HATCHLINGS
Faris and Twan stood between the other candidates. Faris made sure she stayed as far away from Twan as possible. There were 22 candidates for 19 eggs. Faris knew she wouldn't impress. She looked down at the sands and felt the heat through her slippers. That's how she missed everything until that one voice came into her head.
"Are you sure you did this all for a boy?"
"Well maybe that was the original Idea" she said, realising how stupid she'd been. This topped every possible human love she'd ever have. "But even if it wasn't, I'd never refuse you."
"Good, because I would have pulled you out of the stands if you had not decided to stand here." The little green replied, nudging her towards the exit. Faris smiled and turned. She dared to look at Twan once before she went out,  knowing she had left the world she knew. Well, he'd still be able to sign up for Veloth's flight, but there was so much else left for her to do!

Twan didn't miss the first hatchlings. He had his eyes fixed on the eggs. A blue, a bronze, then a green, 2 blues and a brown. After that two greens, one dark and one lighter, a blue and to his surprise a white hatched. He followed them and saw Faris impressing the lighter of the two greens. He was happy for her, but it made him even more determined to impress. 2 browns left the sands, but there were still plenty of eggs. Then three blues hatched and Twan didn't know what to think when one of them came his way. The largest of the three he remarked to himself and felt a stab of pride when he heard:
"Twan? I think she might like you."
At first those words struck him as odd. "Who Agrarith...?" he asked and then blushed as he remembered Faris. But his love for Agrarith was already far greater then his love for Faris would ever be. She might like him, but they'd never start a relationship. He would be happy to have her as a friend again though.

"Faris! Let's go!! We shouldn't be late for practise!" Twan shouted
"I'm coming!!" She pushed herself in her riding gear and raced outside.
She caught up to Twan as he turned a corner and they both got to the training right in time. The assignment for the day was to practice their going between in teams. Seeing as they were good friends Faris and Twan were named as 1 team. Faris almost blushed when she thought about what the others might think of them spending so much time together. She didn't feel the same for Twan as before.
"Whatever you say, now let's fly!" Veloth said.
Twan made the ready signal and they both flew to their first stop. It was a lake, sheltered by trees and mountains. Twan had found it on one of the trips out.
"Can we swim?" Agrarith asked.
"Fine with me."
Twan landed and motioned to Faris that they'd be taking a swim.
"Isn't this goofing off?" Faris asked.
"Yes, but we have time."
"oh, ok." She could use some relaxation.
Twan helped Faris remove her riding gear. Suddenly he touched her hand by accident. He smiled softly and remembered his foolish love for this girl.
"You know I once used to like you." He said
"Me too."
Twan was slightly thrown off by this answer, because he didn't intend to start any romance just yet. Not with Agrarith still a weyrling.
"But we'll just stay friends?"
Faris let out her breath she'd been holding and nodded.
"Yes."
Both dragons grinned.

Faris jumped and landed safely in Twan's arms.
"What are you doing?" he asked, "Or should I ask what are you planning?"
"Why would you asume I'm planning anything?"
"Because you are a devious girl."
"I am NOT!"
"Remember you planned your way into the Weyr."
She grinned, Twan knew her too well. She let herself be put down on the ground and took his hand as she leapt out. "I've arranged for us both to fly at Darkling Dawn Weyr."
"You did what?!"
"Arranged for us to fly at Darkling Dawn Weyr."
"Why would you do that without asking if I would want that?"
"Because you wouldn't try it on your own. The rider is 22, blond, what more could you want?"
