Conner and Tween lived in the same town. They were about each others age and they were good friends. Conner was 1 year younger than Tween.
Conner was as high as Tween, Tween had blond hair and Conner Dark brown. Tween had brown eyes and Conner light blue. They were different from each other. Maybe it's because of the differences that they were such good friends. They were together from the sun that wakes up till the sun gets back to sleep. There parents had to find them. They always went away from town to look for new adventures.
Conner's parents weren't together anymore. He lived with his mother, his father lived in another town far away.
Conner always wondered what his dad looked like. He hadn't seen him since he was a baby. He didn't remember him. His younger sister was only a few days old when they had left. It was all so sudden. He didn't want to talk about it much... Only Tween knew how he felt about this and what he thought about his father.
Tween his parents were both nice loving parents who had only Tween. They were overprotective as he would say, but they were only very worried about him.

Now there was a plague in the town. Conner's mom was really sick.
'Mom is sick.. She can't get up...' Conner said to Tween. 'I hope she'll be all right...'
'I think everything will be alright.' Tween smiled at Conner. He didn't like his friend being sad. He felt that he had to help him, although he didn't know how.
'My little sister is getting hungry. I have to go to the other village and get some food for them.. Will you help me?' He looked at Tween.
Tween looked in the blue eyes of Conner. He needed to help him. He would get lost...
'I'll help you! There is maybe waiting an adventure in the other town.' Tween said this to cheer up Conner.
'Yes, maybe. And then we could save the world from danger, like the dragon rider do..' Tween could see that Conner was happy again. Although it wasn't for long. 'Let us go. We have to get back before dark...'
Tween and Conner left and on the way to the village, Conner asked Tween something.
'Do you think that we will always be friends?'
'I will do everything I can to make sure that we will be friends for ever!'
'Your my best friend Tween. I wouldn't know what to begin without you...'
'And you're my friend Conny! And I will never leave your side, fighting of the danger'
'Yes! We will become dragon riders, fighting of evil!' Conner was dreaming about what was going to happen when Tween gave him a push. 'We need to get going, no dreaming now...'
'Yes your right.' Conner didn't say anything anymore and they walked and bought some food for his mother and brother. Then they got back. But when they got back, Conner saw that something was wrong. His little sister was standing outside crying.
'What's wrong?' Conner ran to his sister.
'There is something with Mommy...' He said
Conner ran inside and when he saw his mother, he noticed that she wasn't breathing... 'Mom? I went to the village... For food...' But she didn't answer... He walked to her and she felt cold. 'Mommy?'
His high small voice was shaking. He knew that she was death. What was he going to say to Kathlyn, his sister. She was so young... Where were they going to live? All these questions... He couldn't handle it. He fell on the ground and started to cry.
Tween entered after a while. 'I have send Kathlyn to my parents... How is your mother?'
'She's death... I don't want her to be that...' He said he could hardly speak. His troth hurt.
'Ssshhhtt...' Tween said. He sat besides Conner and laid his hand on the shocking shoulder of his friend. Conner looked up. Tween saw the pain in his eyes. 'Can I do something? I don't want you to be in this pain..'
'You could go to the doctor... Your parents will be here very soon..'
Tween looked at Conner and then left him behind. Conner crawled to his mother and he took her hand. It felt so cold, but he didn't care. He pressed it against his face. There he sat for a few minutes. He didn't knew how long had passed or who had been there.. He didn't care either.
Tween got back with the doctor and his parents entered the house too. 'Come with us Conner, to your sister..' They said. Nobody knew what to do.
'Tween, you will go to our house with Conner and you will let him sleep with his sister in our bed.' His mother  looked at Tween. Tween took the hand of Conner and pushed him out of the house to his home.
They didn't say anything. 'We are here. Come in..'
Conner didn't answer. He saw his little sister sitting in a chair. She was crying too. She ran to Conner and grabbed him. 'Is she with the angels now?' She asked.
'Yes Kathlyn.. She is, and she's watching us now. She misses us...' He hugged her and Tween took them to a bed where they could get some sleep.

Kathlyn fell asleep in Conner's arms. He on the other hand couldn't sleep. He looked at Kathlyn. She had as dark hair as Conner himself and her eyes were grey. She looked like mom.
He was crying quietly. So that Kathlyn wouldn't wake up. She believed that mom had gone to the angels and that she would be safe there. He didn't know where she had gone to. He wanted to believe that she had gone with the angels... but he couldn't.

The next morning was hard for him. Kathlyn was telling Tween's parents that mom had gone to heaven. They smiled at her and told her what she wanted to hear. She was to young to understand. The doctor had arranged everything. His mother would be berried tomorrow. 'Conner we want to speak to you alone...' It were the parents that woke hi out of his day dream.
'Yes...' he followed them to another room where Kathlyn couldn't hear them.
'We have to contact your father..'
Conner felt that he was thrown in a black whole, with no ending.. What was he to do?
'But we don't know him...'
'Yes we know.. But there is no other way.'
He turned around and walked out of the house, he needed some fresh air.. Tween followed him.
'Conny wait!...'
'Do you know that my dad is coming?'
'No I didn't... Are you alright. Do you need to talk?'
'No I need to be alone.. There is to much going on...'
Tween didn't argue with him but went back inside. Conner walked to a forest and there sat on fallen tree.

When he got back, it was almost dark. Tween's parents were worried. But he didn't notice. He went to Kathlyn and told her that daddy was coming. She didn't know how to react. It was her daddy, so she was happy. But on the other hand, her daddy was a complete stranger.. 'We are going to make the best of it ok?' He said. 'Promise me Kath...'
'Yes Conny.. I promise. We're going to make fun.' Kathlyn smiled at Conner. He smiled back.
The parents were relieved that Conner was so grown up and could handle it that well.

His father arrived on the next morning, right before mom was to be berried. He didn't go to Conner and Kathlyn, until after the ceremony. He waited and looked at them. It seemed that Kathlyn looked like there mother, but Conner looked like him. He didn't know what to feel. He felt that he had been a bad father. They shouldn't had to go through this... He had to be here from the start. He felt that he had betrayed them.
He took all of his courage and then he went to them. He saw that Conner didn't trust him. He hold his sister close to him. 'That is dad...' he whispered into the ear of Kathlyn. Kathlyn looked up and saw a man. Tall and light. He walked softly on the ground. 'He looks like you Conny...' She said.
'Yes I do.' Dad said, he had a soft low voice that sounded like a beautiful song. Kathlyn was enchanted by the sound. 'Hello daddy...' Kathlyn pulled away from the embrace with Conner and ran to him. She hugged him and at first he didn't know what to do. He felt overwhelmed that it went so well. He hugged her and gave her a little kiss on her hair. He was almost crying and then he looked at Conner. Conner didn't know what he had to do. Did he have to run to him like Kathlyn? Or did he have to hate him?
'Conner?' his father asked. 'Kathlyn? would you go to the parents of Tween?' She looked to him and then ran away as fast as she could to them. How did he know what the name of Tween was?
'You don't have to hate me..' He said. 'Mom and me kept in touch, that is why I know about Tween.'
'Why shouldn't I hate you? You left us and let mom die!' Conner ran away as fast as he could, away from all the pain. But his father ran after him. 'Wait. I need to tell you something.'
Should his dad tell the truth about his sister? He didn't want to make his mother a bad person.. She had had another relationship and his sister wasn't his real sister, she wasn't from him. No he couldn't do that.
'You mom left me, she didn't want to live in the city.. But I wanted to stay. So we both went our way.' Conner stopped running but didn't turn around. I have to go through with this. His father thought.
'We both decided that was best. Conner, I'm not a bad person.. I only mad mistakes.. I hope you can forgive me...' His dad stopped talking when Conner turned to his father. He was crying. It was all to hard for him, all the changes.
'Why did she had to die?' he started to cry even harder. Dad went to him and gave him a hug.
'She isn't death.. As long as the people who loved her won't forget about her..' His dad said. Conner could believe this. He felt that his dad had cached him in that black hole. And he was helping him to get out of that dark place.
'Are we going back?' his dad took Conner around the shoulder and the walked back to the town together.

They staid for a couple of weeks in town. They got to know dad and they were happy that he was there dad. He was a really great guy. But one day he got a note. He had to go back to his village. And Conner and Kathlyn had to come with him because he didn't want to leave them behind.
Conner was pulled between two camps. He wanted to go with dad, but then he had to leave his best friend. But he couldn't stay here, he knew that. But it hurt him.
'Tween... I have to go with my dad...' Conner had been with Tween all day and it was one of there last days together. Tween didn't know what to do. He knew that Conner had no choice and that he couldn't make it anymore harder for him.
'Promise me that we will come back together. It doesn't make any difference when, but someday.. Promise me Conny..'
'I promise. He took his knife and he cut in his hand. He gave the knife to Tween and he did the same. They pressed there hands together and they knew they couldn't break this promise.
They spend all of the days with each other. But at the day that they had to split up, Tween was nowhere to be found. Conner was worried and didn't want to leave without saying goodbye. His dad waited patiently.
Then at last Tween came running to Conner. 'I'm sorry Conny...' He was out of breath.
Conner wanted to say something but Tween wouldn't let him. 'I made this.. Keep it close to your hart...'
It was a necklace. there was a little sign in it. 'It stands for light in the dark... I hope it will help you through all the times. Conner looked at it. It was like this:

'Thank you Tween! He jumped of the wagon and jumped around the neck of Tween. 'Your my best friend.'
'Come Conny, you have to go now...' Tween said, his voice shacked. 'Remember our promise Conny..' He whispered in his friends ear.
Conner stepped back next to his father and they left. Conner didn't say anything, he looked at the sign. He would never do it off. He looked back and he didn't saw Tween. He looked around and there he was. He was standing on there secret place. He was waving. What he couldn't see was that he was crying. He just lost his best friend. Conner waved back. Then he didn't look back and Tween turned round and ran, as hard as he could away from the sight. He never came to there secret place again..

Tween grew up and he studied to be a smids. He learned at the town and he was really good at it. He hadn't forgot about Conner. He missed him a lot. It had been 6 years till he left and a lot had changed. He had become a man. He worked with some friends, but nobody knew him as Conny.

They had to make something for the gather. He hoped that Conner would be there. It would be great. But he thought that he wouldn't recognise Conner if he sat right in front of him. But still he hoped that they would meet again.
'Tween! Keep your head with your work!' It was his teacher that told him this. 'You would be a great smid if you weren't dreaming this much!' he would always say.. But he couldn't help it.

They were making some sort of new advent ion and they needed to finish it before the gather. He didn't knew what it was going to do, but he needed to make sure everything was in place. It would be his last year and then he was finished with school. Then there would be nobody that yelled into his ear. He woke up from this dream when someone bumped into him. It was a new boy and it was his first year. He smiled at the boy and the boy was relieved that he wasn't mad at him.
It took some more days, but then the invention was ready. Tween had to go with his teacher to the gather and there he would have to help him.
They left to the gather and it took them 2 days to get there, but when they did, Tween saw all the happy people talking to each other and laughing. He touched his hand. You could still see the scare from back then. He wondered if Conner was here. He had imagined it, but he wasn't sure.

He helped to unload the newest invention and then he could walk around from his teacher. So he walked around looking for Conner and looking at all the search riders. He thought of his fantasy with Conner, fighting evil on there dragons. He smiled maybe he should go and see if he was there.
When he came closer, someone talked to him. 'You can't come here!' he said. 'You don't belong here.' It was a man, he was as tall as Tween and he looked angry.
'I can stand and go where I want to.' Tween said calm to the man.
'Not at all! You can't stay here!' The man was going to hit Tween when somebody jumped between them and made the man calm down.
'Easy Nigel... This man didn't do anything wrong. Maybe you should drink less...' Tween looked at the back of the man. He could see that he had dark brown hair and he had come from the harpers. Everything was quiet. Nobody said anything, only this man. 'Why don't you go away and take a rest..' He pushed the man gently away and the man went away. The man who jumped between turned round and wanted to gave Tween a hand. 'Hello!' Tween gave him a hand and felt something. He took the hand of the man, it was soft. He saw the scare. 'Conny?' he asked.
'Tween? Is that you?' Then Tween saw the rune he had given him.
!Conny!' he felt happy. He lumped around his friends neck and Conner hugged him back. He jumped around.
'I've missed you!' Conny said. His voice was a bit lower than 6 years ago. But it was still high.
'I've missed you too! It's so good to see you!'
' Why don't we go somewhere to talk?'
They walked around a bit and talked to each other. It seemed that Conner had become a Harper and that he hadn't changed a bit. He was as energetic as before. Tween felt that his energies had become more since he talked to Conner. He now knew how much he had missed Conner. He didn't know it was this much.
He looked happy, he was grown a lot and he was taller than Tween. He looked as a really peaceful and helpful man.
'How is your sister?' Tween asked.
'She's fine! She's now studying to become a healer. She's very good at it.'
Tween smiled. He wondered how she looked after 6 years. 'She stayed at home' Conner said 'She didn't want to leave her herbs.'
Tween smiled. 'Do you remember our promise?' He looked at Conner, you could see that he hadn't forgot a word of it. He smiled like a small child.
'What did you think? Of course not!'
'And you have seen some searchers?'
Conner looked at him. 'Are you thinking what I'm thinking?'
'What are you thinking?' Tween asked. He knew that they both thought the same, but he was teasing Conner a bit.
Conner jumped up and pulled Tween with him to the searchers.
'We would like to be candidates!' He said to a man.
'Don't we all?' he said. 'You have to go to him. He will help you.'
They ran to the other man and there Conner said the same. 'We would like to be candidates!'
The man looked at them for a second. He was thinking what he had to do with them. 'Hmmm...' Was the only thing he said.
'Is that a "yes you can" or more of a "Yeah right.. Not in this life?' Conner asked.
'I think, or at least I hope it's a "yes you can" because else, we will hunt you with our good moods and make you...' Tween was interrupted by the man.
'It is. Don't worry. Just wait here and then we will ride to the frenzy.'

Conner grew up as a Harper. He had always loved music and he could express his feelings with his music. The master Harper loved to hear him play, although he always played sad songs. It could touch every living thing on the planet.
Now Conner had to make a last song and play it at the gather. If the people loved it there, then he would be finished learning. It would be his last test.

Conner practiced and practiced. But there was always something missing. He walked around and then he found it. He wanted to have his best friend again. He wanted to be truly happy again. He touched the rune. He had never put it of.
He held it in his hand and then he divided to write a song about there friendship. So he began writing and when he was finished, he saw that he loved it, and he just knew other would like it to. It was happy in the beginning and sad in the middle. And it had an ending of hope.

He ran to the master Harper
'I have finished my song. I'm ready to leave now.'
He nodded and they left with other harpers to the gather. Conner looked around and wanted to meet Tween. Maybe he was here...
But as he looked around, he saw a man and anther man was jellying at him. He wondered why he didn't do anything about it. He looked strong enough to handle him. He was well build and had some great muscles. He looked like some one of the smids. Without thinking, Conner ran to the men and jumped between them. He saw that it was Nigel, one of the man that helped them get here. He was drunk...
'Easy Nigel... This man didn't do anything wrong. Maybe you should drink less...'
'Why don't you go away and take a rest..' He pushed the man gently away and the man went away. Conner turned round and wanted to give the other man a hand. 'Hello!' the man said and gave him a hand. Conner felt something. But the other man reacted faster. He took Conner's hand and looked at it.
'Conny?' he asked.
'Tween? Is that you?' Conner didn't know how to react.
!Conny!' He jumped around his friends neck and Conner hugged him back. He jumped around.
'I've missed you!' Conny said.
'I've missed you too! It's so good to see you!'
'Why don't we go somewhere to talk?'
They walked around a bit and talked to each other. It seemed that Tween had become a smids and that he hadn't changed a bit. He was as calm as before.
He looked happy, he was smaller than Conner and Conner just knew that he was going to teas him with that, but not now.
Conner couldn't wait anymore. He had waited all his life for this moment.

They waited and waited and when they were ready to lave, the harpers and smids were looking for them.
'Conner? You still have to do your song...' The Harper said
'Tween, where were you? Don't say that you were dreaming again!'.
'Sorry..' They both said on the same time. 'But we are going to become dragon riders...'
The two masters were shocked. 'What?' They said. 'Are you going to throw everything away?'
'Euhm... Yes. Sorry, We thank you for your attention and your patience.' Tween said.
'This is what I always wanted to become, I have found my best friend again. The song that I wrote wouldn't be good for this...'
They didn't understand, but Conner and Tween had to leave now to get to the frenzy. So they said goodbye and left. Leaving two masters who didn't knew what to do.

They arrived at the frenzy and there they waited to impress a dragon. This was the happiest day for both of them after so much time. If they would impress a dragon, that would be even more special about this day.
They waited and waited till they saw that some of the eggs were moving...

Conner was drawn to one specific dragon. She looked proud at her eggs. One of them, the first to hatch, revield a redish dragon. He had two horns and when he got near Conner, he noseled his nose against him. Conner felt the dragon inside his head. He could hear the dragon speak. He loved the feeling of this dragon. Although he was starving. He named himself Kazzath.

Kazzath

Conner went away and looked at Tween. Tween was happy for him, although he was very nervous. Wat if he didn't get to impress a dragon of his own. There were still a lot of people left. He still had a chance. He looked at the eggs. A little dragon, wih pink spots came running at him. Tween didn't know what to do. He jumped aside, but the dragon stopped in front of him. He looked in the big eyes of the dragon. He heard a feminin voice in his head. Ooooh… I was so afraid that someone else would get you! You can’t have him! She hissed at another dragon who wanted to take a look at Tween. She curled her tale around Tween
"It's ok, Vithravielth, you got me.' he laughed as she continued to hiss. Abrupltly her manner changed.

Ok then. Let’s go get some food.
"
Shure." He chuckled as they left the sands.
