Hatching 21
Foliage Obonixtenathramarth and Glowing Foliage Gwaith

Autumn approached and Green Obonixtenathremarth, Obo, felt that the hatching of her clutch was near. Good, because her arms, legs and wings had been itching to fly again. As an energetic, impulsive dragoness her patience had been stretched to the extreme. Her instinct as a mother and her character battling daily. She'd managed to keep guard over her eggs almost the entire time they'd been in the hatching cavern. This last week her burden had been lessened somewhat by her bond, Jeri and the father of her eggs, Gwaith.
"It won't be long." she announced to these two males, "They've started to move."
And together they started the draconic choir of voices that boomed all over the isle leaving no doubt about the impending hatching.
Obo had laid five eggs and in accordance, five candidates had been searched. These five, four humanoids and one surprisingly interesting sentient ocelot, now filed into the hatching cavern and formed a crescent line around the eggs. The eggs twisted, jolted, cracked and shuddered, but no lines had yet appeared on their outer surface. The people that had hastily ran to the hatching cavern were joined by more as time went on. Everyone seemed to be holding their breath for when the eggs would hatch.
"A crack!" someone suddenly yelled and indeed did the base of one of the eggs suddenly start quivering violently.
The disorientated dragon within made a last effort and soon he was laying, tail upward on the sand. He blinked and wondered why the cavern had suddenly grown so quiet. Stretching his wings he stood up and shivered as his mother licked the sand of his belly and head. Embarrassed he sneezed and then looked at the candidates who were waiting for him.
Only one of them intrigued him. Only one did he find interesting. Moving toward the weird creature he cocked his head and looked deep into the eyes of Aitor, the ocelot.
"I like your spots." the dragon said, "My name is Dormath."
"You can't ever go hunting with me." Aitor sighed.
"I'm too big?" Dormath asked looking a tad sad.
"You'll scare away all the prey with your glow silly." Aitor called.
"I glow?" Dormath asked surprised.
"You didn't know?" Aitor whispered.
"Well... he glows too." Dormath said pointing his tail at his dad, "It's his fault."
"You can wait at the entrance though." Aitor added, "Guide me back out."
"Oh, ok. I'd be important right?"
"Very."
The two of them left the sands.
A few seconds past before the next egg shattered, sending little specks of eggshell flying. A forest green hatchling stepped away from the remaining debris and looked at the four humanoid candidates before her. One was male and three were female. Turning away from the man she seemed to hesitate just a moment between Esme and Celi before finally heading toward the latter.
"Huavith! Huavith!" she called excitingly, "That's my name Celi!"
"You're very pretty." Celi said, crouching down next to her dragon.
Nudging her bond's shoulder with her nose the green flapped her wings in a peculiar fashion.
"I'm hungry." she whined.
"Well you were jumping." Celi shrugged, leaving the sands behind her little bond.
Another egg hatched, breaking neatly in half and a tall, but slender obsydian dragoness rolled out. Sitting up she too was licked clean by her mother before heading toward the only candidate that had registered in her mind.
"Esme." she said.
"Lorestath?" Esme tried, the usual energetic dark-skinned elf looked rather nervous at this point.
"You got it right." the dragon grinned, "I know we'll go far together."
The last two eggs broke and a gasp went through the audience. One of them was a second glowing hatchling. The female nebula had a rich violet colour. With her noticeable appearance she took almost all of the attention away from her brother, a rayant male who did not like it at all.
Bugling he rushed toward Pitros, one of the two candidates left.
"I won't let her steal the show." he said determined, "My name is Leucosth!"
"I'm sure everyone heard." Pitros said, tapping the dragon's shoulder.
"They should."
"Are you hungry, Leucosth?"
"I'm very hungry." the glowing nebula told Mara.
"Are you now, Rizoath?"
"I need to gain strength to start working on my mission." the dragoness nodded.
"A mission." Mara called out delighted.
"I'm a beacon after all." Rizoath shrugged.
Obo watched as the two of them left with their bonds together. She too wouldn't leave alone. Jeri was there for her after all. Together they might stick around a bit to see her children grow. That is if she could convince her bond of the importance of it. Stretching her stiff limbs she stood up and signalled her bond that she felt hungry as well.
