right for her mindset. She doesn't like to travel, enjoys thinking and
generally doesn't need to be among people. She is crafty and has good
common sense that usually alerts ehr when someone is being fishy.

The guardian stood at the edge of the water. Borealis wished to pass. But
the annoying female half ork would not budge. There were of course a
number of ways for Borealis to slip past her. He could teleport to the
other side. He could manipulate the light to confuse her and stride by. He
could cloak himself in invisibility and elude her. But it was the
principal of the thing. He was a hydra prism beast with four heads and all
the glittery opal glory that had come with his heritage.
Some would maybe look down upon him because he couldn't fly, but Borealis
wouldn't mind those who underestimated him. That miss was on them. Some
might feel he was a bit too prideful of himself, but again they would
underestimate him. But this woman just ignored his presence after she had
kindly instructed him to return when he had the money to pay to cross the
bridge. Being ignored wounded his pride.
So Borealis observed. He planned and he theorised. He ran through his
options and considered all possible routes. One thought struck him with
clarity: the ork would be a powerful ally to be had. And if they were
friends, she might let him pass.
"Fair lady." Borealis
started.
Rugha returned her eyes to the hydra prismbeast and could barely hide her
grin at the peculiar address. No-one had ever called her a 'lady".
She did however like the change in attitude that the dragon displayed.
"You may call me Rugha." she replied.
Borealis grinned as exchanging names was about all it took to get his plan
to work.
"Borealis Auradance, might you be interested
in becoming my friend?"
Rugha considered. She did not have a lot of friends. She wasn't exactly a
people person an she preferred her peace and quiet. But this dragon did
light up her world and she had quite liked his presence near the bridge.
"I would." she acquiesced.
"Would you allow me to pass as a
friend?"
"Hmmm....No." Rugha admitted, she had a job to do after all,
"But I might loan you the money."
Borealis perked up after her solution and felt the sudden urge to reward
her.
"I could bring you something when I
return." he offered.
"A story of your day would be nice." Rugha told Borealis, after
all the dragon did not have money and would probably not be able to buy
anything anyway. But she would love to hear all about it.

Borealis had made many trips across the Nexus, but somehow he kept
returning to the bridge where his friend worked. Rugha in turn had not
expected the dragon to actually keep up his promise of them being friends.
She had come to enjoy his stories more than she'd let on.
"Today I must inform you that I might be
away for a while longer." Borealis said in his usual
overbearing speech.
"Are you off on an adventure?" Rugha asked.
"Of sorts. I will join a mating flight. I
might have responsibilities when I win."
"I'll be here waiting to hear how it went. Thanks for letting me
know."
They talked about recent affairs a bit longer until it was time for
Borealis to leave. Rugha waved as the dark dragon disappeared in a flash
of light and wondered if he'd truly win. He was the only dragon she knew
so he just might. But if he didn't, she'd make certain to listen to him
and support him. Maybe she should make an effort to have some treats
around for next time he visited.
