True Chaos

How else could the True Chaotic Clutch hatch but in the darkest hours of night? Ersatz, guarding the eggs that had been made hers by way of DNA, stirred in her sleep when she sensed movement. Instinct told her that hatching was near.
From her own days Ersatz remembered hunger and a blissful warmth. She had known that there was life around her and that it was hers for the taking. She had also sensed her family, her mother mostly, still protective of her eggs though her attention had faded within moments after the hatching.
Ersatz had always craved that sense of belonging. An unusual trait in a True Chaotic to say the least. But when she had found Pidazzi, all her wishes had been fulfilled.
"Pidazzi..." she whispered in the mind of her bond.
"What?" Pidazzi asked immediately awake and up in a swift move of her well-trained body.
"The eggsss are hatching..."
"I'll alert Donriven and the Candidates."
"Leave him out of thisssss..." Ersatz hissed, "Because he'll warn her. She is ssuspicious."
"I know." Pidazzi said, "But their suspicions will rise if I don't alert him."
"Then go... but keep her away from my babies." Ersatz said.
Pidazzi stormed out and alerted the candidates first. They had to be present, Ersatz knew that. More, she encouraged it. Pidazzi wasn't too sure if they were for eating or for actual bonding... Ersatz had only bonded her when she had been full grown. Either way, the night would get her some entertainment.
When she returned, Donriven close behind her, the eggs were still rocking, though feeble. Some of the less evilly inclined candidates started to shift around, hopping from one foot to the other with a look of nervousness on their face. One look from Ersatz got them back in tow though.
"My babies weren't made for eggs." she told everyone.
"Will they be able to hatch?" a strong male candidate with feathers sprouting from his elbows and torso asked.
"They are strong, my kind." Erstaz said pondering, "We alwayssss find a way."
Pidazzi moved a bit closer to her bond, trying to get a more private conversation. But as she got closer she saw her true chaotic shake her head almost unnoticeable in denial. There were other mindreaders present. The red dragon maybe.
Pidazzi moved through the lines of candidates, making bets in her mind. There was a small group of three from earth. A tall cocky male who would surely impress if she was right to interpret the smile on his face as bloodthirsty and calculated. His friend was a little more nervous, but there was something about him that cried power.
"A magician." Ersatz said.
"Not afraid of the red dragon anymore?" Pidazzi asked.
"I'm blocking him. He's so easy to anger... he'll make one of my babies very happy." Ersatz crooned.
Pidazzi looked at the girl. Kirsten was her name. She looked so insignificant. Almost like she was just a piece of scenery. Pidazzi guessed she would be eaten.
Next to their group stood other earthbound candidates, though these were stranger. The son of the devil apparently, a vicious murdering bastard, who pleased Ersatz, along with his ice-demoness friend carrying their baby. Pidazzi grinned, she would have to go to earth soon to see what damage they would do with two true chaotic dragons. Maybe even the queen, Pidazzi guessed.
Next to them were the two other possibilities for the queen that was surely in the eggs. Ersatz had shown her the small, pulsating orb of blackness and told her without a doubt that it would hatch into a female. Jiress and Quil, sisters who had already been raiding their homeworld before they came to Lantessama for the clutch. Pidazzi had spoken to them, they were delightfully evil and vengeful. Jiress was the most subtle of the two, her herbs and poisons leaving almost no trace in worlds were there were no pathologists. But Pidazzi had liked Quil more, the thrill of blades, the smell of blood, Jiress would always miss that in a kill.
Next to them two shifter-males stood talking. Corvis, the raven-shifter, had spoken before. But Erloch had not. The young leader of the Taratus clan was here to bond as had his sister, his co-leader, in the Halloween clutch. He was young and easy to irritate, which mostly had deadly consequences as a certain venus fly trap had noticed when he had lost half his tail-leaves. But Evilness wouldn't have been Evilness if he too had taken revenge. Pidazzi smiled as she remembered the scream from Erloch's room after he had woken to find the snake-dragon wrangled around his neck. A very pleased Evilness had then slithered through the Isle, scarred badly from Erloch's claws, but still feeling his victory.
In the corner Kakan, the red dragon, was looking at the eggs. along side him were two young men who had been brought in by Brilliant Zaless. Pidazzi couldn't understand why they had been brought in. Maybe because there had still been places and they had shown up. Maybe because Zaless figured more food was always welcome. Pidazzi guessed the latter. The Sea Shadow was always considerate when it came to food and little dragons.
A little bit further, standing in front of the stairs was Raven. She had been the last arrival. Pidazzi didn't know much about her and neither did Ersatz.
When Pidazzi had finished her little round of the underground cavern. There seemed to be more determination in the shaking of the eggs, though that could just as easily have been wishful thinking.
About a quarter of an hour passed before the first egg broke. The strongest of Ersatz babies nearly made his egg explode when he had finally found the weak spot. Unlike what most of the people in the cave had expected there wasn't a dragon, or anything that remotely resembled a dragon, on the soft grinded sands of the underground cavern.
A fuzzy piece of darkness that seemed to swallow what few light was illuminating the cave jumped up, his long agile tail sweeping the air, knocking over a few of his brother's eggs to help them in their struggle out. His small burning red eyes scanned the candidates before he finally made his way toward the one he wanted.
"Corvisss...." it spoke softly, almost hesitantly as it opened ways of communication that hadn't been meant for him to use, but that his mother had proved could be conquered.
"My name is Merpasz."
Corvis nodded, vengeful thoughts coursing through his mind, though he couldn't quite guess what was so special about this little creature. A dark shadow suddenly coursed through his mind, digging up memories, almost feeding on the anger that flared up when Corvis relived them.
"Yes... you are mine." Merpsz grinned, little sharp teeth protruding from his smoky mouth. The expression on the face of the cuddly ball of shadowy texture was so horrible some of the humans around shivered for a moment.
The next egg to hatch was one that had been smashed on the ground by Merpasz. It's shell was dented and bruised, but it hadn't cracked completely. Though the bruise was enough for the large male inside to thrust his head through. The creature that hatched from this egg resembled Merpasz, though not entirely. This baby true chaotic had small horns and seemed to have a more erratic, pointy fur covering the blackness within. Without doubt the hatchling jumped-slid-walked to Malpsychan.
"Mmm... flames." it said lost in dreams, "Are there more nuns where you came from?"
"There are, Irszer." Malpsychan said with a flash of his teeth, "And we won't rest before we've killed them all. Maybe some priests as well, though I doubt they can scream as satisfying as a nun can."
"Like music." the hatchling said, following his bond out.
Inside Pidazzi couldn't resist the temptation to ask Ersatz: "Horns?"
Ersatz didn't answer, a clear indication that she most likely also didn't know what the horns meant. Pidazzi turned back to the hatching and saw that this time one egg was rocking more violent than the others. Within seconds it's black surface was cracked while individual pieces had been flung out of the way of the creature within, impatient as hell itself to conquer the world.
When the hatchling finally fell out, a gasp burst from Donriven's lips. Pidazzi smiled contently. The queen had burst open her shell. The queen that Donriven had assured Laedrys Trix that would never hatch from this clutch. The queen he had thought was impossible. Pidazzi smirked, like true chaos could be bound to biological rules.
With blazing red eyes and small, sharp white horns the female lifted from her egg. She had an elegance none of the other hatchlings shared with her, she in turn seemed longer and thinner, but just as deadly as her brothers. Pidazzi eagerly watched which direction the queen would take. When she saw she too was baffled. The queen had her eyes set firmly on her goal, the earthling Kirsten who had seemed nothing more than a plaything of her lover Serad.
"Kirsssten...." the hatchling whispered.
"I hear you." Kirsten said, "I really hear you."
"You hear Zafyrsza." the hatchling said.
Kirsten moved toward the hatchling and picked up the small bundle of cold delight. Now we are together, she thought, now I can be myself.
"Kirsten?" Serad asked smiling when he saw her go, still perfectly confident that his hold of her was as strong as it had ever been. In fact it was, just his control had never been that strong. She had controlled him.
"I'm going away now." she said, "I hope you lose...because then you'll die."
"I can't die."

"Just keep telling yourself that." Kirsten said before she turned her back to her old life.
"Outcasts we all are..." Ersatz thought absentminded, "Like me." the words flared with such anger Pidazzi nearly took a step back. Sure she had done her evil thing now and again, but Ersatz never had been this passionate. Pidazzi knew it all had to do with how she had found her bond... alone, fading and small. But Ersatz had survived! She lived.
"I live for revenge." the first true chaotic said, "They will curse the day they shunned me!"
Three eggs broke, the hatchlings finding power in their mother's anger. Three males crept out, one horned, two others without, but all with the red eyes that glowed in the dark. They were ready to feed. The three wasted no time going over the candidates. They seemed to have already picked their chosen bonds.
"Jiresss." one male said as he came toward her, followed closely by his brother. The two, the normal which had spoken and the horned which was attached to it since their tails were entwined, reached the girls.
"I am hungry..." the horned male spoke to Quil. "Where is this planet you burned down?"
"I think it still might have life on it." the other added.
"Fire kills, but also brings life eventually..." the horned, named Gweitsz, spoke
"We only take... we never give back." the other one, called Drintsz, continued
"What is dead..."
"Stays dead."

"Maybe we should go back." Quil smiled.
"Yes, they've bound to have recovered now." Jiress added.
"Why waste time..." Gweitsz asked.
"When we can go now?" Drintsz ended.
The four of them left the cavern to feed before they would be brought back to their own planet. Or any other planet they might decide on to feed their new bonds of. Meanwhile the other little ball of malignant fur had moved closer to the tiger-shifter Erloch.
"Erlochk." it said, swallowing the last sound of the name.
"Yes, Uzscem?"
"I am tempted to come with you... to taste the thrill of hunt and kill."
"Only tempted?" Erloch asked showing a rather graphic memory of a most satisfying prey.
"More than tempted..." the hatchling said, his eyes pulsating with lust.
"Come quickly then, we are expected."
The new couple also left the sands, eager to return home. Pidazzi thought there was a good chance the Finders would be exhausted by the end of the hatching. The three of them escorted the new hatchlings to where they wanted to go, making sure none of them got any ideas about killing of the transport dragon.
One egg crashed into the sand, sending small shards of it's eggshell hurling through the cave. When the small grey-white pieces came in contact with anything they seemed to just pass through it. Where would these pieces end up? Pidazzi wondered for a brief moment before she turned her eyes to the baby shadowling.
"Koldicssseeen." it whispered ominously, with a cold voice that delighted Pidazzi and Ersatz.
Though this hatchling wasn't horned, it spilled coldness all around. It was only natural that he had chosen the ice demoness to bond too.
"Berkansz." Koldiceen nodded, "We shall freeze where Malpsychan and Irszer burn."
"Desperation following destruction..." the hatchling continued the speech.
"Calculated, Crushing Ice without compassion."
The hatchling shivered with delight. "Let us go."
Another two eggs broke after they had left. The Shadow Cavern slowly getting empty as more true chaotics boded to humans. But not all of the candidates were humans, or even humanoid. When one of the hatchlings, too eager for his own good, tripped over his own tail, Kakan the red dragon walked toward him.
"You are meant for me." he said.
"Yesss..." the hatchling said, "I am..."
His little horns moving in delight on his head, sometimes even appearing in a straight line on his back, or perched on his hands. A trick none of the other hatchlings at shown before.
"Do you think you can break the rules?" Kakan asked slowly.
"I might..." Szwavel said, "But I'll need to grow first... and feed."
"I have no teleportation privileges left after this." Kakan said, fuming inside with frustration.
"I have not been to this Sanctuary... my way of travel is different." Szwavel said, again rippling his matter into new forms and angles.
"I am not big enough yet to take you with me..." he said
"Then we shall stay here until you are." Kakan decided.
"They won't let us."
"We will find a way." Kakan said determined.
The other hatchling, a normal male -if true chaotics can be dubbed normal that is- moved toward Nomed, the devil-worshipping, heart-eating magician. He glanced at Serad for a moment, but then cringed back as if he was beaten. Looking a bit stunned, the hatchling again turned to Nomed and stared at him for a while.
"I like the taste of blood...My name is Arscoz."
"Are you coming with me, Arscoz?" Nomed asked.
"Of course I am. If you're planning on sacrificing some more humans that is."
"Consider it done." Nomed said, he could always get some humans after one of Serad's battles.
Nomed took a few steps back out of the circle of light, but he knew he should wait for Serad to impress. 5 eggs were still on the sands, though they weren't rocking too violent. Suddenly however, three of them clashed together. they had been inching toward each other, intent on breaking their eggs on each other's shell. And now they were victorious.
The three hatchlings that fell out, all males, none of them horned, moved to different corners of the cavern. One went straight for Serad, making circular movements like a predator bird he moved closer. Finally he locked eyes with the leader of wars and found the memories, fountains of blood and suffering, that made it feel it had made the right choice.
"Helitsz." Was all it said, too overpowered by the memories as they, one by one, started to surge over the link of their minds.
The second hatchling took a more indirect approach. He waited around a bit, lingering, pondering, looking at all 4 candidates still present. Finally he made his choice, Alden, the traitor would be his bond.
"Alden... one day I shall bring you back." he said, "And then you will know the meaning of destruction. It is Qetszal"
"Destruction of whom?" Alden asked, tactical as usual and not about to go back to notice the true chaotic would kill everyone on the mountain peak he had left, including his friends.
"Whoever you let me... The bond is such between us that I cannot do against your will."
"Why?"
"You are stronger still..."
"Still?" that one word made Alden feel a bit out of his league. Sure he had an iron will, but what if this creature would grow out to possess something as powerful as a diamond will, speaking metaphorical. But the bond was made now, there was no turning back. If the final battle between him and Qetszal was meant to take place, Alden would make sure it was one worth watching.
The third hatchling, was faster to make his choice when he had finally freed himself from all lingering egg-debris and fluids, and went to Ebony, the last arrival. The vampire guardian who was still a mystery to everyone on the isle. She had made very clear that she was only going to stay for a short period of time and that she would leave immediately after she had bonded.
"My name is Wunelzstou." the hatchling said standing in front of her, only coming up to her waist. "Are you the one who will take me to my destiny?"
"I am Wunelzstou. And I can't wait to go back."
Another two eggs burst. The last two. The two hatchlings that came out, one with an exceptionally large tail, the other with big eyes looked at each other.
"We could bond to each other..." the first said looking at the two remaining candidates, Weljan and Muhas, with a look of doubt. The two winged humans hadn't shown any sign of evilness. Tollitszo didn't really find them interesting.
"I'm hungry..." his brother Kurmsz said, "I could go for human."
The two looked at their mother who crooned that they were free to do as they pleased. However, before they could devour the two humans, Donriven intervened. He lead the two boys out onto the beach.
"I think Zaless really did bring you guys in for food. I'm very sorry. You're welcome to stay for the normal clutches." He offered.
"No thanks." Weljan said.
"I think we'll just go find our friends." Muhas added.
Donriven nodded and left the two boys to see what had happened to the two hatchlings. He walked down the stairs, painfully aware that the silence was too intense. There was no creeling with hunger, no joyful sounds of bonding. When he entered the cave his fears became true. There was no-one in the cave but Pidazzi.
"Where are they?" he asked.
"Ersatz is bringing them to a place where they can grow."
"Unsupervised." Donriven said, trying to think of a way to not only break the new of the queen to Trix, but also the news of two unwatched and uncharted True Chaotics.
"Oh... They'll be watched." Pidazzi said grinning slightly, "They're off to bond."
"Bond?"

Pidazzi shrugged, "We'll get word eventually. Ersatz didn't enlighten me either."
With that said the hatching had ended.
