EXPLORING THE BIODOME
Grue felt the cold material beneath her feet and considered her options. She'd arrived on the Refugium a couple of days before and had been greeted, been asked to fill in a few forms and directed to temporary housing in Janos City. Alas this wasn't her intended destination. Grue had heard about the different biodomes of the space station and all the endangered species that resided within. She was particularly interested in the arid biodome as it w
as the most promising for her purpose. She prayed the elusive plant she was searching for could be found here. That one of the endangered species had brought seeds along and grown it in these wonderful domes that preserved what would otherwise be lost.
But Grue knew chances were slim. She wasted no time in relinquishing her temporary housing and filing the apropriate forms to move to the arid biodome. She was asked what housing she would require and stated that she would make her own. The clerk gave her a once over, shrugged and approved her request. An hour later and Grue tasted the dry air of the arid dome and sighed with contentment. She would take it easy today and start her search tomorrow. First she'd do a little exploring of the structures that housed those who worked here.
"Excuse me." she called.
Grue had entered a plain white rectangle with small windows and thick walls. It was far less advanced than anything else she'd seen but it felt a lot more comfortable to her. Silence greeted her. As her eyes adjusted to the sparser light, Grue finally noticed the poster hanging above a desk:

Away for now.
Report any Ibidis nests
to Management.
Thank you!

Flyers with things to look for and the general description of the Ibidis lay on the desk. Grue picked up one of the folded papers, examined it and put it away. If she came across any of these nests she'd know what to do. With nothing else to do here, Grue set out to look for the plant she needed.

Grue had tried her magic. But something was interfering with it. Maybe it was the unfamiliar surroundings. Maybe it was that not all the elements here were natural. Whatever the cause, it meant that she was left to look the old-fashioned way. Luckily she was suited for the domain. She'd always loved heat, preferably dry heat, and basking in the sun.
As she turned rocks and got close to any green sprig she saw, Grue wandered further into the arid dome. A breath of air caressed her like a warm embrace and she was tempted to remove her clothes but knew better. Adapted as she may be to the terrain, she wouldn't fare well if she followed those kind of delusions.
After an hour of wandering and searching, Grue was no closer to finding the specimen she needed. But she had wandered closer to other sentient beings. People - and she used that term liberally to indicate those that seemed to be sentient - were wandering about. They seemed to have cordoned off a spot close to some larger boulders. Interested, Grue mmoved closer and was stopped when she got to talking distance:
"Excuse me, I'm afraid you're not allowed to come any closer."
"Can I know why?" she asked, getting curious.
"There is an Ibidis nest there and we're not to disturb it."
"I read about that." Grue nodded.
She turned to continue her own search but suddenly decided that she had plenty of time to look for plants. It would be a waste to forego the presented opportunity:
"You know i have a couple of questions after reading this pamphlet. it says here that...."
After a thorough questioning, Grue had learned quite a bit more about the Ibidis. Enough to decide that she would like to see this hatching. Staying to attend it also meant a lot more time to explore the biodomes. It would be foolish to only focus on the arid biodome after all. Although she'd probably need some help to explore the others. Grue felt more excited than she'd had the past year. Sometimes a little detour added spice to life.
