Imbur checked on the egg she'd been given. It was not unusual for new species to be brought to Gineya Isle, a sanctuary for species that were rare or endangered. Although as Imbur understood is, Broadback Sickletail dragons weren't exactly rare. But one did not refuse a gift. And since the species was mostly aquatic and grew large, Imbur had been tasked with tending to the egg. One did not refuse the administrators.
Luckily Imbur had help from the friendly Atcydia who lived in Cyan Nights Cove and the egg had soon been pampered with everything the sea dragons could imagine would help a hatchling grow. Soft seaweed and sand formed it's cradle, plants and fish were plentiful, and if needed would be brought closer and there wasn't an hour that went by without some friendly contact in the form of brushes and nuzzles.
When the egg finally hatched, the resulting dragon was a bit different from the Atcydia. The hatchling had four flippers, not two, and back fins that closely resembled wings. His twin rows of sharp teeth made clear that he would prefer fish over plants, but his temperament was mostly placid if a bit distant. Imbur quickly told the Atcydia to tone down their well-meant prodding and that seemed to help.
Though quiet by nature, Vipix did manage to communicate his wants and needs.... and mostly that was just to be left alone in peace to laze the day away...
