WEYRLING
TRAINING (3 months of age)
"Easy does it." Axelle called, "I know you can do it."
"That's easy for you to say when you're all the
way down there." Pelarth responded.
"Well you're a dragon. Of course you can fly."
"I'm not so sure. I had quite a big
breakfast." Pelarth hesitated.
"Just jump down!" Axelle said, "I'll catch you if you
fall."
"You're like half my size." Pelarth
quivered imagining the carnage.
"I'm certain you won't need me." Axelle said, nudging him mentally
to spread his wings.
With a thudding heart and shaky legs, Pelarth did just that and took the
step forward that plunged him into nothingness. He opened his wings as he'd
been taught but the relaxing part and the part where he could let the wind
carry him didn't seem to go so well.
He crashed into Axelle who stood the entire 10 feet lower.
"Well I guess that is okay for a first time." She shrugged.

ADULT
MISSIONS (12 months of age)
Pelarth had graduated just the other day and Axelle had finished all the
necessary preparations to join the weyr's transport business in the Ruby
Wing. She'd heard
the Dawn Watch Weyr riders talking numerous times that they were getting
more work now that they'd been here for a while. If she played her cards right, she could
take on a bit of that business and make a living. And she knew just the person to ask to
help her.
"Poor Devron." Pelarth snorted, "He
doesn't know what's headed his way."
"Hush you." Axelle smiled, "I just know Surith would love to
see the world."
"Indeed she would." Pelarth said, "As
do I."
"I know. Finally! Freedom!" Axelle called out.
"You love me and you know it."
Pelarth snorted, "Even when I gave you
work."
"Of course. But now we're on equal footing. That feels much
better."
"Equal footing?" Pelarth grinned, "I
think I can take you out with one tailswoop."
Axelle gave him that point and then went look for Devron and Surith. She was
just heading up the stairs when she heard some intersting words:
Why not
ask if we can go with her? I want to see the world too."
"I'm glad you suggested this yourself." Axelle said as she entered
Devron's weyr.
She turned to Devron and said: "So how about it? Now that we're free
and graduated, want to earn some money in the package trade?"
"Are you serious?" Devron asked.
"I've been planning it ever since Pelarth started flight
practice." Axelle grinned.

gentleman, the sort to offer the last bite of herdbeast to someone who looks
hungry, or give up his warm spot on the heights to someone whose just come
in from the cold.
