Hatching 3
Green Jybarith
and Crestless
Blue Switamth
Close after the candidates had left the Sands after
Zaranyth's clutch Jybarith let out a squeal of joy. her eggs too were
rocking. She started humming to encourage her children to come out while
she screamed inside for her lifemate Switamth to go find her
suitable candidates.
The Crestless Ryslen Blue soon flew in and took his perch right next to
Jybarith.
"Where are my candidates? You were supposed
to bring them!"
"Gido is working on that."
Switamth said, cleaning his wings.
"But they'll be hatching soon. I can't
wait." Jybarith told him.
Leen smiled when she heard her dragon harass Gido's blue like that. She
had gotten quite irritated from sitting on the hot sands so long. Another
five minutes past while Leen kept her cool... but when the eggs started
cracking and black patterns started to appear on the soft ecru eggs she
too started panicking. Leen ran to the entrance of the Sands and looked
out.
"They're hatching NOW!!" she yelled and was rewarded by seeing a bunch of people run toward
her.
"Are we in time?" Gido asked.
"Barely, what took you so long?"
"Finding them. Let's get in." He
pushed Leen back into the huge cavern and led her to a seat in one of the
front rows.
The bonders arranged themselves around the eggs, eager to see it all from
this close. Nothing was really happening though. After their first
outburst of activity the eggs lay quiet again. Jybarith looked at her eggs
and snorted.
"Come on!" she thought, "You're
not keeping me here any longer!"
That private reprimand worked wonders as all eggs started rocking again.
The bonders stopped their whispering and soon the eggs were silent again.
Only the soft efforts of baby dragons in their eggs sounded.
With a large crack the first managed to get out. The egg lopped sideways
and the hatchling rolled a bit over the sands before he came to a full
stop at the feet of a candidate. Valkoinen reached down and helped the
hatchling up, smearing away the soft orange sand and revealing the true
colour of the hatchling. Blue.
"Thanks, V'nen." the
hatchling said, looking into his bond's eyes with deep devotion.
"It was nothing." V'nen managed to
get out.
"It was everything." The
blue insisted, "My name is Sternth and I'm
hungry."
Jybarith relaxed as her first son left the sands. This would be her first
and only clutch and she wanted her babies to bond well.
"They will be fine."
Switamth interrupted.
Jybarith was ready to give a cranky reply when another two of her eggs
burst open. Two females this time. A light Vanilla cream, Jybarith noted. Ice-cream
had only recently been imported on the Isle and she loved it, though Leen
wouldn't give her much.
The cream made her way fast to the Earth girl called Astrid. The girl
couldn't believe her luck. They had told her it was possible she wouldn't
impress the first time around and now this lovely cream coloured hatchling
was running toward her. Happy to see her.
"You are here!" Astrid heard
in her head. "I like you."
"I like you too,...Ravith." Astrid
said.
Having waited patiently for her sister to hatch, the second hatchling, a
small purple made her way to her chosen. Zeni, the dancer from Gremyne.
The young trendy female looked at the purple and finally said: "You
are Klip?"
The purple dragon nodded. Silently, only heard by Zeni she also said: "Did
you like Nadine?" As Zeni looked shocked at the little
dragon, Klip winked and pulled her bond off the sands to the food tables.
Next to hatch was a soft blue. His entry into the world was so silent not
many candidates even saw the small blue shadow making it's way to them
from the cavern walls. One did. Dacien felt the hairs in his neck rise. He
turned and saw the blue sitting behind him. His gold firelizard Cerelia
looked down from his shoulder and sighed at the thought of sharing her
owner with yet another blue.
"What's your..." D'cien started.
"I'm Snith if you must know."
the blue answered.
"Of course I must know, I'm your bond,
otherwise you wouldn't be speaking to me."
"True..." the blue admitted,
looking a bit confused.
"I can bring you to the food..."
D'cien told him in a soft seducing voice.
"Oooh!" Snith leaped up and immediately
after regained his pose of mysterious deepness, or whatever had to pass
for that as he said: "Well, I think you will
do."
While these two left the Sands unnoticed by the other waiting bonders,
they were only seen by Jybarith who enjoyed having a son who could act...
though he needed practice. She turned back to the eggs and watched as
green made his way out.
The green male happily darted over the sand, crooning at his chosen. The
math-miracle Prien didn't have time to dart out of the way. The male green
collided with him, pushing him down. The next thing Prien knew he was
wrapped up with soft wet wings and tiny strong arms wrapped around his
body. The soft blue eyes of the green looked down into his and he heard:
"I'm Bernoulli, this math stuff seems
fun."
Prien hastily got up as the green released his grip. He remained at safe
distance while they left the sands, talking about probability and algebra.
The last bonder remaining on the sands was Olga, the philosopher. She had
watched the hatching, feeling a bit scared and insecure about herself. She
knew all there was to know about people like Descartes and Heidegger, but
these hatchlings seemed so unreal to her. She walked over to the last egg
and looked down. It was rocking fast. Suddenly it burst open and a small
black creature fell to the floor. The female black's eyes opened wide,
they were green, and looked deep into Olga's soul.
"Do you like me?" she asked.
"Oh yes." Olga whispered, suddenly
aware that she could do this.
"Then I am Nynive, your dragon."
she answered.
Jybarith sighed as the last of her children left the sands. She was tired.
As tired as on the day she had hatched herself. For months she had wanted
to leave the hatching cavern and now she wanted to stay for just one more
day. To think...
