ZER

HATCHING
The fourth hatching at Star City Dragonry was held in it's Hatching Bay 4. Zer followed the other candidates into the mossy room and waited. The eggs were shaking, but he still knew there was some time for him to think. Not that Zer liked to think, but their futures were at stake here.
Ever since Lorry had impressed here Ekesiyu she had been focusing less on getting back to their home planet and more on wreaking havoc to the ship with her jokes. She had changed... and Zer wasn't too happy about that. As a real hothead he could see the advantages of being backed up by a reasonably sized dragon, but Lorry didn't seem to be into mass destruction anymore. And what if the little sneaky creature got the need to pair? She would return here and then what?
There never came a reply to that question, not yet anyway. Zer heard sighs of expectation as the first egg crashed. A small light brown mutt fell out, his tail and legs seeming too short for his body and his face with the two stubby horns almost too comical for the expression they were wearing made Zer notice the dragon. The yellow stripes on his body almost made it seem like there were still some egg fluids left on his hide, but when the dragon approached him, Zer could see that they would remain there permanently.
The brown growled at the audience, mad for laughing at him. This only got him more laughter since his stubby little body couldn't make hard his threat. But Zer smiled a staisfactory smile, this dragon had spunk!
The brown next charged -stampeded if you will- to the waiting candidates, as if determined to crush anyone who didn't get out of his way. He didn't need humans. Zer understood perfectly well how he might feel. Humans had never been his favourites either, which might have been the understatement of the year.
Zer stepped right in front of the coming dragon.
"Get out of my way-- get out of my way! I'll kill you, if I have to! I'll..." the brown started.
Zer only smiled, his small razor sharp triangular teeth bright white in his face, the piranha smile that seemed to make so many of the humans uncomfortable.
"-- Oh! Uh, nice smile. Huh. Yeah. Yeah, you'll do. I'm Zoatch, and you'd better feed me, or else!" the brown said daring, though Zer didn't buy much of the tough-guy attitude. But what wasn't present could still come...
Before they could leave the hatching bay, they were stopped by the wolf-like archivist. Zer considered moving past her, but the female wolf didn't seem like the type that would get out of his way... and there were too many humans around to come to her aid. In stead he stared her down a bit and finally said what she had been waiting for.
"His name is Zoatch."

ADULT
"What shall we do today?" Zer asked his dragon as he looked out into the endless black of space with a bored look in his eye. Some people couldn't take the void out there, but then, none of those were Ytlip. The mind of and Ytlip is rather single-minded. We know it, They know it.
"Take over the universe?" Zoatch suggested pinpointing just the one thing the Ytlip had been interested in.
"Lorry told us not to draw attention to ourselves."
"Meh... Lorry this, Lorry that. I'm getting sick of her." Zoatch answered, lashing his tail.
"What do you suppose I'd do? Kill my commanding officer?"
"It HAS been done before." Zoatch said with a sly smile on his face.
"Yes and that's the reason why there is military justice."
"Ah yes... JAG as the earthlings call it."
"Yes, now go out of my head, I don't like you snooping around in there."
"What did you think a bond was? It's my treat for bonding a lower being."
"I'll show you who the lower being is!" Zer growled as he got up, and was immediately thrown back down by Zoatch' large claw, leaving a rather soar spot on his chest.
"What was that?"
Zer grumbled, but held his mouth.
"I'll take that as an apology. But I know what will make you realise who is the higher being."
"What?"
"I just got a splendid idea."
"I'm trembling with excitement." Zer said sarcastic.
"Well, it is." Zoatch replied with a smug look on his face, "I should chase. After all I am the strongest dragon around."
"What?"
You want to chase? Here?"
"Have you no sense at all? Lorry is here."
"I see you at least aren't dumb enough to go against her." Zer said.
"I'm not suicidal, but I know of a place..."
"Where?"
"Not so much where as the opportunity to chase more than one."
"You want them all for yourself?"
"That's the way you do it, isn't it?" Zoatch hinted innocently.
"The other way around, but I might be willing to change tactics for a while."
"Great, it is setlled then. We will leave in the morning to the ladies that await my charm."
Zer had enough sense not to laugh, but still made enough noise to earn him a whack on the head by the brown dragon with the temper.
