Wild Clutch 1
Standing
on the beach, the dawn light just appearing in the dark sky above
Lantessama Isle, five candidates were waiting for the first nekrat clutch
to hatch. They had waited long, but no-one had been really sure how long
it would take this eggs to hatch, and how the weather influenced them
laying so out in the open as they had.
Aquion,
being the only nekrat rider at present time, closely reviewed the
candidates again. First there was Akinna, a water-human just like himself
though he still felt a tinge uncomfortable round her when he thought of
what she really was. He liked her as a person, but she had a darkside,
that scared him. Still she was perfect for a nekrat, being able to spend
all her time with it in the water.
Wading
in the water close by her, were the Pernese twins that would return to
become dolphineers. Though they would not be in the water all the time,
they would be close by it at the least.
One
who would also remain close by it was Liiza, who along with her daughter
and daughter's dragon, lived near a lake where the nekrat would be cared
for. As he had understood it, the woman would not bond, but she would
care. Aquion thought that would be enough since these water-dwelling
dragons had lived solitary until recently.
The
last candidate was the one that troubled him. Aquion looked up and saw the
blue, finned star dancer about the size of a flit, flying above the water.
The creature did not speak, but it could make clear what it wanted by
telepathy, as could the dragons. It was related to them, but it was so
small, how would it be able to look after the nekrats? They ll grew to be
larger than the regular dragons on Lantessama...
Before
he could finish his thoughts, the first egg broke in half, a slender blue
form fleeing from it toward the open sea. It did not stop to look at the
candidates and was gone before more of them could see that it was a wave.
Aquion sighed, he had known this might happen, some of the nekrats
following the old ways, fleeing to the ocean where they would be safe in
the deepest trenches. Hopefully not all of them would or the hatching
would be a disaster.
Looking
at the candidates, they seemed to agree with him. Most of them seemed to
fix their eyes even more determined on the remaining five eggs. Wishing
them to bond.
Two
eggs sprang open, causing small fountains of water to leap from the
surface. These two, one a bright green seaweed, the other a second blue
wave, did turn to the shore, looking interested at the candidates. Finally
they swam closer, each picking a candidate they believed would suit them.
The
seaweed green female swam toward Liiza and asked: "Is
this lake of yours pretty?"
"It
is, Sondra." Liiza
answered, "You'll
have more than enough room to swim," she
continued and then, picking up the nekrat's thoughts, "And
enough new friends to fool around with."
"Then
I will come." the
female answered.
Meanwhile
her wave brother was leaping out of the water toward the star dancer,
playing with him, not realising the star dancer would never be caught
because he could always swoop higher as the hatchling jumped.
"Come
down please!" the
wave called, "I
just want to talk!"
"Promise
not to splash me?" the
star dancer asked, "I
won't be able to fly if you do until I dry."
"Why
would you want to fly?" the
hatchling asked.
"You've
got a point..." Tropico
answered, "As
long as you can get me back home..."
"I
can!"
Meowing
excitedly as the star dancer dove into the water, his wings becoming
equally adept fins, the wave male called out: "Ryunami
can bring you anywhere!"
While
the two of them swam out into the ocean, probably going to catch some fish
themselves in stead of taking the ones that had been prepared just for
this occasion, another egg cracked.
The
hatchling sticking his head out from that egg was darker than the ones
having hatched before. Her hide glowed a deep sapphire blue where the
light sparkled on it, but the rest of her was black, ready to hide her in
the deepest shadows. This hatchling, certain of who she wanted, swam
toward Akinna.
"Hello,
Akinna." she
said.
"Hi
Relaynah." Akinna
answered, "Do
you know what I need?"
"I
do..." she
said, "And
I see there is no way to change it. I could try to change you, but it
would get me nowhere. I shall take you as you are."
The
abyss waited for Akinna to respond, but she did not, looking about ready
to cry or flee.
"Get
me some fish will you." Relaynah
asked, "I
trust your judgement."
"Oh...ok." Akinna
said, swimming away to fetch some fish she hoped her dragon would like,
how could she know what the nekrat wanted?
The
last two eggs hatched simultaneously, one revealing a yellow-beige
hatchling, the other a black-green one with a rippling pattern on it's
fins. The Sand, a female by the way she acted, swam toward Sahra, the
Pernese girl, nudging her gently toward the feeding tables.
"I
am very capable of catching my own." she
said mentally, "But
I feel this is very important to you to make the bond, so hurry."
"Ok
Yaniva, I'm running." she
called out laughing.
"How
about you?" the
Well male asked Geghan, "Can
you be as quick as your twin in getting me food?"
"Quicker,
Jinuon." he
smiled, "Care
to place a wager?"
"I
don't bet." the
dragon said coldly, "You
have much changing to do."
"What
about your sister with that mer-girl? She didn't want to change her at
all!"
Giving
him a weird look, Jinuon answered: "My
sister knows not what I know, I shall change you and you shall like
it!"
Geghan
shrugged, hurrying after his twin to get some food into his irritating
well, maybe that would calm him down, at least he hoped it would.
Aquion
barely noticed the last two eggs bonding, he did nothing more than list
their names, the rest he would imagine later. In stead he stared at Akinna
and her Abyss, she had said she would not change her bond... Did that mean
there was no future for them? He wanted to, badly, but he did not want to
be afraid of her every time she started to become hungry. But how he liked
to have her close...
