Old Futhark
Kenaz

The red haired boy of the family called Kenaz wasn't any good at fighting. He was, on the other hand, very good with giving advice and thinking of strategies.
All his brothers knew that and when they asked him advice when they were playing in the fields, the one that listened to Kenaz won.
Although at first. Because after a while all 9 brothers asked for advice.
The first time every brother had asked advice, they played until their mother came to get them and said they had to go to bed. Nobody had won that day, but nobody had lost either.

Now, Kenaz was scared. He wasn't like his twin brother at all. Long and clumsy, with fiery red hair and a pail skin, covered with freckles.
"It'll all be alright Kenaz." Dagaz, his twin brother said as they were walking towards their new destiny.
"I'm not sure.. I don't want to fight.. I'll cut off one of my arms for sure."
"You don't know that.. And there are other weapons than a sword."
"What? crossbow? I'll poke my eye out with an arrow. Or perhaps daggers.. A long cut in my leg when I put it in my belt. I can't fight Dagaz.. Everybody knows that."
"I heard that Thurisas is a leader of one of the Aetts. And he was clumsy too."
"Not as clumsy as I am."
"And less stubborn too." And with that, they both kept silent until they entered the gates towards the camp.

"Welcome brothers." Thurisas and Theiwaz called out when they were looking at some men fighting.
"How are you two?" Theiwaz asked.
"Great!" Dagaz said.
"Never better." Kenaz said in a sarcastic way.
"You won't have to fight Kenaz. I found a better way to use your talents." Thurisas grinned towards his younger brother. "You're in my Aett and you'll be my right hand."
"Really? I don't have to fight?"
"No. But you'll probably have to help the doctor, when he arrives to take care of the wounded."
"I don't care. As long as I don't need to use a weapon, I'll be just fine."

And Thurisas kept his word. Kenaz became the right hand of Thurisas. He had to give him advice when one of the men had done something wrong, or think of the best way to attack.
Kenaz even started to enjoy his time at the army. Even more when he found out that his younger brother Eihwaz was the doctor.
When Kenaz wasn't busy thinking of strategies, he was helping Eihwaz with his patients, and although he smashed about half of the pots with herbs, he did lots of good things too.

Lots of years passed, and finally they were all send out to war. Kenaz thought that he would forget everything his younger brother had learned him, but when he repeated it in his head, he knew everything.
Riding next to Thurisas made him look with his head up high. He was proud of himself that he had made it this far, and even with all his externals still on his body.
He was one of the first that saw the dragon land.
He didn't have to think long.  It was, in every aspect, the best way to spend their lives. Very long relaxed lives are always better then very short ones with lots of fear.

Kenaz impressed at Lantessama

Snow was falling outside for the first time that year. It didn't seem like it would stay, but the effect was pretty and so was the timing. Five candidates had been found this year, three IceLanders from the North and two runic warriors.
As the eggs began rocking the first candidates entered. Just about fifteen minutes later the first egg crackled and a spiderweb of jiggly lines appeared on it's surface. Soon the lines connected and the egg fell neatly in half, allowing a white and yellow hatchling do drop out. The hatchling was wingless with a ridge of very peculiar outcrops over the entirety of her body. Markings riddled her skin on her head and tail.

Two more eggs hatched and two males, a blue and red crystal walked away from the wreckage of eggshell. They seemed to ignore each other as they each went into a completely different direction. The blue crystal headed for the runic warrior Kenaz who was a pacifist despite his large frame and firey red hair.

"I am Eisje." he said, "I wish to go with you."
The fourth egg hatched and a purple crystal female fell out. She looked around for a while. As Lucas had feared there were more female dragons than female candidates. But this female did not seem to mind when she headed for the second runic warrior, Dagaz. Maybe the warrior was the most gentle of the two candidates left, loving nature and the sun.
"My name is Gnijs, mine." the dragon said, "Can I come with you?"
Of course you can, Gnijs." Dagaz said, feeling the odd name take form in his mouth.
