STATS
Name: Yuvuurei
Gender: Male
Species: Miner Daemon
Place of Origin: Avangaea
Description: Miner Daemons have twelve limbs: Four walkin'-limbs, two for the wingish-things along their backs, and six that end in scythelike pick style things. These are very strong, and can pick away at rock. The horn on their faces is also very strong, and can serve the same purpose.
The gemstone or gemstones that they look like are, well, mostly cosmetic, though they may have a vague affinity for the particular type of gem. All miner daemons, however, can sense vibrations through solid matter and interpret them in a quite sophisticated manner. They're often able to tell if there's a vein of precious ores or stones inside a solid rockface, or if there are dangerous faults that might threaten a mining operation. The tentacle-whiskers on their faces aid with this by touching the rock and sensing the vibrations -- they're very sensitive, and a miner can get pretty pissed off if you hurt one of their whiskers. They also have a number of hearing organs along their sides -- look closely, you may see a series of small dots. That's them. As such, they have exquisitely sensitive hearing, and may not like being in loud places very much at all.
Colour: Ammolite
Size: 2-5' at the shoulder, 20-39' long
Personality: Playful, competitive, inquisitive.
Abilities
*Genetic Influence on their own offspring (to some degree)
*Magic-Leeching (from magic-users, spells or anything else that stores magic)
   *Telepathy
   *Tremor Sense
*Bioluminescence (their eyes and fringe casts light via natural bioluminescence)
Important note on mating: Love is an addictive drug to Daemons, and withdrawal (getting dumped, their mate dying, whatever) can get nasty. The more drastic cases can end in death, oh my! Anyways, this makes them more prone to taking a pragmatic approach to child-bearing and -rearing. They probably won't have any qualms about mating with friends if they want kids, though they understand that reproduction and romantic love are tied for most species. The nicer ones will respect this. The dicks will mock it.

STORY
Yuvuurei entered the cave and his tentacles twitched in the shift of pressure. Keeping to the stone walls, he let the sensitive appendages pick up the telltale vibrations that meant gems were present. It seemed he was too late. There were holes in this mountain and vague traces of gems, but only leftovers. Others had mined what this place had to offer.
Another dragon ducked in the cave and Yuvuurei lost his concentration.
"Oh, I didn't know this cave was taken." the green and brown dragoness said.
"It's not taken. I was just checking for gems." Yuvuurei replied.
The Miner daemon turned to the hydra-hybrid and noticed her eyes shone like a diamong. His own eyes and fringe glowed in response, casting a cozy glow across the cavern that made it look more welcoming than it maybe was. Anawen in response felt a bit nervous and started to rant:
"I recently lost my bond and am looking for a nice place to stay. But it's been a difficult search..."
"I'd think this place is a bit lonely for someone like you." Yuvuurei retorted.
"Oh.... well lonely feels not so bad. I need some time to grieve."
"Apologies, I did not want to remind you of your loss. But don't worry; I was just looking for gems and the mountain has been stripped so there is little here that would make me want the cavern."
"Hmm." Anawen cast her own senses around, "The remnants of those who mined are still here."
Yuvuurei seemed not to understand so Anawen released some of her magic and suddenly a skeletal hand popped out from the wall. The rest of the body followed. Yuvuurei approached, but then the body dropped as his magic-leeching disrupted Anawen's magic.
"Interesting." he said.
"I learned from my father." Anawen explained, "Some are unsettled by it."
"Nothing ever truely dies." Yuvuurei replied, "It only transcends."
Anawen smiled, "That's a nice thought."
"I know, how about we play a game? I've heard of a game called chess but the pieces are too small for me. Having playing pieces that can move on their own with a command would be a great way to play."
"I think I know of it." Anawen nodded, "We'll need a board to play though."
Yuvuurei was already ahead of her, tracing his many spike-like limbs across the floor, etching out perfect squares. The two dragons then discussed what pieces to use, which rules to play by and other such technicalities. Anawen would revive the necessary pieces while Yuvuurei would dispose of them with his leeching ability, which in turn would give him enough of Anawen's magic to order his own pieces around.
Late into the night they played and then into the following day. While they played they talked. And while the talked they got to know eachother. While Anawen sought relative solitude, Yuvuurei was too sensitive to stay among large groups. Despite his love of games he'd never found anyone who could take his competitive nature, but Anawen never seemed to mind his gloating when he won.
Time passed and at one point, both of them realised they were now living in the cave and quite happy to be there.
