Wild Clutch 1
Donriven sighed and looked yet again at the eggs. Still
no movement. Slowly growing impatient Donriven once more turned up the
heat and the energy radiating from the lamps. It seemed strange that
animals as vicious as the black spirits needed light just to hatch. One of
nature's more charming paradoxes Donriven philosophised.
Suddenly a small struggle reflected in Donriven's eyes. One of the eggs
had stirred.
"Finally!" Donriven
exclaimed and rushed out.
Outside Pidazzi waited eagerly for the sight of the first shadow clutch.
It was her black spirit that had shared her DNA to make the eggs.
Pidazzi's story was quite unusual as it goes, she was the only one ever to
have trapped a Black Spirit into servitude. No-one but Pidazzi and Ersatz,
her female True Chaotic, knew what had happened between them. Neither felt
the need to share.
When Pidazzi saw Donriven emerging, his face set to the determent look he
always got when he had to act quick, she jumped up and followed him.
"Is it happening?" she
asked.
"Yes. I need to find the candidates."
"I think I saw them near the lake... some seem to like to see the
missionary man fish."
Donriven paid no attention to the curious words of the younger woman. But
he did turn to the lake, hoping to find at least some candidates, while
Ensith alerted the dragons of the upcoming event.
Only 15 minutes later the candidates had gathered around the cave
entrance. Pidazzi welcomed them and motivated them to run faster down the
stone steps with her excited cries. Ersatz of course was also in the cave,
though hanging from the ceiling, making it look like they were outside on
a stormy night.
With perfect timing the first egg snapped when all the candidates and
Laedrysses had entered the large cave. The first shadowling to emerge was
rather small, a winged male.
"I think he has the air genes I put in
there." Donriven muttered to Trix.
"Are there others?" Trix
asked interested.
"I tried some water and land genes as
well..., I don't know if they worked out."
"Where did you get land and water genes?"
"Remember the bunnies? I got the land from them. And those three
females from the summer clutch were all too happy to give some DNA from
their Atcydia's to me." Donriven smiled.
"Did you tell them what would happen with
it?"
"Of course. The one that got the Molotov cocktail, Nightwish, was
very interested."
"I can imagine."
Their eyes darted back to the Small Air Shadowling that was busy grooming
his feathered body. Finally he seemed to be ready to advance. Slowly he
passed all the candidates and stopped in front of the part wolf Matrix.
"You did what was right,"
the little one said, suddenly seeming to grow larger and more
vicious. "I
would have made him suffer more though."
Matrix looked down a bit surprised by this sudden blood-thirst. "Huldra,
" he said, "What I did was
only necessary. I didn't enjoy it." he said.
"That could still happen... I see I have
much to teach you." Huldra grinned, blood dripping from
nowhere on Matrix's hands.
As the first couple left the sands, the second shadowling hatched. This
one, another air male was much bigger. He took his time, considering the
candidates like an Earth would, though no earth would use the piercing
look of evil this hatchling gave the candidates.
"Cathar Rythm, I'm Delyk."
the hatchling said.
"Pleased to meet you Delyk." the God of Darkness and Despair
replied.
"I am very interested in this black magic of yours..." the big
said, "together, strength and cunning we will be unstoppable."
"I knew this was going to happen..." Trix whispered in
Donriven's ear, "Trouble. At least the previous candidate
seemed to be in touch with his conscious."
"They'll leave soon enough."
"Like Evilness and Hediru left?" Trix remarked.
"We could let Ersatz train them." Donriven suggested.
"What?! We don't know anything about the couple. For all I know they
talked you into building them an army."
"I would say no to that, you know that."
"Yes, but I also know you tend to forget the consequences when you're
working." Trix said.
The two Laedrysses were interrupted by another egg that cracked open. This
one revealed a Medium sized Land Shadowling. Two soft ears pricked the air
and turned around, identifying all the noises. Finally when it had found a
sound it liked it went to Tressen and said:
"How about some food for my belly"
"No problem at all." Tressen
said leading the land out of the cavern.
Even before the bonding of these two was over another
egg burst open and out twirled an air queen shadowling. The female, larger
and more certain then the males had no problem finding her bond.
"Kyara", she said, "let
me help you to find your desire."
"I will, Meliva." the woman
said.
From behind another shadowling came to the woman. Though this weak air
male wasn't interested in her. He was interested in the other spirit in
her body.
"Kendgy?! Kendgy!" he yelled
when he felt his bond, but couldn't see him.
Kyara was for once overpowered by her companion. He changed and could only
barely avoid the claws of the queen shadowling attacking the one that had
taken her bond away.
Again they shifted.
"Meliva!"
Kyara yelled... "If you hurt him, you hurt
me."
"I don't want you gone." she
said, eyes metallic red.
"I want miiiine." the weak
sobbed, a more draconic smooth tail protruding from the oddly coloured
feathers. They shone more orange then blood red, with specks of yellow and
white.
Kendgy appeared again, forcing Kyara back. "Medsyk...
I am here."
"Stay!" the weak yelled,
looking frightened at the bigger queen who seemed to be ready to burst in
flames.
"I can't stay around all the time..."
Kendgy started.
"No!" Medsyk yelled.
"Yessss!" Meliva spat.
"But I will be around often." Kendgy
said.
When the three -or should that be 4?- left the cavern another egg smashed
against the wall and revealed a snake-like body covered in feathers.
"Water?" Trix asked
Donriven.
"Yes. Isn't he a real Quetzal-Coatl
look-a-like?" Donriven asked proud.
"I guess... what's wrong with his
eyes?"
"I don't know." Donriven said now also noticing the
strange burning-white eyes that made the sea shadowling even more
different. They didn't have to wait long for the answer as the sea lifted
his body in the air and floated toward the missionary man.
"Sermillion!" he smiled.
"Yes Zaless?" Sermillion
asked.
"Can we go for a swim? I feel like devouring
a few fish." the brilliant smiled, "but
then, why wait... I'm hungry now."
Suddenly a splattering fish appeared in front of the brilliant who ate it
whole.
"I think they have prepared food for us,
Zaless." Sermillion said.
"I'm there!" the young
sea-snake said as he wrapped himself around his bond.
The cavern became rather empty with the previous 6 dragons gone. All eyes
were focused on the last egg in the clutch. Only one more candidate, the
spy Mormont, stood on the stone floor of the cavern. He looked, spying
with seemingly low effort.
A small crack appeared and not much after two ears and a nose pricked
through the shell. Another land found his way out. This land, almost as
big as the queen hatched earlier stepped to the spy and laughed.
"I can feel the need." he
stated.
"It is urgent." the spy
answered.
"Then why not fix it?"
"I need to think of your needs first now,
Lerion." Mormont answered.
The black nodded and looked around. "I think
that Laedrys looks tasty." he said to his bond.
Trix nearly choked when she saw the paw of the land shadowling was
pointing toward her. Donriven placed an arm around her and said: "I'll
stay around for the first few days."
Trix sighed, "I can take care of my own, but know that Pihst, Trone,
Eris and Telra will be looking behind corners from now on. They might like
it, thinking it's a game." Trix said.
"However did you get those two male rascals
to stay away from you?"
"Frynoth is watching them. She has taken a liking to them, especially
Trone who she thinks is a small version of herself."
"That little hyperactive flitter?"
"Don't let him hear you call him that. Or Frynoth for that
matter..."
