Hatching 13
Gold Purelith and Glowing Gold Einzelth

Dusk was leaving when the first eggs of Purelith's clutch started to move. Twitching softly they moved only faintly, and not very often at that. But it was enough to alert the gold that the time was near for hatching. Through the night the call for the candidates was launched, with the first stars twinkling in the sky to witness the event.
Inside the cave Trix yawned, she never had been a night person, but even this clutch needed recording. Beside her Pennae sat, a shirt with 'The Pen is Mightier than the sword' covering her body to the tip of her tail. The Halloween dragon seemed to be all the more alert and ready to note down everything she saw.
Candidates filed in, the two wolves that had come with Adrian who had bonded at the Season's clutch. You'd think they would be the weirdest candidates around, but not for this clutch. Two purple star dancers had teleported in, flying circles near the ceiling of the cavern, waiting for their egg to hatch.
Another couple suddenly filed in, walking hand in hand. These two were sisters, and half goddesses. They were the personifications of Sun and moon, neither of them up right now, but soon the moon would rise, reflecting what was to be seen back to the sun.
Vaesei with her platinum hair was talking with Cherry, entirely in a pink outfit, his own star dancer running around his feet, occasionally sitting down to purr or scratch an itch. The little winged cat looked very uninterested in the eggs, but was all the more interested in the other two star dancers flying above him.
Despite all the unusual candidates the atmosphere in the hatching cave was loose and friendly, calm after the storm of the Halloween clutch, though even that one had been only a small storm. But that event had only been an aftershock of the bunny run, as large an event as Lantessama had ever seen. After all that a 'normal clutch' seemed almost something relaxing
The eggs grouped in front of Purelith suddenly doubled their efforts for movement and not long after the first cracks appeared in their shell. It seemed these hatchlings had had enough of a wait. Larger pieces started to flake away within minutes and the first hatchling appeared on the sands, stepping from the remainder of his prenatal home within 10 minutes of the arrival of the last candidate.
The hatchling, a softly glowing light purple female looked up to the dark ceiling. She gazed for a while and then smiled, opening her wings a bit, radiating more light into the dark.
The star dancer Amy Lavence was hit by the softly flickering light and looked down in wonder. She swooped down and sat herself on the shoulder of the baby dragoness, dangerously tipping the hatchling over. But they were together.
"Together always..." the hatchling sighed in the minds of everyone around, "I'm Minerva."
As the pair wandered toward the Feeding tables near the exit, another egg cracked, hatching a male glowing nebula. His hide was darker than his sister's, but the dark light that shone of him wasn't without it's charm.
Hastily shaking his head and body to swish off the last moist and egg yoke, the dragonet too looked up and called out: "Get down Jett! I just know Minerva will eat everything if I don't catch up with her. Hurry!"
The male star dancer looked down and was just about to argue that there was too much food for that to happen when he felt the hunger of the hatchling hit him. Nearly falling down, he zigzagged through the air toward the tables, the male nebula that called itself Morpheus in his head, happily following him.
The next egg to break did so with a loud crash. The hatchling falling from the shell was blood red, darker than most other bloods, but not glowing with even the smallest spark. Looking up defiantly at all the worried faces he said: "Come Darian, these losers wouldn't know a healthy hatchling when it hit them in the face."
"Yes, Bleeth." he said, an angry glitter in his eyes, "They're not very smart around here, I've found."
the rest of his words were lost by the angry roar in the hatching caves.
Two more eggs hatched, and spectators quickly silenced themselves and others around them to watch the rest of the hatching.
Cheers went through the audience as a female nebula-winged sun and a female foliage-winged moon, stepped from their respective shells. They both looked in the same direction, walking calmly - almost regally - to the waiting sisters Helia and Selene. The twin demi-goddesses laughed in delight as the dragons bonded to them.
"My name is Sandrine." the nebula-sun told Helia, her hide sparkling with a yellow light that was softened by the purple light from her wings, "Will I dance with you one day?"
"And me?" the silver-glowing with green wings asked Selene, "Will you let me dance too? My name is Parafine."
"You'll be a valuable addition." Selene smiled.
"You'll have to practice a lot though." Helia added, "But don't worry. We'll help you."
The two dragonesses nodded and then softly guided their new bonds to the feeding tables.
A female moon, not glowing, but mysterious non the less, sat waiting for the two to leave for the feeding tables. When they had left the sands, she hurried toward Nijeyy, one of the winged wolves. Looking deeply into the female wolf that was neither light nor dark inside, but the same silvery grey as she, the dragoness said: "I thought they'd never leave. life's too short to dawdle. My name is Sayrenlith." she took a breath, "Can we go now?"
Nijeyy bared her teeth in a vicious-looking smile, but her eyes stood friendly and she followed her running dragon to the feeding tables.
A glowing male foliage hatched next, the veins of the leaves in his wings pulsating in tune with his steps. He walked around the cave, but then returned and shook his head.
"I'm Gaith and I chose to walk alone." he said, "To Starburst." he added after a small period of time.
A male glowing dawn, his wings a delicate mozaique of shifting light, stepped out of Gaith's way as he left for the feeding tables. The hatchling greeted his brother, but then returned his attention to the candidates. Sighing a bit disappointed, he finally called to his brother: "Hey Gaith! Wait up will ya." he ran toward his brother, "I'm Suenu. I'm thinking of going to Darkling Dawn."
"I hear the living is good there," Gaith added, "But Starburst adds just that extra for me."
"Stil, Darkling Dawn..."
The two left together, each trying to explain to the other why their home was better.
By far the largest egg that Purelith had laid was now rocking violently enough to push other eggs away just by it's presence. Finally a crack spread from top to bottom and the egg split in half, revealing two orange dragonets rolling in different directions.
One of the identical flame hatchlings fell in front of Piakii, one of the two wolves standing candidate. Carefully licking the hatchling that was about the same size as he, he asked the hatchling if he was ok.
"I am now." the flame said looking up with big blue eyes, "I'm Wildfyre."
On the other side of the hatching cave, another pair of deep blue eyes were gazing into Vaesei's. Softly exploring the insides of the woman's mind, opening thought after thought the hatchling finally stopped... there was too much to find out. He got to his feet and said: "My name is Singlelith."
Vaesei nodded and gestured to the tables: "You don't know me yet, but I know you through and through." she said.
The hatchling looked pensive at the feeding tables, but then decided that his hunger needed quenching more than his want for knowledge. "Ok."
The two last eggs cracked and a glowing earth male and a dawn-rain glowing female suddenly appeared on the sands. The two of them looked at the last remaining candidate, Cherry, dressed entirely in pink, his pink star dancer still running laps around his legs.
"He's too girly for me..." the earth said, "I think I'll go to the ring of fire. That's got a nice ring to it."
The earth male, Allonath, left for the feeding tables, leaving Cherry alone with the female rain.
"I hope you don't think I'm a left over." Cherry said.
He knew he was worth more than the male earth had said.
"Not at all. My brother tried to be nice to me without making it obvious." the dawn-rain said, "He should know better than to try playing tricks with me though." she continued, "I'm smarter than that."
The female dragon looked into Cherry's eyes and sighed: "You're worth more than a thousand treasures, my bond. My name is Yorda."
"I know."
Getting up after the last pair had left the hatching ground, Trix put a decorated 12 on the bottom of her record sheet. Twelve more dragons released into the universe. She looked down and gently smiled, picking up the sleeping Pennae before she too left, greeting the weary mother Purelith and her mate Einzelth on her way out. The pair of dragons was left in near dark, only the soft golden glow to light them as they lovingly placed their heads against each other and entwined their tails. The night was young yet...
