Dawning Love: Cy Dragonstake Flight

Chaltyk nervously combed his fingers through his beard again. Today was the day. There would be no more 'maybe tomorrow's, no more delays. He had waited long enough... at first because Lityan had seemed so young and unwilling, later because Ysvelt had been grieving his Greyne and Chaltyk and Lityan with him. But a man could only fool himself for a certain amount of time. That time had passed for Chaltyk.
He looked into the mirror that was as good as any polished piece of ice though this one was made of metal and examined his face. As usual he was wearing one of his pairs of sunglasses he had discovered at Ryslen. The reflecting glasses protected his eyes from the bright sun and more importantly they made him look calm and ready to take on the world. His mouth, covered under a beard reaching down to his waist twitched for a moment at the thought of telling Lityan about his feelings for her. Maybe back in IceLand, only half a continent away, which was the closest he had been to it since he had been searched, Lityan would have agreed to a marriage. But now she was a woman of the world, nay of the entire Universe. Maybe she wouldn't be satisfied with him now that they had dragons.

Lityan sat on her bench. She was sure she wouldn't be able to take it any longer. Again she remembered the words Greyne had spoken to her on that last night in the winter village. She had been sure Chaltyk had feelings for her as she had had for them. God, that man had been able to annoy her...
Carefully she looked around in her cave. The bare rock had been somewhat hidden behind furs and tapestries with her bow and arrows and a long throwing spear hanging in the corner. She'd had plenty of time to keep in shape and the multitude of game found in the vast forests on the main continent had surprised her.
Thinking back to IceLand she felt a pang of sadness. They had been gone for so long. In IceLand everything would have been different. Would Greyne come back to life if she wished to go back? Would she and Chaltyk quarrel again over who was the best hunter while Ysvelt shook his head in despair? Would Chaltyk finally ask her?
"No more..." she thought, "Tonight I'm asking myself, tradition or not. And he better say yes... I've been cooped up way too long."

"She's at it again." A purple voice sounded in a brown ear.
"The same here." the brown voice answered the purple.
"Maybe they need our help." Nizryth proposed.
"I don't want to interfere." Xersenyth answered.
"You NEVER want to interfere... I say we propose a flight. You would be a good catch."
"I'm supposed to do the catching." Xersenyth mused.
"Wouldn't you catch me?" Nizryth asked.
"Of course I would," Xersenyth was fast to reply, he knew better than to enrage his proddy friend...
"Why do you think I'm proddy? All this waiting... Humans! Who needs em?"
"We do, so shut up." Xersenyth whispered when he saw his rider enter the cavern they shared. He had to admit his large dragonheart jumped at the thought of Nizryth's purple hide laying against his' at night. There was still more than enough room on his sleeping bench.

That night two dragon watched with weary eyes as once again their riders sat together, talking and feeling, but never talking about their feelings. Being a dragon sometimes seemed so much more easy.
"Lityan... There is something I've been wanting to tell you." Chaltyk started.
"Yes?" Lityan asked, only a little eager.
"I was wondering if maybe we could eh..." Two dragons arched forward, "go hunting together." Two disappointed dragons placed their heads on their paws again.
"I'd be delighted." Lityan said also a little disappointed. What would it take for Chaltyk to say something?
"Apparently the world ending..." Nizryth muttered to Xersenyth.
"Sush! I want to listen." Xersenyth said.
"Fool, like anything's going to happen tonight." Nizryth shrugged.
Lityan turned to Chaltyk, determined to say something about what she had been thinking. She turned to her friend and nearly choked when she saw him juggling three pairs of sunglasses.
"When did you learn that?" she asked.
"I only managed to do it a week ago." Chaltyk said, deftly making three pairs 5 and even 7. Nizryth for a moment watched the spectacle and then decided it wasn't that interesting.
"I'd wish they'd move on a bit faster... I won't wait forever for you." she said to Xersenyth.
"You won't?"
"I have better things to do... however if we just fly and they get swept up in the passion... wouldn't that work?" she asked.
"I told you: I don't want to interfere."
"Not even if I just fly and there's no-one to chase me? Would you leave me unfulfilled?" she teased.
"Maybe I would." he answered.
"Liar." she winked and launched herself in the sky. Xersenyth waited for a second but then couldn't control himself anymore. He flew up after her and followed her shifting, swinging, dangling path in the sky.
"Look!" Lityan shouted, "It's beautiful!!"
"They're juggling too... I didn't know dragons usually did this. I've only seen them doing it once..." Chaltyk started and abruptly stopped.
"A flight!" Lityan whispered.
The feelings of passion reached both of them. Added to the feelings they already had for each other it was almost unbearable not to just give in.
"You don't have to if you don't want to.." Chaltyk started.
"You don't need either..." Lityan said.
"Damned! Will you just get together!" Nizryth shouted to them.
Lityan turned toward Chaltyk. "Don't say you've been wanting to tell me for ages?"
"From the moment we left IceLand." Chaltyk smirked, "You?"
"Around that time." she said, falling in his waiting arms.
"Happy now?" Xersenyth asked high in the sky.
"Almost." Nizryth answered, "Come here." Reaching out with her tail and wings she let Xersenyth approach and gave into him as Lityan did to Chaltyk on the ground.
"They better never forget what I had to endure for them..." Xersenyth said.
"As if you didn't like this either..."
Nizryth whispered.
