosaur
Class: Mage
Description: Odlam is a more
slender reptilian humanoid. He has dark blue scales covering his long
body, but his tail is oddly vulnerable. This was caused by an accident
when he was very young. His tail grew back but not completely. He has a
long, slender snout, bright yellow eyes and a ridge of spiky horns running
from the top of his head down to his back.
Personality: Odlam is intelligent and pretty much a nerd. He loves
to play with his familiars and is heavily into biology and nature. Outside
of his study groups he hardly has any friends (and most of those use him
for homework). Odlam is a bit shy but not overly so, he would like to
have more friends. But he would like to have them for who he is and not
because he acts like others expect.
Skills: Odlam can create familiars of light. His creations have
different colours depending on their purpose.
Hobbies: Odlam grows quite attached to his creations and often
plays with them.

HATCHING
The announcement that the Mermay Mini Frenzy was hatching came during one
of the many events the Refugium had organised to entertain the waiting
candidates and sponsors. About half the spectators and several members on
either side of the hydroball court scrambled to get to where they needed
to be, leaving the rest of the people to either follow to watch the big
event or go home.
The hatching grounds were abuzz with more activity than usual. Only a few
clutch parents were visible above the surf; the glenn dragon mother
carefully guarding her nest of eggs, wreathed in seaweed and sat between
the crags of a rocky outcrop. The asandus mother and her fiery mate,
chasing around their clumsy-footed liveborn offspring as they nagged
Zeskod for extra treats from the feeding tables. The other parents
appeared as silhouettes or bobbing heads just above the surface of the
water.
Though the parents were different species and had laid eggs at different
times, somehow the hatchlings inside knew that the time was there to hatch
or be left behind. One after the other the eggs started rocking as the
race to find the optimal bond or sponsor began.
A brilliant blue betta-dragonfish crawled up from the depths, approaching
the nothosaurs at a comfortable dawdle. His eyes glimmered as he caught
sight of Odlam's light familiars. He bobbed his own red-glowing lure to
catch Odlam's eye.
:: I enjoy playing with light as well :: he
said, slowing as he approached. He cast the group a cringing look before
sidling quickly to Odlam's side.
:: I'm Eurypharynx and if you have room for a bond
as well as familiars, I think you're the one for me. ::
"Oh... oh of course I do!" said Odlam, hurriedly embracing his
new bond.
STATS
Name: Eurypharnyx
Gender: Male
Species: Betta-Dragonfish Dragon
Adult Length: 22'
Color: Black-Blue
Abilities: Telepathy, Underwater Breathing, Distracting Eye,
Teleportation, Light Show, Eternal Patience
Personality: Eurypharynx believes in organization above all else -
a place for everything and everything in its place. He's fastidious,
keenly observant, and highly intelligent - but his keen mind is more
attuned to memorization than analysis. He never forgets the precise
placement of an object or the way a person's brow twitches when they're
nervous. This makes him an excellent hunter, combined with his eternal
patience Eurypharynx never misses a mark. Like his bond, Eury is rather
shy, but almost cripplingly so. He dislikes company outside of Odlam and
will be sullen if forced into social circles.

ADULTS
Eury snuggled closer around Odlam and brightened up a bit when Odlam made
the little pets of light and had them circle his light. The
Betta-Dragonfish dragon sighed happily. This was really all the company he
needed. But as he'd grown, a terrifying thought had occurred to jim:
"What's your home like?" he asked
his bond.
"Oh, it's below the surface, hidden in a trench. It's quite dark but
you get used to it. And there's plenty of people who can make lights like
I do."
"I'm not worried about the dark or the
depth." Eury confided, "Are the
people nice? And are there many?"
The thought to lie never crossed Odlam's mind: "Not all of them are
nice. Most are indifferent and a few are mean."
"That doesn't sound like a nice place."
Eury deducted.
"In hindsight it probably isn't." Odlam admitted, "But
where else can we go?"
"Why go when we can stay?" Eury
offered, "I like it here. I know it here and
there is room to hide."
"Can we just stay?" Odlam asked.
"I believe we can if we get jobs and do them
well."
"I think I could probably help around the marine biodome." Odlam
mused, "And maybe my familiars can help look for hidden
defects."
"I know a lot of quiet places people forget to
check." Eury added proudly.
"I'm sure you do." Odlam agreed, "Let's go see if there's a
job opening."
