Lennerd leaned out of the little boat on wheels and looked across the
rocky desert. His sails hung limp and there was not a sign of life about.
The explorer had sailed the oceans and had felt ready for a new
experience. Someone had told him about crossing the deserts by windboat
and somehow Lennerd had been convinced it would be a breeze. Maybe it
would have been if said breeze had been present.
The sailor got out of the boat and started pushing it toward the shelter
of some large rocks. Shade was a necessity, he still had quite a bit of
water and food in stock but this delay could not drag on too long of he'd
be in serious trouble. There were supposed to be regular villages and
trade posts, erected around water sources, but he had yet to come across
one.
Dragging out his map, sextant and numerous other navigational equipment
Lennerd set out to determine his position and to start determining a
course for when the wind picked up.
Day faded into evening and Lennerd looked up as the glorious sunset
coloured the sky orange, pink and purple. Almost as if answering his wish,
a breeze picked up, tangling his hair.
"Please be here in the morning still." Lennerd prayed because
trying to travel at night would be too dangerous.
"Is that an invitation to spend the night
together?" a silent reply came.
Lennerd looked up and took a few moments to realise that some of the
sunset didn't quite match. A purple dragon with orange spots and feathers
detached from the sky and settled down next to the fireplace Lennerd would
soon be lighting. The orange spots seemed to glow in the dusk and the
dragon made themselves at home.
"I was praying to the wind, actually." Lennerd explained,
"But you're certainly welcome to share my fire."
"Wonderful. I was getting a bit lonely, travelling
by myself."
Lennerd and Idaea Muricata talked, introducing themselves and exchanging
stories. They shared food and water and grew closer.
"If it's wind you need then I can definitely
supply it." Idaea finally said, feeling they might travel
together longer.
"You can manipulate wind?" Lennerd asked.
"I can do so much more, but that would be
the trait you're most interested in, yes."
Lennerd grinned, "There's nothing more crucial to a sailor."
Idaea was hatched at the

FLIGHT
A couple of years later and on another adventure, Idaea suddenly picked up
a peculiar feeling from their companion. A yearning for offspring that
Lennerd had never previously disclosed. The feeling had come when they'd
met some local children. One of them had resembled Lennerd so Idaea
presumed that was the cause of the feeling.
"Would you like to mother a youngling?"
Idaea asked.
Lennerd laughed out loud, "I wouldn't be able to. Maybe I have
fathered a child in the past but I wouldn't know."
"How odd that you cannot decide which you
want to be." Idaea remarked.
"So you can mother and father?" Lennerd asked.
The explorer had never stopped to ask about Idaea's reproductive organs.
He'd just assumed Idaea was male and had not inquired further.
"How does that work? And how can you be certain that you father a
child?"
"When you charm another and breed them, you
father children. When you charm another and they breed you then you mother
a clutch. It's not that hard." Idaea said plainly.
"Humans don't always conceive." Lennerd explained.
"Ah, I should have guessed, there is already
plenty of you around but there could be more if it went like
dragons."
"I don't even want to imagine that." Lennerd shook his head.
"How about I show you our way? I've heard it
can be pleasant for our companions too."
"Why not?" Lennerd answered, it was after all another
adventure.
